Quintain's P.O.V
I sighed as I took another lap around the city on my nightly patrol, even though my mind was far away from the late night city streets below me. I sighed yet again as I turned a corner to avoid crashing into one of the city's large skyscrapers when I began to pick up the sounds of someone yelling, someone whose voice I'd recognize no matter where I was.
"Oh don't you 'now Leelee' me you no good rat!" there was the sound of feet stomping and then the sound of a door being slammed open, "Get the hell out of my office, and stay the hell out of my life!"
I paused outside the familiar open window and looked into the small office that I'd sat in many, many times before. The sight of another man in that very same office had me pausing, and also had me gritting my teeth.
"You have my card if you change your mind Leelee," the strange man murmured as he stopped in the doorway, his eyes peering out of the shadows that surrounded him as they followed the movements of a, in my mind at least, gorgeous young red headed woman, "If that fiance of yours doesn't come to his senses just give me a call."
It gave me a great sense of satisfaction when she slammed the door behind him after he'd walked out. I watched with a broken heart as she then turned around, sliding down the door while looking at the window I was hovering near, and cried.
"Why," she finally whimpered out to the now empty room, "Why the fucking hell does the world insist on throwing these things in my face?!" she placed her forehead against her curled up knees, "I get it alright!" she screamed, "I'm not worthy of anyone's love, so can you leave me alone now?"
My eyes went wide as I heard her say those words, and I quickly rushed into the small stuffy room, "But that's where you're wrong Lena," I murmured as I scooped her up off the floor, "You're more than worthy."
As she looked up startled I couldn't help but smile gently down at her, this was the girl who occupied all of my thoughts, she owned my heart, and yet we were no longer together.
"Quinn," she hiccuped out the nickname she'd given me, making my heart give a hiccup of its own, "What are you-" I cut her off with a gentle finger pressed against her lips.
"Shshsh," I murmured as I sat in a nearby chair that had been turned around backwards, and held her close in my lap, "What happened Lena?" I asked gently while I cradled her against my chest, "You can tell me," I laid a gentle kiss on her forehead while I bent over to snuggle her.
"Put me down Quinn," she stated in a half hearted voice, "I just want to go home," after saying this I could feel her face cuddle against my chest, sending my heart sorring.
"Alright, then I'll take you home," I murmured as I nuzzled her hair, "I miss you Lena," I hadn't meant to say that out loud, and when she started sobbing again it broke my heart.
"Don't," she whispered softly, "Don't do this to me Quinn, you know why I left," I could hear her sniffle softly.
"I know," I murmured while gently nuzzling her hair again, "I know but I still miss you," I took a deep breath getting a small smell of the scent that is all hers, "But I also know that I miss getting to watch your face when something you get excited about happens, I miss watching you when you watch a romantic or sad movie," I smiled gently as I stood up to walk towards the window, "I miss carrying you during late night flights, and laughing with you and the guys as we sit down at the local pizzeria."
I felt her head rest gently against my shoulder, smiling when she pressed her nose into the crook of my neck, "I miss all of that too," she whispered hoarsely, "Well everything except the flights," her hands clung desperately to my power suit, "Can't we just walk back to the apartment?"
I chuckled softly and felt her slightly relax, "Don't worry," I murmured as my arms tightened around her, "I won't let you fall."
She grumbled slightly, which only caused me to chuckle again before snuggling her closer to my chest. "I really have missed you Quinn," she murmured, and slowly she began to fall asleep.
I couldn't stop the smile that came to my face, "I missed you too Lena," I murmured before taking flight out the window, "I missed you too," As we flew over the sleeping city all I could think about was the angel in my arms, "Don't worry Selene," I murmured softly, "I won't let them split us up again."
I was so focused on flying, and taking care of Selene that I didn't even notice when a group of people looked up and saw us. "Oh my god!" a high pitched female voice squealed, "It's him!"
Rolling my eyes I flew down low enough to talk to the woman and her friends, "Hey there ladies," I stated with a forced smile, "You all having a good night?"
"Sure are!" one of the women crowed, her speech slightly slurring to show that she'd been drinking quite a bit. Then her eyes squinted slightly, maybe she needed glasses, and she pointed at where Selene was still sleeping in my arms, "Hey don't I know her from somewhere?" she asked suddenly, drawing the others of the group's attention to my sleeping angel.
"Hey yeah," the girl who first screamed out stated, "That's the girl you dumped right?" her question, which had been aimed at me, through me for a loop, "If you dumped her why are you carrying her?"
The last two girls each face palmed, and this was when I realized they were the only sober ones. "Sorry about them," one of the girls stated while the other one started ushering the two drunken friends along, "They both got dumped by their boyfriends tonight and decided that drinking their problems was the best idea."
She blew out a breath and gave me a sheepish smile, "Don't let her go this time alright?" my eyes widened in shock, and for the first time I realised that I knew this woman, she was one of Selene's work colleagues. "I saw what she was like after she broke it off, it hurt her," she paused before reaching out to stroke a loose strand of Selene's red curls, a soft smile on her face, "She's like the little sister I actually wanted," now she turned teasing eyes on me, "So look after her hero," and then she was running off after her friends.
I started back towards Selene's place, but the woman's words kept playing in my head, 'Look after her hero,' closely followed, 'It hurt her,' it was then and there I made a vow, "No matter what," I murmured into Selene's hair, "From now on it's you and me Lena, no more running."
