Chapter 11

Star had only faught one wolf, but he had Zara to help him. He never collided one on one with another wolf, but right now all he was focusing on was protecting Nikita. The two wolves met head on, biting, snarling, barking. Axe gained the upper paw, grabbing Star's scruff and shook him violently.

Star snarled and planted his paws in the ground, grabbing Axe's right front leg and squeezed. Axe yelped and released his grip, allowing Star to escape. He dodged swiftly, his teeth bared. Star pounced, but Axe swiped his paw, smacking Star clean in his face.

The blow was so hard it made him hit the ground with a loud thud, making him dizzy. Axe grabbed his neck again, and clamped his jaws tight. Star yelped and squirmed, but Axe wouldn't let go.

His vision became dark, and his breathing got slower. He went limp in Axe's jaws, who dropped his corpse and chuckled. "You were never tough to begin with...how pathetic," He lifted his head and looked at Nikita, who stood there frozen.

She saw the broken body of her best friend and love of her life. "You...you killed him!" Axe snickered. "Don't be sad she-wolf, you'll be with him again momentarily..." He took a step towards her, his teeth bared. Nikita backed away, her eyes still on Star. Suddenly she saw movement, or was it... smoke?

Star's body began to twitch, he shifted and growled. Axe stopped and faced him again, his eyes wide. Star was getting back to his feet, his eyes were closed, and you could hear his enraged snarling. He lifted his head and opened his eyes, Nikita yelped in awe. Star's eye sockets were full of flames, and his mouth also had fire within it. His body was still smoking, his tail and paws were covered in fire.

Axe looked terrified. "How..." Star looked at Nikita, then back at Axe. He opened his mouth and roared. The sound was eerie and horrifying. He pounced, knocking Axe over and pinned him down.

Axe tried to get up, but the heat from Star's body stopped him from doing so. "No! Plea--" it was too late. Star opened his mouth and grabbed Axe's head. He tore his head away from his body, and it turned to ash. Axe's headless body also broke into flames.

Star lifted his head and let out an deep dark earsplitting howl. His body returned to normal immediately, he lowered his head and breathed heavily, his muscles twitching.

Nikita just stood there, She didn't know what to feel or what to say. What was that she just witnessed? Was that really the Star she fell in love with? Did he know he had such power? Star look at her, looking the same way she did: shocked and confused.

"Nikita, are you okay?" he asked, his eyes soft. She nodded but didn't move. "What was that?" "I-I don't know. I never knew I could do that, I swear. I'm scared. Am-am I really a monster?"

Nikita moved quickly and buried her face in his neck. "Don't you dare say such a thing! You saved my life, do you know what that means? It means that you aren't a monster, but a savior and protector,"

She whined and sobbed. " I've missed you so much Star...I thought I wasn't going to see you again. I had to break out to find you...I still can't believe it's you. I don't want to be separated from you ever again. I love you, so so much," She buried her face deeper into his neck. She felt his paw hugging her back gently as he nuzzled her softly.

"I love you too Nikita...you belong with me, you are my everything..." Something within him sparked by her touch, as if their bond was forged with an invisible rope.

"Star! Are you okay?!" Zara came rushing over to them. "I heard a roar and a howl! What happened? Are you hurt?" Nikita looked at her confused. "Who are you?" Zara cleared her throat and answered her. "Sorry, I'm Zara, Star's half-sister. I know it's confusing but I'll explain later. Right now I need to make sure you're both okay,"

Star nodded. "I...I don't know honestly," Zara looked at him, then at the body of Axe...well what was left on him. "Did you do that?" "Um....yeah I did," "What do you remember?" "All I can remember is getting knocked out, and then I felt heat call over my body...then it was like I snapped awake," Zara turned to Nikita, who made it more easier to understand. "His body turned to smoke, his eyes, mouth, paws and tail all turned into flames,"

Zara didn't look shocked, almost as if she knew. "That means you got your power," Star looked puzzled. "My....power?" "Yes, let me explain. Dad wasn't just any dire wolf, he had powers. He had the power to produce smoke, it made him stronger, but also dangerous.

Since I have powers, I would've assumed that you did too. However, only the Spirit-Wolves give you your powers if you deserve to have it. Those who don't deserve it, remain the same. But they're are some out there that used their powers for nasty, evil things. In the end, they got their power taken away, and it was never given back,"

Star looked confused. Their father had powers? Why didn't Dagger tell him anything about this? I guess he was just trying to protect me..."Star, you should only use it unless you have to. If you give in too much, you'll either lose it or worse, it'll consume your soul and body...and you'll be gone. Your power is rare and deadly, please don't push it,"

"What if I didn't want this to begin with? Huh? What if I just wanted to be normal? Why would the Spirit-Wolves grant me with such a power?" Star growled through his teeth.

Though deep down, he knew he had to be special, but to be a very powerful wolf was out of his league. "Because they know you're a good wolf with a greater heart. You put other's before yourself, which would make you an ideal alpha some day,"

"Everyone keeps telling me that, but...what if I don't make a good alpha? Because of this power, I'm afraid I'll hurt the one's I care about. I don't think I can do this," "Star...Zara is right, you'd make a great alpha," Nikita answered, her voice soft and gentle. She nuzzled his cheek affectionately, growling softly. "Powers or not, you're still the same wolf I fell in love with. Nothing you do will ever hurt me, that I know for sure,"

"Listen to your mate little brother, as long as you keep your loved ones on your mind, you'll be able to control it. But promise me you'll only use it for good. I can't lose you, not yet. Promise me..." Star met her eyes, they were innocent and hopeful. "I promise sis, I won't let you down," "You! Hand me the traitor now!"

The young wolves jumped and faced the speaker. Slash was standing a few feet away, with half the pack behind him. They were snarling and growling, drool stringing from their trembling muzzles. "I've had enough of you! All of you! Why hasn't Beta killed you yet traitor?!" "Maybe because I'm the one who killed him..." Star replied coldly. He wasn't in the mood for this. He took a step forward, his eyes locked on the Mad Alpha.

"You? Please, as if! Where is my beta?!" Slash snarled, stepped forward as well. Star nodded his head at what was left of Axe. Slash's face twisted in anger, and he snarled. "I'll kill you!" He pounced, but Zara got to him first. She pinned Slash down by his neck, his jaws snapping at her. Star stepped in, grabbing Slash's neck. Zara turned to Slash's pack, who were standing there doing nothing.

"Even your pack has given up on you Slash. You've had them under your paw for too long, and now they'll be free if you," Star tightened his grip on Slash's neck, feeling the taste of blood on his tongue.

"Wait!" A wolf yelled stepping forward. He looked young, around Star's age. Unlike the others, he was sleek black with diamond colored eyes.

"Let me do it, he's made me suffer enough," Zara studied him coldly. "And you are?" "I am Draco, I mean no harm," he lowered his head and kept his eyes fixed on them. "Star...what do you think?" He acknowledged her with a flick of an ear. She nodded, turning back to the young male, nodding her head for him to come forward.

He did just that, going to Stars side. "Don't make me regret it..." He said through a mouthful of fur. Drago nodded, clamping his jaws around Slash's neck, who wasn't even phased. "This is for my mother..." Draco growled, then in a shift motion, blood and tissue came free in his mouth, he dropped the lump of flesh, and growled. Slash's paws twitched and jerked, and a horrid gurgling sound came from the gaping hole in his neck.

Star turned his attention to Slash's pack, who were already turning tails and running. "They deserve better, let them go," Nikita says padding forward, looking at the bleeding body of her father. Her face showed no sadness, no pain. Her face was blank. "You're not upset?" Star asked. "No, he wasn't my father the moment he got that sickness. I hope the Spirit-Wolves punish him for what he's done,"

"Well now that he's dead, I suppose we should take his head back to Lightblood?" Zara asked leaning down and removed Slash's head from his body, leaving a bloody mess. "I suppose we should, we have no more enemies for now," Star answers, looking at Draco.

"Would you like to tag along with us?" He asked, all hostility gone. "Oh, um...sure. I could use some friends," He looked at them, Nikita first. "I know you're Nikita...then you're Star...and finally, Zara was it?" She nodded. "I'm willing to earn your trust, I won't let you guys down, you have my word," Star nodded. "I believe you. Now come on, let's get going,"
