Jake walked ahead of the small group, leading them along like a teacher of a preschooler class. Not paying any mind to the mixed looks that they were getting, he led them to a sushi bar. That had a roller style delivery system. The six of them took their seats and waited for the sushi of their choosing to arrive. As they started to grab what they wanted with chopsticks.
"You know, I thought our sushi place back home was good. This is soo much better." Jeud would say with a mouthful of sushi.
"Slow down Jeud we don't need you choking on raw fish now." Zeke would chuckle taking a sip of water. To wash down the mouthful of fish he himself had consumed.
Lazinal would watch the others silently. Not paying attention to the words that they were speaking, instead. His focus was more on the world around them. Since they were regularly hunted down. It was good to keep an eye, or an ear out in case for dangers.
Vitra would smile at the group, sitting there not really knowing what to do with the food moving before her and around her. Realizing this, Jake would grab her some food off of the conveyor belt and placed it on her dish before her.
"How does this work exactly?" She would ask before grabbing a piece of sashimi between her fingers and popping it into her mouth. "I'm still learning about the people of this time, and the amount of cultures that there are, is truly mind moggling."
Smiling at her words. Jake would rub the back of his neck. "There is no rush to learn about another culture, if anything take your time. Having waked you recently from your long slumber. It is understandable that you have no idea what's going on." He would say.
"And the food?"
"Oh right, that. Here in Japan you should use your chopsticks to eat your food. And also, once you learn how to use them. Is rather easy." Jake would explain showing her how the chopsticks work within his hand. He didn't hold them in the middle or towards the front, instead he was holding them at their ends. Almost as if he had been doing so for years.
Vitra would frown staring at how Jake was holding them. Looking at the chopsticks that rested next to her would pick them up, and notice that they were together. "I think mine are broken." She would mutter trying to figure them out in her mind. For Vitra when she had originally been walking the world. There were no such things as cars or even chopsticks.
They only had steal and leather. Along with a rather archaic form of magic.
"They aren't broken. They are made put together so you have to pull them apart in order to use them." Jake would say taking it from her hands and pulling them apart. "Like this."
Vitra's eyes would wonder at it, as amazement formed in her eyes. Before taking them into her hand observing them. "Modern people truly do know their own forms of magic" She would say not believing what she had seen.
"You truly have seen noting yet Vitra. Trust me, humanity has advanced a lot farther in a hundred years than they have in the last thousand. The chopsticks are just the tip of the iceberg." Salem would say drinking out of a small simply made pottery glass.
"I've been free for the last ten years. What more haven't I seen yet?" Vetra would ask stabbing a piece of sushi with a single chop stick, and popping it into her mouth.
"Well first of all. You know none of the history of mankind. Which depending on where we are knowing is half the battle." Lazinal would chime in having sensed no danger in the area. "And technology as you've experienced lately is continuing advance even to this day. With every year comes something new and unexpected. But not really much in the making life better department, but more in the vanity department."
"Vanity?" Vetra would sputter hearing a word she still had yet to learn. "What does that word mean?"
"Have you not been using Duolingo like you're supposed to?" Zeke would ask from the far side of the group. "You know that bird is evil if you miss a single day right?"
Biting her lip. Vetra would look away embarrassed. Which showed just how much she hadn't been using the app recently.
"How long has it been since you used the app?" Jake would ask leaning on his hand with a small smile on his face. And a look in his eyes that showed just how much his inner teacher was beginning to bleed out.
The man may look like he could be a university teacher. But he truly at one point had aspirations to be a teacher.
"A few....weeks" she would admit earning a look from Jake. Almost as if she had handed him the keys to a massive mansion.
"A few weeks you say? Well looks like I have to break out the dictionary again. We left off at the beginning of the C letters right?" He would say earning a look of dread from the woman.
"And I thought highschool was torture..." Zeke would shutter hearing the words Jake spoke. "You really can torture people Jake."
"I thought the geneva convention made torture illegal" Jeud would question seeing the look of amusement Jake seemed to get from it.
"He isn't trying to torture her guys. He's just trying to make sure she learns at least the bate minimum she needs to know to pass off as a human in the modern age." Salem would sigh looking to Jake. "But seriously you take too much enjoyment torturing her with knowledge."
"Who said that it was torture?" Jake would question materializing a English dictionary into his hand earning a gasp of surprise from a couple walking past them.
Jake would then chuckle nervously before looking to them. Speaking in flawless Japanese. "It's just a magic trick!"
Earning a confused scowl from the rest of them. And then a look of outrage from Jeud.
"You learned Japanese through osmosis?! You promised you'd learn it on Duolingo with me!"
"Sorry, sorry. But it was from necessity. But I'd happily teach you" Jake would say.
"Oh hell no. I am not being chained to a desk being forced to learn Japanese for twelve hours. I'd rather just binge the entirety of One Piece instead" Jeud would say puffing out her cheeks.
"I think it's time for us to call it a night and get some actual sleep. And make a plan for the future once again." Salem would say reaching into his pocket and pulling out enough Yen to pay for their shared meal.
