Rest

Leaving the Sushi place. The group would make their way back to their new base of operations. And Jake pulling up the rear with a dictionary still in his hand.

Arriving at their temporarily base of operations. The group split up to go about their own business. Leaving Vitra and Jake alone.

Walking into their shared room.

"What's on your mind Jake?" She found herself asking. Noticing the subtle queues he had whenever something bothered him. One of them being the obvious twitch of flicking the air.

"I don't like how close we got to biting the dust." Jake would sigh rubbing his face, as the exhaustion he felt made itself seen. "I'm worried that I'm leading everyone to their deaths"

It was something he had the right to worry about. Being the leader of their kind. Having this forced upon him at such a young age. And yet, he was still there with them every step of the way. Which she could tell that the others really did appreciate.

"We did get pretty close to truly being cornered back in the states..." She would say remembering when only a few hours before, they had been chased by a large amount of Angels. Before they could make it to their leyline to make a quick get away.

If it weren't for Jake's quick thinking. There was no telling how many of them would have actually made it out of there alive. It was hard to imagine that, without pain filling Vitra's chest as she imagined the man she loved. Broken down by his failure. By making the wrong choice that led to those he cared about dying. There would be no consoling him then. A part of her feared that if it did happen, he would just offer his life up to the nearest angel, and let them take his.

"You need to stop overthinking Vitra." Jake would say cutting her spiraling thoughts off at the roots. Causing her to look up sheepishly.

"Right sorry...I guess with everything going on it is hard to just be calm about everything." She would admit. "How do you do it?"

"Because I have all of you by my side. I care about all of you as a family, and as a species. If none of you were with me, I would probably be subject to a very tight straight jacket." He would chuckle sitting at the end of the bed rubbing his hands over his face. "I just wish that we could live in peace, and not have to worry about the angels wanting to snuff us out. Is that so hard to ask?"

"Many of the angels from my time are still around in yours. If they continue to live with their conservative views, and their views on what should be done with us not willing to change, then we have no chance of living a peaceful life. Until there is a change forced upon them." Vitra would say as she sat next to him. Placing a gentle hand on his left thigh.

"Their view will never change if we keep proving to be one of three major threats that the angels have. Not even many of the old gods have anything that they can do against the powers that many of the angels have now. I mean when I first saw Gabriel fight. He had created a super storm around the battle field itself. Which I don't think any of us are capable of doing just flexing off our powers." Jake would say. Mentioning a very good point. Many of the angels, especially of the seven angel lords. They were known for their godlike capabilities. Especially their abilities to do things to control the veil.

And of the major threats that the angels truly faced were three simple factions. Demons, Deaths, and the Seraphim. Demons were the denizens of hell who ruled in the land of brimstone with an iron fist. And whenever they made their way onto the land of the living. It became a open territorial conflict between the Demons and Angels.

The Deaths, that was what Jake and his crew were. They were a race screwed over by the angels over eleven-thousand years ago. And as a result of that, most of their kind have been hunted to near extinction with a small number of them still breathing. Just fighting to survive to live another day. The only problem with that was, the number of places they could freely hide was quickly dwindling. With their only saving grace being places like Japan, which still had their guardian deities who were highly territorial. And didn't allow a single angel to pass through their border, if they meant to cause any harm to whoever resides within the borders.

The only thing that the Deaths had to truly worry about here. Were the different breed of demon that resided in Japan. The Yokai. Which were strictly signified by being a strange apparition, but many of them were known for how dangerous they truly could be.

The final threat that the angels truly faced were the Seraphim. A offspring of an Angel and a Demon, or rarely a mix with human added to it. Were known to be some of the most powerful creatures in existence, and almost all Seraphim that had been born had all turned their backs against the silver city. And often made up the higher echelon of Angel hunting communities, for their vast knowledge and power that they held. Given that they had the ability to give their powers to other individuals to make them strong enough to do what they must.

"We are only a threat because we do what we must to survive." Vitra would say gently squeezing Jake's thigh leaning against his shoulder. "And we have to continue to fight for every inch."

Taking a deep breath in. Jake would breathe in the warm scent of Vitra. The soft smell of Lilac and Vanilla swirling together. Calmed him, and brought him to ease. As he wrapped a arm around her listening to the words that she spoke. Words that held a truth to them.

They had to fight for every single inch. Or else they wouldn't have the right to exist in this world.
