The Suit

When I finally came too I was in this black room on a hospital bed with weird needles and Exacto knives attached to robotic arms. My whole body was in pain now, but I was able to move my head again so I looked around at my surroundings. There was a giant 1-way mirror ( or so I assumed) straight in front of me and a heavy-duty steel door that looked like it could take an atomic blast head-on. I looked to my right but it was so dark that I couldn't see, the same with my left side too. I looked behind me but it was just the wall with that weird manufacturing robot that looks like it was repurposed for hospitals or to dissect aliens.

I tried to move my body to sit myself up and to my surprise, I was able to move again. I felt stronger though like I was able to lift a house, I sat myself up using the bars on the side of the bed. I looked down at my hands to make sure I had all my fingers still, but the first thing I noticed was that where I had grabbed the bar to lift myself up was bend down and crushed. I just bend the bar, a steel bar I thought to myself. I looked at my hands and I saw stitches going all the way up to my bicep and the same thing was on my left arm too. I was curious so I looked at my legs as well, the stitches started at my feet and came all the way to my hip.

I had so many questions and was worried about Ashley, "where was she and where am I? What's up with my body and these stitches?" I wanted answers so I sat straight up on the bed and turned scooted towards the foot of the bed so I could stand up. Just as I was about to stand up the steel door made a weird beeping noise then slowly started to open flooding the room with light from the other side. When the door was open just enough a doctor walked in. She was wearing a long white lab coat that went to her knees, skinny jeans and a Jurrasic Planet shirt. She had brown hair that was in a messy bun, with white converse. "Hi my name is Dr.Carol nice to meet you…" she said as she looked down at the clipboard she was holding. " Travis! Nice to meet you Travis" she said. "I am sure you have a lot of questions and those will be answered soon enough, but first we need to make sure you made it through augmentation without any problems." Augmentation? I thought. She had me stand up and walk around, move my hands and arms, turn my head left and right. She then had me put on a military issue uniform, as I got dressed she explained that if I hadn't gone through the augmentation I would not be alive.

When the explosion went off it had torn my body to shreds and broke my ribs puncturing a lung, along with internal bleeding I was lucky to just be alive. She told me that when they brought me here they put Ashley in one of the spare bedrooms for her to stay so she could be with me. Dr. Carol took me to this weird room full of these suits of armor and told me to pick one. I looked at all of the suits but I didn't like any of them. "Doctor, do you have any more suits we could look at?" I asked. Who knew that I would ever be shopping for a suit of armor that looks like it's from a movie. The doc thought for a second then her face lit up. "Actually I do and I believe you will take a liking to it," she said. "Follow me", and so I walked through a maze of hallways until we got to another door that looked the first one. A heavy-duty steel blast door the doc called it, she swiped a card and scanned her handprint along with her eye.

Whatever was behind this door she didn't want anybody to see, and I don't blame her when I walked through the door. The suit was the coolest thing I have ever seen. The whole suit was dark green with hints of black on it, the helmet was the same color but the visor was polarized with a little hexagon design on it. The top had a bill on it like a hat but shorter, it only blocked the visor piece. "How about this one?" asked Dr. carol. "It is amazing," I said, holding \back all the excitement in my voice. " It's all yours then. But I have to warn you that once you put the armor on you can't come out of it until you die or until you retire," she said. "I am ok with that, can we paint it all black though?" I asked. "Sure I don't see why not," said the doc. She took me back to the room where me and Ashley are staying for right now, as soon as I opened the door I was tackled by her. I was so glad that she was ok and smiling again.

That night she told me about everything that happened and that there was nothing left of my house, that Iran has taken over the U.S. and how the military found us and saw that I was gonna die without medical treatment. They took us to some secret military base and put her in the room and took me somewhere else. She told me how I am the only super-soldier they will ever make and how it was only possible because my body was compatible with the suits. The next morning we got up and went to breakfast in the mess hall. As soon as I walked in everyone in there stopped what they were doing and stared at me. The whole mess hall was quiet as we walked to the line and grabbed our trays. There was so much to get from pancakes to cereal, omelets to french toast, you name it they had it. We got what we wanted and started to look for somewhere to sit. Everyone was just watching us the whole time, we soon found a table that was empty so we went and sat down to eat. Before I could take a bite of my food the doctor comes over the intercom, "Travis please report to the mechanics room. Lieutenant, please report to the mechanics room."

By the time I got there my stomach was growling, I didn't get to eat before I got called. When I opened the door it was standing in the middle of the room, all black with the exception of the visor that was polarized. Then I noticed when I got closer that it was taken apart and that multiple cranes were holding up the plates. "As I told you yesterday, once you put it on it is not coming off. Are you sure you want this one?" asked the doc. "I am positive," I told her. "Ok then step into the boots, and spread your arms out to the side like a T."said the doc. As soon as I put my feet in and put my arms out a dozen little robotic arms on wheels came out of somewhere and tightened the boots to my feet. The cranes then moved all the other pieces onto my body and the drills tightened them too. Once all the body armor was on the doc told me to put on the helmet so I slowly reached over and grabbed the helmet. As soon as I put it on everything came to life, the vision lit up and focused then at the top left of my visor it shows a picture of me and all my vital signs. On the top right, it shows who I am talking to over the radio plus a minimap under it looks like a GPS. As I was taking all the amazement the helmet shrunk to fit my head and the bottom to wrap around my neck armor, so my whole body had armor. The neck was more of a dry fit type like the joints so this way I could move but it was still as strong as the rest of the armor.

"How does it feel LT",asked the doc. "It feels great, kind of like I am just wearing normal clothes," I said. She told me that my suit was so heavy that normal people get crushed if they try to use it. Once she did all of her checks and I ran a system check I was allowed to go back and eat breakfast. I walked back into the mess hall and this time everyone stood up and saluted me and gave me a round of applause. Once it died down I went to where Ashley and me were sitting but she wasn't there. All that was left was a note that said "good bye LT. I am sorry but I must go, I can't stand by as you go out and fight while I stay here hoping you come back home to me. I am sorry Travis but this is the end of us." About the same time I finished reading the note Sirens started to go off in the building. The doc came over the radio connected to my helmet "LT. report to the flight deck, you are being deployed. good luck soldier."
