A Scene Of Bloodshed

I frantically started searching my pockets for the crystals but they were nowhere to be found. I then had an idea "Inventory?" I said sheepishly as I didn't know if it would work. Suddenly another blue screen popped up in my vision, it was filled with boxes like a grid. There were 50 boxes all together in a 5x10 square three of which had things in them, in the first was a book named simply 'Manual', in the second was a wooden club, and the third was the crystals. The crystals stacked up to 64 and were labelled as 'Common Evolutionary Material'. I tried grabbing the wooden club to see if it would work and my hand suddenly vanished as it touched the screen. I thought about the wooden club and it materialised out of thin air, 'So cool' I thought to myself as I swung the bat around I then had another idea I looked at the bat and said "Examine". A small yellow window popped up.

"Wow, I can't believe this is actually happening!" I exclaimed out loud while pumping my fist into the air. I then snapped out of my stupor, put my switchblade into my inventory and continued on towards my house, bat in hand.

I didn't run into anymore zombies whilst I cautiously made my way back to the house. I walked towards the front door as I knew that the back was locked up, what I saw stopped me dead in my tracks. As I went to grab the door handle a noticed a blood-stained hand print on the door frame, I opened the door bat in hand and rushed inside.

The bottom floor was completely empty but I could hear banging and moaning coming from upstairs. I ran up the stairs and went straight for my sister's room, as I turned the corner I saw three zombies banging on the door to my father's room. I ran straight at them without a second thought, I swung my bat at the closest one and he fell to the floor in a bloody mess, a brisk note played in my ear two times but I ignored it as my noisy arrival had attracted the attention of the other two zombies. They both lunged at me, I swung wildly at the one in the left and his head hit the wall next to him, obliterating his skull. As I tried to swing for the third one I lost my balance and tripped on the rug, I tried to get up quickly but the third one dived on top of me. I stuck the bat in between its gnashing teeth and struggled to heave it off of me, I had a sudden idea. I freed my hand from the bat and reached out to my side I thought of the knife in my inventory and willed it into my hand. I felt the cold steel of the handle in my hand and thrust the tip of the blade into the monster's skull, through the temple and into the brain killing it dead.

Four more notifications rang I'm my ear as I sat panting on the floor in a pool of the blood of those I defeated I ignored them as I remembered my sister. If the zombies were banging on my father's door then there must be someone in there, I hoped with all my might that it was my sister safe and sound. I knocked on the door but got no answer, I tried to turn the handle but it was locked. With no other alternative I took a step back and booted the door down. The scene on the other side of the door was not what I had hoped for, it was like that of a horror movie.

My father lay on the bed facedown, his once white sheets now dyed red with his blood. His head was blown up the wall in chunks, a shotgun lay crooked in his hands, a note was laid upon his pillow. I didn't quite know how to feel about the scene of bloodshed layed out in front of me, me and my father had been growing apart fo years but I didn't wish him to die. I walked over to the corpse and picked up the note laid upon the pillow it read,

'Dear Zeke, I hope you find this note before your sister does, I don't want her to see me like this. After you left this morning a meteor suddenly appeared then disappeared in the sky and me and your sister fainted. After we awoke I saw Mr Jefferson knocking on the patio window covered in blood. I quickly opened the front door to let him in but he attacked me. I shouted for your sister to run and hide, I hope she did. There were two more of those things at the top of the stairs, I had no idea how they got there. They bit me on my shoulder. I've watched enough zombie movies to know what comes next so I'm leaving your sister in your care, please keep her safe. I know I have no right to ask this of you, but I have a final request. I've written your mother's address on the back of this note, I want you to find her and tell her I love her and I'm sorry for what I've done. Goodbye my son, stay safe.'

Tears streamed down my face. There was a creak in the floorboards behind me so I turned around knife in hand ready to kill. My sister stood in the doorway shaking in horror. I quickly rushed to her and embraced her, pulling her head close to my chest so she couldn't see the scene laid out before us. She started to sob uncontrollably into my chest, and surprisingly I joined her in her tears.

My father may have been a drunk, he may have been a gambling addict, he may have been a failure: but he was still my dad.

I would never wish death to my own father, no matter how disappointing he was, never.
