What You Need to Know Part 2

DISCLAIMER:

The guide serves to answer some of the questions as the story progresses and will not be that comprehensive as to discuss stuff that are not integral to the plot (so no comprehensive discussion of races, the other continents, and the other realms yet). Part 2 seeks to explain and expand further stuff from Chapters 9-13.

Wyverns

-Known also as false dragons. While dragons are sentient four-legged beings with the ability to fly and manipulate elements, the wyverns are two-legged reptile like beings which can only glide, and are more similar to reptiles. Wyverns came to be during the Great Dragon War, wherein Dragons created them as footsoldiers to fill the former's ranks given that Dragonslayers are slowly turning the tide of battle. They are fiercely loyal to dragons. However, the death of the dragon commanding them instantly turns these vicious creatures to nothing more than fanged animals, scampering immediately at the sight of danger. Nowadays, wyverns are found almost everywhere where their food, other wildlife, is abundant, with most of them preferring to build their nests far away from the other races.

Dragonoids

-Pertains to the human-like form that some dragons can take. Only dragons with a high affinity and proficiency can take such form. In fact, those from the royal lineage are known to have the ability to take almost human-like forms. Under this form, the dragon's scales partake the appearance of armor. The form is achieved by manipulation of elements and not the performance of magic, and as such can be maintained for as long as its user wants.

The Exiled

-A group consisting of those from the House of Flaur and its sympathizers. The members of the group were banished from the kingdom of Threanas almost a century ago. Members of the group were branded with the runic symbol for "Exile" and was denied shelter and protection by many kingdoms thereafter. They are mostly nomads who wander from place to place. While many decades had passed ever since their exile, it had become tradition among its members to brand the new generation with the same rune upon the young ones' coming of age. They treat the symbol on their foreheads as an everlasting reminder of the usurpation of the Glacias and the group's vow to take revenge on the Glacia bloodline.

-High-ranking and senior members of the group have also taken the tradition of covering their whole bodies, except their faces, with runes for various curses. No one knows how its members learned of such runes but given the Flaurs' affinity for magic, it is not a wonder that most of them can perform magic. The group had recently allied itself with the Midnight Council. However, rogue members who disapprove the plan of the Council have decided to take action and claim vengeance on the Glacias

The Midnight Council

-A group consisting of powerful and influential persons in Threanas. They plan to take the crown from King Deanor and install a new ruler. However, unlike The Exiled, the Council believes in minimizing the number of casualties and is open to having Auria rule over in case they deem her competent enough. Such idea caused a rift between the Council and The Exiled, prompting some of the members of the latter to go rogue. No one knows the exact identities of its members. While some treat of the group's existence as mere rumors, the recent activity of The Exiled had led many to believe that the Council had started making its move as well.

Sylph / Nymph / Faerie

-Denizens of the White (Light) realm, it is unknown how they exactly came to be considering that legends tell that the Lord of Light only created three races, the angels, the elves, and the dragons. Similar to angels, these beings are made of pure light. However, the race can manifest corporeal forms, unlike angels who must obtain a vessel for their ethereal forms when traveling to the other realms. The race is known for being adept in healing, manipulation of elements, and performing magic. There are only few accounts of encounters with the creatures, but all tend to point out that they are very fickle and meddlesome in the affairs of the other races, especially those they are fond of.

Dragonslayer

-Pertains to both the title given to one who slew a dragon and to a weapon used in slaying a dragon. While overpowering a dragon through magic or strength is not uncommon, the use of a Dragonslayer guarantees a high chance of killing one immediately. The dragonslaying spears became prevalent during the Great Dragon War wherein both elves and humans banded together to end the reign of the dragons over Elderone. Considering that the dwarves had newly migrated to Elderone back then, most Dragonslayers are spears forged by humans and on which dragon's blood was woven into by the elves. Dragon's blood imbued the spear with unnatural lightness and strength. However, in order to tap to the weapon's full potential, runes were engraved on it, allowing its user to perform magic that temporarily grants the wielder a fraction of the power of the dragons.

-Using a Dragonslayer is no easy feat though. The runes engraved on it must first be activated by casting the spell put on the weapon itself. Such task requires minutes, sometimes even hours, of chanting with one or two mages or persons skilled in magic doing it. Further, the wielder must continuously supply and manipulate mana to a certain degree as the weapon is used. As such, a common tactic during the war was for knights to hold off the dragon as much as possible until the Dragonslayer is ready to be used. Nowadays, Dragonslayers are relegated to being mere symbols of power, after the kingdoms entered into a peace treaty with the dragons, prohibiting the use and forging of Dragonslayers except under dire circumstances. Along with the weapon, the title itself had lost its significance considering that most dragons now live far away from the other races.
