The Legion of Heroes meant that when the General went on an expedition, he would order a group of sub-heroes to help lead the soldiers. More units would need more leaders.
For example, if the hero brought two types of soldiers, a Pikeman and a Bowman, and the General appointed a sub-hero to lead a Pikemen unit, then the Legion of Heroes was formed. Of course, a sub-hero could be appointed to lead the Bowmen too. The General could bring as many sub-heroes as there were Tactical Positions.
The value of a hero was to add Strategy Attack and Defense attributes to the whole army. The army would stack Attack and Defense based on the hero's Attack and Defense attributes. When there was more than one hero in the team, the one with the highest Strategy Attack and Defense would be used.
For example, if the General's Strategy Attack and Defense were higher than that of all the sub-heroes, the entire army's Attack and Defense would be calculated based on the General's. Similarly, when the Skill Level of the hero was higher than that of all sub-heroes, the Skill of the hero would prevail. Of course, the personal Attack and Defense of the sub-hero would still be stacked with that of the General's.
If a certain attribute of the sub-hero, such as Defense, was higher than the General's, the Defense of the troops led by the sub-hero was subjected to the sub-hero's attributes instead. That meant, the Attack, Defense, and Skill of the sub-hero would only affect the unit under his command.
Therefore, the whole point of forming a legion was to have sub-heroes whose abilities complemented that of the hero. Of course, a warrior-type hero with high Attack and Defense should recruit a magic-type sub-hero. Magic-type heroes with very low Attack and Defense should also recruit warrior-type sub-heroes with high Attack and Defense.
At the same time, players could also appoint a sub-hero with outstanding Attack and Defense as the General. In this case, the boost on the army's Attack, Defense, and Skills would mainly be based on the sub-hero who was the General. In this way, the magic-type players would only need to focus on training one sub-hero with high Attack and Defense. In fact, all magic-type players would appoint their sub-heroes as Generals.
Another important aspect of the sub-hero was that their Command Power could be directly stacked with that of the hero. That meant, the greater its value, the more units they could bring with them.
So, even if a player encountered NPC sub-heroes in the tavern whose attributes and Skills were useless but had very high Command Power, they would still find it worthwhile to train him! After all, soldiers were the key to a kingdom!
When it came to NPC heroes in the tavern, it must be mentioned that the important thing was that players could not form a Legion of Heroes between themselves. Otherwise, if two people had a good relationship and they both joined forces, one strong in Attack, one strong in Defense, how would the game developer earn? Players could only form teams. Each would have their own units, but everyone shared EXP and equipment and could complete quests together.
So the sub-hero could only be an NPC!
The sub-hero was just like a rare character in an ordinary online game! Thousands of troops were easy to obtain, but one good General was rare. A sub-hero was also hard to recruit. There were certain requirements on the player's Reputation and money. Even a trashy sub-hero could increase the number of units a player could bring! Of course, the sub-hero also took a share of the EXP, so recruiting sub-heroes required particular knowledge.
Getting the best sub-hero, not to mention a pretty one, was something all players would strive for!
The sub-heroes were divided into Ordinary Heroes, Epic Heroes, and Legendary Heroes. Ordinary Heroes were Level 1 to 20 NPCs that the System spawned in the Main City Tavern every once in a while. Among them, there were many with extraordinary special abilities and there was a low chance of some with godly special abilities. These NPC heroes had no past and no background. They were only there for one purpose.
As for the Epic heroes, they had their own stories and legends in the Hero Continent. Once they appeared, they would have high ranks and even industries. It was extremely difficult for players to recruit them as sub-heroes. Of course, the specialties of Epic Heroes were sometimes ordinary. Their value was in their high rank and related kingdom background.
Then, there was the Legendary Hero. This hero had supernatural special abilities and was extremely powerful. He was usually a famous General or a Lord. Heroes of this grade were almost impossible to recruit, but players could have them as temporary sub-heroes by doing quests. This was the case with Da Fei.
Looking at the various buff effects on himself, Da Fei could already imagine how much his Attack and Defense had been boosted!
Da Fei expanded his attribute bar panel, and even though he was prepared, he was stunned!
—Attack: 60, Defense: 63, Damage: 7-9, Attack Speed: 12, Movement Speed: 12, Health: 40, Morale: 6, Luck: 5.
Wow! These Attack and Defense attributes were overwhelming for a beginner! Da Fei's basic attributes were:
—Attack: 9, Defense: 3 (Personal Defense: 3), Damage: 5-7, Attack Speed: 10, Movement Speed: 10, Health: 38, Morale: 1, Luck: 0.
That meant Renoir had 60 Attack and 60 Defense! (The general's Attack and Defense would still stack on the hero's Attack and Defense)
Then, there was still the Grandmaster-level Attack Skill! Grandmaster-level Defense Skill! Master-level Command Skill! Master-level Luck Skill! This was amazing! Although it was unknown what type of hero he was, he was nevertheless one of the historical heroes within the game. He had to be at least an Epic Hero!
With 60 Attack stacked on, Da Fei's Damage of 7-9 increased by 300%, which made it 28-36! His Master-level Attack Skill further increased his Attack by 60%, making the final Damage 44-57!
He had been instantly upgraded to the basic level of an Angel! The bad had been turned into something great! How terrifying would the Angel with 50 Basic Damage and 30 Attack be in his hands? He always thought that the damage of the Master-level Ballista was already impressive. However, in the latter part of the game, the Ballista's 600 Health was insufficient! Of course, in Legion mode, Da Fei's Ballista damage was still only Da Fei's personal Skill attribute and would not be affected by the attributes of the hero. Otherwise, it would be terrifying if each sub-hero had a Ballista.
However, such a powerful hero actually lost to Markal. Just what was Markal? His Epic mission was to fight him? Are you kidding?
Da Fei asked in shock, "Captain, how strong is Duke Makarl?"
Like the flame of a candle in the wind, the flames in the Skeleton's eyes suddenly wavered. "In the Undead World, his name exists like a curse. As an Undead, I dare not even utter his name, in fear of becoming his slave!"
Da Fei was shocked. "So what is he? A Death God?"
The Skeleton said grimly, "Only below the Death God, above all Undead!"
Da Fei was shocked. "Death Lord!" The special ability of the Death Lord was the same as the character, which was valued at 10 million US Dollars!
The Skeleton nodded. "Yes! He's a Death Lord! A living Death Lord! It seems that you know of him?"
Da Fei hurriedly took out the diary of Seafarer Juan to show him. "I found this in Juan Sebastian's belongings! He was the only living person who escaped on the day of the incident. He did not become a zombie! He recorded everything that happened that day!"
The flame in the eyes of the skeleton flickered wildly. "Juan! I regret not listening to what he said. It turned out to be a big mistake! When our ship's bottom was damaged and all the sailors went to the bottommost cabin to unload and try to save the ship, we were killed by poison gas! I was not his match and lost to him. He cursed those of us who died to vent his anger! Adventurer, what are your plans?"
It turned out that all the cargo was dumped by them! As a professional, Da Fei knew that the plot had developed again. After all, Juan's body was so well-hidden, how could the average player find it? There were definitely hidden missions in hidden scenes!
Da Fei immediately said, "Juan's last words were that I should avenge him and expose Markal's scam. Of course, I will inherit his will and uphold justice!"
In just that one instant, the Skeletons were enveloped in cold flames!
Renoir smiled and said, "I always thought I was a fearless person, an adventurer who dared to take risks in any kind of dangerous place. But, when I died, I felt the insignificance of my soul. I became timid under the torture of the curse and I had nothing holding me here. My biggest wish is to get rid of the curse, die quietly, or even ascend to Heaven! But now, I changed my mind. I want to fight to the end. Adventurer, Juan's will is my will. I will assist you!"
—System Message: You have accepted the side mission "Captain Renoir's Revenge" of the Epic Mission "Conspirator on the Great Route"!
—Novice Guide: The side mission is not a mission that must be completed, but the completion of the side mission will greatly facilitate the completion of the main mission.
Da Fei was shocked! Could it be that he was going to gain an Epic Undead Hero?
This should be the case! They gave him an Epic Mission, how could they not arrange for an Epic Hero, right?
Renoir continued, "Before that, I must destroy the cursed enchantment on the island. Otherwise, my soul will forever be imprisoned and I cannot leave! From now on, I will destroy the enchantment with my all. It may take a day or two. During this period, many enemies will definitely be alerted and attack me. But, I have no time for them. Adventurer, your task is to protect me and prevent the enemy from disturbing me!"
—System Message: The Trial Mission "Assist the Captain in Battle" will begin in 30 seconds. Player, please guard against the enemy's attack until the destruction ceremony is completed!
Da Fei was stunned! What the heck! It turned out that the hero could not fight yet! He had to defend the hero! However, he had leveled up enough that ordinary enemies were not a matter of concern! He could kill any unit below Level 4 with just one hit! He would give it his all!
What if he failed? Da Fei could not be bothered to think about it. Similar to how Da Fei would never waste time wondering if he would win when he bought the lottery. After all, Da Fei was a failure in reality, and a few more failures in the game did not matter.
Since there was still time, Da Fei immediately took out his Beginner's pack and began to eat and drink to replenish his energy. Five days had passed in the game? Raging Sea of Blood's freshwater should be almost depleted? Da Fei had harvested all the fruits, was he thirsty now? Haha.
—System Message: The Trial Mission will start in 10 seconds.
Renoir walked to the middle of the desert island and cold flame from his entire body saturated his sword. Then, he stabbed the sword into the ground and a shockwave radiated outwards. Thunder roared in the dark skies above the island and the gray seas around it grew turbulent.
—System Message: Trial Mission started! Good luck!
A red dot flashed on the small map and a strange four-legged bony fish climbed ashore.
It was a unit he had never seen before! It was not on the official website either! Of course, there were as many types of Undead units in the Undead World as there were types of insects in the Terrestrial World.
Da Fei immediately rushed to the bony fish that was the size of a dog and shot it! -45! One-shot kill! Yay!
—System Message: You have obtained incomplete information about the Nether Sea Bone Servant!
—System Message: You have killed a Nether Sea Bone Servant and gained 50 EXP!
50 EXP?! Da Fei immediately expanded the information panel.
—Nether Sea Bone Servant:
Small Undead Creature.
Attack: ?
Defense: 10
Health: 11
Damage: ?
Attack Speed: 8
Movement Speed: 5
EXP: 50
Special Skill: ?
This blood-sucking parasite was of the same level as an ordinary Level 4 unit! Of course, from Level 4 onwards, the EXP gained varied greatly from unit to unit. It could no longer be measured on the same scale as Level 1, 2 and 3 units. In short, the more Special Skills it had, the stronger the Special Skills and the higher its Health, the more EXP gained. The difficulty coefficient determined the EXP. The elite form often had one more Special Skill than the normal form. Hence, it was normal for the EXP to be doubled. As for a Boss, it was obvious the EXP could not be calculated by normal methods.
This was just the first unit encountered and it was already like this? What would come after this?
Just then, another Bone Servant climbed onto the beach and the other side of the island. Da Fei ran to it immediately without another thought.
