Even An Idiot Would Not Have Done That

Old Bard was chopping wood when he saw Chen Bing, and he just gave him a quick glance, as if not acknowledging his presence.

"Mr. Bard…"

"I said until you kill both monsters, I will not answer any of your questions!"

Just as Chen Bing was about to speak, he was coldly interrupted by Old Bard.

Tch, how stubborn could he get!

"Mr. Bard, please do not panic. I have already killed the Mutated Bear, and I have the confidence to be able to kill the Mutated Tree. However, just as you know, I want to continue investigating the mutation of monsters on the island, and I need a wooden boat for journeying the seas. The Mutated Tree was formed from ironwood, and it's perfect for building a boat, and it would be a waste to just kill it and leave its corpse out in the open. I wanted to make a boat out of the Mutated Tree's wood after killing it, but I'm not good at logging. Therefore, I ask for Mr. Bard's help in this matter."

Chen Bing spoke earnestly.

Mutated Tree was hard to counter, but he had found a way to counter it. He walked all the way back just for Old Bard to help him upgrade his logging skills.

Logging skills were acknowledged as the most important skill among all skills in "Evolution Island."

Outside of Old Bard's wooden house, there were piles of logs placed there. The logs were all chopped in an orderly manner, which meant that Old Bard's logging skills were at least of Expert level.

However, it was not possible for Old Bard to teach him the skill right away. But Chen Bing felt that a chance had arrived after meeting the Mutated Tree.

Even though if it was not successful, the penalty was a round trip. Of course, Chen Bing was going to risk it.

"You can kill the Mutated Tree?" Old Bard asked with contempt.

"Of course, I just happen to have a way to counter it, and I even ask Mr. Bard to teach me logging."

Chen Bing spoke with confidence.

"Alright, but you'd better not lie to me. There won't be anybody on this island who will help you build a boat!"

Old Bard agreed after giving it some thought.

"Look at me. I'm doing it once only!"

Old Bard shouted loudly and raised his ax, and chopped the big tree in front of Chen Bing neatly. Under Old Bard's ax, the trunk turned into beautiful wooden planks.

"System: Your Logging skill has reached 'Intermediate'!"

After Old Bard finished his demonstration, the system sent out a notification.

It really was a game after all. He managed to level up without any practice at all.

"Thank you, Mr. Bard, but could you show me one more time? Even though I felt like my logging skills have improved, I don't think it will work on the Ironwood Tree Monster. The monster has turned into a spirit, and its wood is very tough to chop!"

Chen Bing did not leave just like that, and he pleaded with Old Bard for more.

"An Ironwood monster's body isn't that tough. That's all I'm going to teach; if it doesn't work, then it's because you didn't put your mind into it!"

Old Bard spoke lightly, not wanting to teach Chen Bing at all.

Chen Bing still did not give up and kept on pleading with Old Bard. He even exaggerated the importance of logging, but Old Bard still refused to teach him. The world would probably stop spinning because of their tug-of-war.

However, Old Bard refused to give in to Chen Bing's sweet words, and calmly rejected him again. Later, he outright ignored Chen Bing.

"Uncle Bard." 

In the midst of their conversation, a figure appeared.

It's Harlock!

"Harlock? Why have you come?" Old Bard swerved his glance towards him.

"Mossy was in deep trouble just now. I'm worried about you, and I've come to find you." Harlock spoke unnaturally.

But why?

Because it was what Chen Bing told him to say!

In reality, Chen Bing met Harlock beforehand before finding Old Bard.

Harlock trusted him a lot, and Chen Bing told him about the Mutated Tree and his wish to use the wood to build a boat. Then, he wanted him to ask for Old Bard's help, and Harlock agreed without a second thought.

However, before coming to meet Old Bard, Chen Bing purposedly panicked in front of Old Bard and told Harlock that Old Bard was not willing to teach him, and he left Harlock to act as instructed.

Luckily Chen Bing was not selling Harlock away. Or else, a pure villager like Harlock would definitely be kidnapped and sold for coins, and he would even need to help with counting the coins.

"I'm fine, don't worry about it." Harlock's expression softened and he shook his head.

"I'm fine… Uncle Bard, when I just came, I think I saw this adventurer asking you to teach him about logging?" Harlock wondered for a moment and did as Chen Bing told him.

"You know him, and now you want to help persuade me?" Old Bard glanced sharply at him.

"Yes. He saved me once, and he wanted to investigate the truth of the mutating monsters. Without a good boat, it would be very dangerous on the sea."

Harlock spoke frankly. Chen Bing did not tell him to say that; it was his own thoughts.

"He saved you? ...Alright, young adventurer, you are in luck to be able to witness my true skill!"

"System: Your logging skill has reached 'Expert' level!"

Old Bard showed the logging skill once more. This time, his swinging motion was almost flawless, and it made everyone feel delighted watching him do that.

After Old Bard finished displaying it, Chen Bing's logging skill immediately upgraded to "Expert" level!

Hahaha, a jump in upgrade from "Beginner" to "Expert" is probably unprecedented in "Evolution Island"!

What if I'm the legendary master of games?

Chen Bing was satisfied deep down. Nobody knew about his shortcut to increase his level, and it made him feel a sense of victory.

"Thank you very much, Mr. Bard. Please await my good news. I shall kill the Mutated Tree now!"

Chen Bing thanked Old Bard enthusiastically and turned around and left.

He did not rely on Harlock and Old Bard's relationship for him to talk about Bo En.

Firstly, it was not needed. Secondly, Chen Bing thought it would make things worse and anger Old Bard.

After all, he did not want to lose everything just because he was greedy.

After returning to the spot of the Mutated Tree, Chen Bing was not in a hurry to attack the Mutated Tree.

According to the "Realistic Effect" setting, if he watered the Mutated Tree with poisoned water, the Mutated Tree would have no choice but to be forced to absorb the poisoned water.

It would have a great effect, and the poisoned water that nobody drank would have finally found its purpose!

Shadow of Slime was reformed after being exposed to the sun on their journey there. After a wave of Chen Bing's hand, the two slimes charged towards the Mutated Tree.
