David and Goliath Part 1

The life here didn't seem half bad. Even with the weird kid who owned the place going about his strange practices the life here seemed very pleasant, even the other kids seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Each day in the morning they would be tasked with cleaning their rooms and then the house and then maintaining an area of the garden. Simple. The only thing that was out of place with their duties is that they were tasked to read everyday and that they were given this strange mark on their arm that looked like an owl.

There were also these strange beasts that came by everyday to help tend to the land. They were quite terrifying. There were ants that were 3 feet tall and a big black cat that was nearly 6 feet tall on all four legs. There was even this shadowy figure that would appear to patrol the grounds on occasion. Everyone was too scared to go into the fields and do the chores at first, until I found myself playing with one of the ants. They were quite friendly.

From what we could tell, it would be the same ants everyday and they seemed to work for the owner. After I played with them everyone else became a little more comfortable with them and began to work alongside them. We weren't necessarily surprised with their existence as stories of strange beasts were very common and there were rumors that the owner was a child prodigy of one of the bigger families.

"Hey David, do you want to watch him workout again?" Sarah said. Sarah was the oldest at the orphanage and also had a slight crush on the owner. Each day they would sneak over to where he trained and try to copy his movements especially since David seemed to achieve slight enlightenment into one of his moves.

Yet, as they arrived he was just standing there as if waiting for something and next to him stood David's favorite ant, the one he named Goliath. He named it because it was the biggest ant in the pack and he always liked the story of David and Goliath.

"Walk with me." The owner nodded at David and began to make his way toward the manor with Goliath trailing right behind him. He looked to Sarah for her to save him. Although they both were spying on him, why was he singled out?

Little did he know his little escapades with Sarah were never a secret to begin with and they had nothing to do with why Betsalel called him over. Instead it was due to a recent discovery that Betsalel had made.

As they entered into a secret chamber beneath the manor David began to get nervous. Why was he being brought here? Seeing his expression I decided to quell his worries.

"I know you must be suspicious of why I brought you here but be assured you are not in trouble. In fact it is quite the opposite. What do you think about the abilities that some people have and are able to develop?" As I asked I took a nice long look at his expression trying to find each and every shift in emotion.

"They are cool, I guess. I mean I love the idea, but I have never experienced it before so I wouldn't know." His expression at first was kind of wistful, but quickly became solemn after a second. No doubt that kids born without abilities at this time grow up disheartened seeing people just like them getting to do things they can only dream of. But, what if that isn't truly the case? What if what Saar was talking about is somewhere close to the truth? What if all humans have the potential to have abilities but the powers were just being withheld or obstructed by gods?

It couldn't be could it? Beings so estranged from the rest of creation, keeping all of creation at a distance? But, for what? Why not let us grow to the same level?

I guess those are questions for another day. As I turn back to David I can't help but wonder what kind of person he would become if handed the right powers.

"What if I told you, that you could have the same powers that they posess?"

"That would be impossible as I already have been shown to have no potential. Please don't put me through that embarassment again." He said with a strange look of fear in his eyes. Wait why would there be fear in his eyes? Don't tell me that he is not just a regular orphan and actually comes from a higher background. Orphans wouldn't leave their tests in fear, only in disappointment and defeat.

"You know I have been watching you. I have seen how you interact with, what do you call him, Goliath? Yes, you have built up quite a relationship. Couple that with how you have been spying on me, who is to say you are not a spy?" Caught off guard David didn't know how to respond. How did he know? He couldn't know, I come from the Johnson family? Although, I wasn't sent as a spy since no one really cares about 12 year olds, but was discarded since my parents died and I had no potential. My rivals in the family took advantage and got me banned from the clan. Maybe, I should just tell him?

"Indeed, sir, I am from a family but I am not a spy, my family abandonded me because I did not have any potential and my inheritance would get in the way of others." Ahh, so that is the reason. Well, if that's the case and he has that mark on his arm tying him to me, then.

"What if I said I could give you power, as long as you work for me?" I asked, trying to sound as tempting as possible.

"Well if it were possible I would love that, but those without potential never have abilities." He said as if it had been ingrained in him. I wonder how many times he must have said that to himself in order to give up on the notion of ever having power.

"Do you remember that thing I had you say when you got that rune weeks ago? Say it in your head, and agree to it, truly. Then you will become an extension of me. You will have power, as long as I am alive and you work for me, deal?" A near bone-chilling grin appeared on my face as my tone and demeanor was making the encounter seem sinister. I have to work on my EQ, Jesus.

"Deal" As soon as he said that Goliath strode forth toward the boy and began to shrink. Simultaneously the rune on the boys left forearm began to morph, becoming an ant. Becoming Goliath. It worked.

"You now have the power to wield lightning and shadow. Also you posess a familliar with whom is bonded to your spirit, that you can always call upon in your times of need. Take care of it and he will take care of you." My face, stone cold. I had to or else I would have burst into laughter. What a performance.

Even still everything I said was true as I could see his character stats and abilities in the file folder called Deals. It was a part of my new ability.

"From now on you are an agent of the Unseen. The Unseen is an agency of powerful people who work for and are trained by me. They are my hand in the darkness." Ahhh I love this moment. I can't help myself. Is this chuuni-
