After the Tragedy 5

After spending a few months in prison Jack was already known to all guards and some people in the army, as he was a hunter who was arrested for killing a murderer he received the sympathy and understanding of the guards and soldiers of the kingdom.

After all, they were also wronged at times when they saw nobles and merchants committing crimes if they accidentally arrested these nobles and merchants they could be arrested or even killed for doing what is right.

They were also impressed by how Jack trained every day and was always silent, what Jack was doing besides training was meditating thinking about the movements of the sword, the bow, and even the movements he made as a blacksmith.

Jack didn't know if it could help him or not after he got out of prison, but at least it helped to pass the time that was what he had the most in prison, and it impressed the guards and soldiers for his dedication.

If the guards forgot to give Jack food and water he probably wouldn't ask, as the guards liked him they naturally didn't forget to give Jack food and water.

Jack got used to it after a while of the attention he was getting from the guards and soldiers, but during the night when he was sleeping normally few guards stayed in prison, that night one of the guards came over to his cell alone and called for Jack who woke up.

"You are a very quiet guy, which is why the other guards like you, usually when people are arrested they get angrier at the guards."

Jack just looked at the guard and didn't answer, he understood as a hunter that the city guards were just doing their job when they had to arrest him, and Jack had killed Luiz and Luiz's subordinates.

"I know who you are, you must be Mary and Tim's son."

Jack who was calm looked scared at the guard who was talking to him, he was an older man who looked to be over 50 years old, this guard was much older than his father and Jack did not remember meeting him before.

But if the merchant Jan knew he was the son of his parents, surely Jan would send someone to kill Jack even if someone found out that he was the one who sent the killers, the man realized that Jack was worried and kept talking.

"Don't worry boy, I'm not your enemy I was friends with your grandfather, I was working when your mom decided to flee the city with your dad because Jan was after her."

"My name is Paul, I knew you were Mary's son because you have some similarities with her, luckily Jan didn't see you or I might suspect that you are Mary's son."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Paul, you will help me a lot if you don't tell the other guards who I am."

"Of course I'm not going to do for anyone what I know, I wish I had helped my friend's daughter who died, but as I couldn't I could help you who is my friend's grandson."

Jack was still a little suspicious if Paul was telling the truth and Paul realized that, so Paul started telling stories about Jack's grandfather and his mother too, Jack didn't know anything about his mother, but after a while, he believed what Paul was saying.

"I could never hope that you could become a hunter, you technically followed a little what your grandfather did in his entire life, as your father was a blacksmith I thought you were going to become a blacksmith too."

"I'm sure Jan thought so too, so he didn't suspect you when he heard that you were a hunter."

"I also learned how to be a blacksmith with my father, I was able to learn many things from him before he died, but I am not a blacksmith because I have neither the strength nor the experience for that."

"I always liked to fight and help others so after I was saved by some hunters in my village, I decided to become a hunter and I have been a hunter for just over a year."

So Paul understood what was happening, by the power that Jan had even if Jack had protected his father and killed Luiz and Luiz's subordinates, Jan would send some more of his subordinates to kill Tim and Jack.

Maybe Jack being a hunter was the only way he wouldn't end up dying with his father, Paul had heard that Jan had given up on getting involved in Jack's case, so he would live after getting out of jail.

"You were lucky not to try to come to the capital after learning that Jan had your father killed if you had come you would have died before you could look at him."

"I heard that Jan doesn't suspect anything and won't get involved with you now that you're in jail, so you're safe if you don't look for revenge."

"Thanks for telling me that, I don't intend to seek revenge but to be sure I can kill him."

"Well said, I wouldn't forgive anything like that if what happened to you happened to me, I can try to help get out of here faster."

"Like what?"

"You said you like to fight and all soldiers and guards know that you are a skilled hunter who killed Luiz and his subordinates with ease, I can recommend that you join the kingdom's army."

"You can be a soldier or a guard, but with your skill as a hunter I think Captain Max will let you be a soldier, so you stay away from Jan too."

Jack did not think that this could be possible and was prepared to spend several years in prison, but if that is even possible then Jack would like to join the kingdom's army, so he could have a chance to kill Jan someday.

"You need to think about this first, it would normally be impossible for a prisoner to become a soldier, but the kingdom may go to war this year or next, if that happens you will have to fight a war and may not survive to get your revenge."

"I know that, but war can also be an opportunity for me to gain more authority in the army and so I can get an opportunity to kill Jan without being discovered."
