After the Tragedy 6

Paul's visit made Jack happy again, he found someone who knew his grandfather and mother well and won a friend in this difficult time he was in, and Jack also got the hope that he could get out of prison sooner than he expected.

Even after talking to Paul, Jack continued to do the same things he did before in his cell so that the guards would not suspect anything strange, after a few days Paul who was a veteran guard respected by everyone including the captain of the guards' Max went to speak with the captain.

"Hi, Captain Max, could I talk to you for a few minutes?"

"Paul, of course, you can talk to me, what happened?"

"I wanted to talk to you about the new prisoner, I know that you and the other guards liked him as much as I did, after all, he was arrested after doing his job just as some of us have been too."

"It is true, it is a pity that I cannot do anything about it, letting him stay only a few years in prison is the best I can do for him, otherwise I would have no peace with Jan Stokes' complaints."

"I know that, but I thought of something that could help us and also help that young man who is in prison."

"Oh, and what did you think about, Paul?"

"I thought you could get him out of prison and put him as an army soldier, we are in difficult times when a war can happen suddenly, this young man is an experienced hunter who killed Luiz and his subordinates without being hurt, he knows the forest as well, could be a big help to our army and Jan couldn't complain about it."

Max listened to what Paul said and thought about it for a while, it sure could be a good idea to put an experienced hunter in the army, so that he could make Jan angrier without Jan being able to do anything about it.

But Max knew that in order to do that he would have to prove that Jack was indeed an experienced hunter, after all only the guards who arrested Jack knew this and had only heard the leader of Jack's village talk about it.

"I thought this idea was really good, but we don't know if this young man is really an experienced hunter, from what he said he killed Luiz and Luiz's subordinates while they were distracted."

"If I release him from prison and put him in the army and he doesn't have the skills, he goes back to prison, and Jan can use that against me."

Paul hadn't thought about it when he decided to talk to Max, he couldn't say that he had talked to Jack about it otherwise Max might be suspicious and if Jack really wasn't a good hunter then Max could really get in trouble.

"I hadn't thought about it, maybe I can talk to him later to find out if maybe any guard or soldier in the kingdom ever met him when he was a hunter, if he knows someone like that then we will have evidence that he is a hunter Experient."

"Sure, you can do that, but I think it's almost impossible to happen, he looks young and the villages are a long way from the capital."

Paul also thought that this was almost impossible to happen, but he wanted to help Jack and knew that it was impossible for Max to risk helping Jack without having any proof of his skills.

When night came and there were few guards in prison Paul went to talk to Jack again, Jack was excited after seeing Paul again, but when he saw that Paul was not as happy as the last time, Jack realized that he was bringing bad news.

"Hi, Jack, I talked to Captain Max about you becoming a soldier, he liked the idea, but he has no way of knowing if you are really an experienced and skilled hunter, so he doesn't want to risk letting you go."

"I understand, thanks for trying to speak to the captain for me, I knew it would be difficult."

"He told me that if you had met a guard or a soldier when you were a hunter he might have more confidence in releasing you, you have met a guard or a hunter."

Jack soon thought it was impossible that he would have met any guards or soldiers as he never left the village and never came to the capital, but then he remembered the time when he and the other village hunters went to the road who connected the two kingdoms and met some soldiers there.

"It seems that I met some soldiers once, me and the other hunters went through the forest and arrived at the road that connects two kingdoms, there we met some soldiers and Ron, who was from the same village as me, talked to one of the soldiers."

Paul was really surprised to hear this because he didn't expect Jake to actually have met any soldiers, so he asked Jake to tell him how it happened and Jake said it was around the time that the king had some trees cut down near the forest to build the tower defense.

Jake didn't know, but the kingdom workers had already managed to clear the land near the road and the defense tower had already started to be built, of course, the construction of the defense tower would probably take at least another year before it was finished.

And that was because the king was investing a lot of resources in the construction of this defense tower and it was a simple construction that needed only to be resistant and was made to buy time for the kingdom to defend itself from the enemy army.

Paul remembered that the soldiers who were patrolling the road that connected the kingdoms must have returned, the army took turns taking soldiers who had to stay months away from home to patrol the Royal Road.

"This is great then, the captain will definitely find the soldier you found on the Royal Road, it is rare for hunters to cross the forest so these soldiers must surely remember what happened."

"With the confirmation of these soldiers who met you more than 1 year ago and that you crossed the forest full of wild animals, it will be enough guarantee of your experience and skill as a hunter."

Jack was really thrilled to see that Paul looked even happier than he did knowing that Jack could get out of prison and join the army, after leaving prison Jack didn't mind showing his bow and sword skills to earn more Captain Max's confidence.
