Chapter 12 - Meeting(2)

The rest of my day passed in a blur. It was the most peaceful day I'd had yet.

The next day was Friday and I blissfully entered the school without anyone waiting to speak to me. It seemed Loretta would keep her side of the deal.

Humming to myself, I walked into the bathroom. Before I was fully inside, I was shoved against the wall. I heard the door slam shut and I was immediately surrounded by girls.

"Well well well, if it isn't the little blackbird." a familiar condescending voice said.

Spinning around, I saw it was some girls who I didn't know and my sister.

"Elena, fancy seeing you here." I calmly replied.

"I don't see why. Shit belongs in the bathroom." was her scathing reply. As she spoke, one of the girls with her locked the door.

"Then I guess we're both shits since we're here," I replied with a smirk. "What do you want?"

Elena stared at me before turning to the nondescript girl next to her.

"Hit her." with no hesitation, the girl stepped forward and slapped me across the face.

My head snapped against the wall and I could taste blood in my mouth. Focusing, I glared at them both.

"What, you want to hit me? I fucking dare you!" She smiled sarcastically. "Whore! All you do is seduce men! I've been waiting for that Rockefeller bitch to leave and you've finally driven her off with your whorish ways!"

I just continued glaring at her and she laughed as she walked around.

"I've really had it with you, you know? How can an outside girl like you get their attention? You decided to ruin my engagement because you were jealous! You just had to find a way to get back at me, didn't you!? You knew that having a relationship with the Rockefeller family would make father reconsider your position in the family didn't you!" The last bit was a scream that rang throughout the restroom. Great acoustics really.

"I have no idea what you're talking about.," I replied coolly. What kind of convoluted reasoning was this?

"Of course you do. Why else with that snobby bitch wanting to hang out with you? With that whorish face of yours that looks just like your disgusting mother. Both of you are always seducing married men. Who knows if you'll try to seduce my fiance too. Looking at it disgusts me. Slap her again! And I dare you to hit me back. Watch how I'll report you to the administrator. Let's see you graduate and give your speech now!"

We spent a long time in that bathroom.

Before leaving, my sister left some parting words, "You better stay out of my way Canary. Else we'll have another conversation similar to today. Hmph!" flipping her hair, she left with her posse.

After they left I stared at myself in the mirror. Thankfully, they had avoided my face for the most part and targeted my chest and legs. Apart from feeling stuffy and slightly swollen cheeks, I was fine.

I ran some cold water and chanted. 2 more weeks. 2 more weeks until I could leave these people behind.

I decided to skip school for the rest of the day.

Back in my room, I took a hot shower and treated my face to some ice packs.

Laying on my bed, took out my laptop and pulled up the contract Avery Rockefeller sent me.

I owed him one. Incidental or not, his sister's presence around me had unwittingly provided me protection from retaliation from my sister and her cronies at school. I couldn't have a debt.

Gathering myself, I e-signed the contract and sent it back. To the best of my ability, I couldn't see anything wrong with it, and besides, I needed to get away from this house and these people.

Then I took out my phone and texted Loretta. I might as well fulfill that promise.

Canary: Hey, let's meet up tomorrow.

Loretta: Sure how's brunch? I know this great place near the mall. Their waffles are to die for.

Canary: Okay

Loretta: Sweet, see you then.

Satisfied with the arrangement I decided to take a nap. One last check of my phone showed that Avery Rockefeller had emailed me back.

Canary,

Thanks for signing the contract. I'll have my people send you details of the upcoming steps. If you need anything urgently, here's my assistants' number - XXX-XXX-XXXX

A.Rockefeller

Sighing in relief that something was going right, I drifted off to sleep.
