Everytime Kaye visited the orphanage, she would spend a day and night with them, so that night she didn't go back to her apartment.
When Ivan arrived in the evening, he frowned due to a deafening silence. There was no movement from the kitchen, living room or from Kaye's room. Usually she would be awake during this time of the night since there's no work tomorrow.
"She might be really tired." he muttered under his breath and decided to leave her alone. He took a quick shower and changed his clothes. He ate before going back to the apartment so he wasn't angry at all.
He called his mother to let her know he's back before sending a voice message to his sister. Around ten in the evening, he began to worry since it was still quiet. He stood and went to the other door giving it three slow knocks.
"Kaye? Kaye are you still sleeping?" he called from outside her room but there was no response. "Kaye, you haven't had dinner yet." still there was none. He tried opening her door but it was lock and he didn't have a duplicate key. Of course he wouldn't have a key of a girl's room. Realizing something off, he went back to the front door, crouched low and found her slippers.
Ivan could only mentally slap his forehead. "Why didn't I think of this earlier? So she went out." he heaved a sigh of relief. In the end, he decided to sleep since it was already late at night.
The next morning, Ivan woke up early and started his morning routine. His ears were itchy for any movements from Kaye's room but there was none.
It was afternoon already when Kaye went back to her apartment and what greeted her was Ivan's indescribable face. She didn't speak and Ivan wasn't speaking either. When she entered the living room, she heard his frostbite voice.
"Where were you?" It was a very simple question but Kaye didn't know how to react at all. She stood there silently looking at his poker face.
"I...I went...went..." she was stuttering again.
"Why can't you answer me directly?" he was raising his brows already and he looked devilish with a smirk on his face. Looking at him, making her nervous and all, Kaye flared up.
"Oh? and why do I have to report my affairs to you? Didn't you go out yourself without telling me?" she taunted him before getting a glass of water.
It was Ivan's time to be stunned of her words. "I didn't mean it that way. Do you know how worrisome it was when you were not here?I thought something happened to you inside your room." he argued back with that same poker face.
"Whatever." she rolled her eyes not willing to give any explanation to him.
Ivan continued, "I went back home yesterday morning. You know my reason for staying here." his voice was still cold.
"Then why can't you think that I might've gone home as well. This isn't my home in the first place. Any moment, I might go somewhere and not come back. So what? Let's...Let's just drop this. I'm tired." she opened her door and slammed it back to close it.
"Idiot. Idiot. Foolish. Stupid. Idiot!" Ivan cursed silently against himself. He was just worried and wanted to know what she was up to, but it wasn't how he projected it.
"Damn!" he threw the pillow from one of the couches and went inside his room as well. He didn't close his door but stayed inside and listened for movements.
Kaye was hugging her pillow tightly, bracing herself not to shout or yell at Ivan in the other room. Though each apartment room was soundproofed from other apartments, the rooms inside each apartment were not.
"Damn this guy! Wasn't he the one who left first without letting me know? Why was he angry?" she was gritting her teeth and was about to explode from frustration when her phone rang. It was her mom calling her.
"Sweetie, we will leave for Malaysia tonight. Are you not really coming?" her mom asked her knowing it's impossible.
"Nah. Just enjoy your vacation with dad." she said without any expression though her mother can't see her, she could still hear her.
"What's wrong? You sound aggrieved." her mother asked her again full of worries.
"Nothing mom. I'm just a little bit tired from work lately. I'll be fine. Don't mind me." Kaye answered while massaging her temple and trying to relax from her frustration.
"Sweetie, what souvenir would you like?" it was her dad talking to her now.
"Daddy knows me really well. I want a silk scarf. Any color is fine." she gave him her answer though she knew it wouldn't be a scard in the end. Her daddy was really forgetful, despite that she would always receive lavish gifts from him.
"That'a noted. This time, I will get you this silk scarf. Anything else?"
"Even if it's not, as long as you'll come back home safely, I'm fine. Dad, you take care of yourself and mom." she reminded him.
"I know. You take care as well."
"Hn." she responded back. After a few more exchanges, her dad decided to end the call since they still have to prepare.
Kaye slumped back to her bed lifeless once again. She didn't like to get up and most of all, she didn't like to see him as of now. She opened her phone and looked for her therapy music. A collection of Soul of The Wind instrumental music.
Few minutes later, she fell asleep without any care of the world.
