RECONCILIATION

When evening came, both Kaye and Ivan didn't come out for dinner though they're awake, they stayed inside their own room in silent, contemplating what to do.

Ivan was in between going out to chat with her and apologize or go out and never come back again. In the end, he chose to go out but Kaye was still inside her room. Ivan knocked on her door but didn't get any response. He knocked it again, this time he earned a yell from her.

"Stop knocking! I don't want to talk to you. Leave me alone, you idiot!" Kaye shouted at him coming from her room.

"I know it was stupid of me to question you. I'm sorry. I didn't mean it in a bad way. I was just worried." Ivan admitted without any sign of backing out from their fight. He sounded sincere in his apology as well.

"Just leave me alone tonight. Let's talk tomorrow. I'm really tired." Kaye sounded sad and tired. Ivan couldn't do anything to convince her.

"I'm sorry." Then he left and went back to his room. He just stood in the middle of his room doing nothing. After a while, he took a long breath and exhaled abruptly taking a sit and worked on his app analysis instead.

Kaye was still lying on her bed in a fatal position. She hugged her legs and burrowed his head. "So quick to judge me. Didn't he leave as well. This jerk." She muttered under her breath. "But he apologized as well. I should really talk to him tomorrow." She gave a nod to herself expressing agreement to her own thought.

The next day, it was Ivan who woke up first. He sat on a couch at the living room in daze. He wasn't doing anything nor he brought his phone and tablet. When Kaye went out, it was his lonely back that she saw first. She didn't know why but he was surrounded by a gloomy and lonely atmosphere and it pained her.

'Hold on Kaye. Stop right there. Don't let your thoughts wander.' she scolded herself and walked out slowly trying to not make any noise. When he turned his head toward her, she halted.

"You're awake. Good morning." Ivan greeted her devoid of emotions.

"Morning." she greeted back awkwardly. "Last night, I heard you. I apologize for my rudeness. I know you were worried, but really I just went to do something important in an orphanage." she continued talking before their greetings turn into argument.

"I'm glad you're safe. I was just really wondering where were you last time. It's really not your character to leave without any notice left. Forgive me if I'm mistaken." Ivan was slow on his speech but each word was clear to hear.

"You're actually right." Kaye walked and sat on the other end of the couch opposite to where Ivan was sitting. "I did think of letting you know but I don't have your number and I couldn't leave a note as well because you can't read it. So there...I left without letting you know."

"I see. So I was at fault on this matter as well."

"Ha? Ah no. No. No, you're not at fault. It doesn't really matter. You don't have to bother yourself with whatever my business is. Just think that you are alone in this room, that I don't exist."

Ivan's face twitched when he heard her. "How do you expect me to do that, Kaye? When I sat here, your scent is here. When I ate the food, the taste is your way of cooking. When I took a shower, your -"

"Stop. Please stop. This isn't making sense." she was so embarrassed her face was getting hotter after every word he said.

"Right. Asking me to think you don't exist is nonsense. That's impossible to do, specially that I'm using the bedsheet and -"saying those things with a poker face was really awkward for her.

"Please Ivan just stop talking for a while. I'm dizzy with so much words to consider." 'And stop saying those embarrassing words!' she'd like to add but she didn't want to make things awkward so she stopped herself.

"How about this, let's exchange numbers and in the future if we would leave the house for other reason aside from work, we'll have to let the other person know. In that way, we won't worry and speculate as to what might've happened. How about that?" Ivan suggested after a few minutes of silence.

"I'm fine with that." 'I would get his number? Really? This is great!' she was celebrating internally with the idea of getting his number.

Ivan stood up and went to his room to get his cellphone and tablet. A little while after, he went back to his seat and started typing something.

"Give me your number." Kaye typed her number slowly to make sure that she's giving the correct one. A moment after, her phone started ringing with an unknown caller. "That's my number, save it." 'After a month, I finally have her number.' he thought as he placed his phone on table with a hidden smile.

"Done. Let me prepare breakfast first." Kaye stood up and started walking to the kitchen.

"Don't forget our agreement. It would be best that we know each other's whereabout." Ivan reminded her.

"Yes. Yes. Yes. I understand. I won't forget it." 'Now that I have a reason to call you, how could I?' she was giving herself a laugh and a pat on her shoulder for finally getting his phone number. 'Let's celebrate. What's good for breakfast?' she continued her inner monologue, while humming as she checked their available ingredients.

Ivan hearing her hum and felt her change of mood, didn't say anything but shook his head instead unbelieving how a mood swing really affect someone's whole day. Taking his cellphone again, he moved her number to his favorite list along with his sister's phone number. Most of Ivan's contacts are for business purposes and few are personal. Under his favorite list, it only has his sister's number and now, Kaye's number as well.

"I'm glad, this chance came." he murmured while looking at his phone.

"Were you saying something?" Kaye asked him after hearing him talked softly.

"No. I was listening to something." he denied before putting his phone back to the table.

"Oh I see. Alright just continue whatever you're doing. Breakfast will be ready after half an hour." then she left and continued with her breakfast preparation.
