SCARS OF THE PAST III

Ivan submitted all the necessary information with the help of the nurse that was sent to him. After submitting the documents, he sat on the bench while waiting for the test results. He fished out his phone from his pocket and called Kaye's parents. Kaye didn't know it, but last time when they ate outside with her parents, Kaye's mom gave him their contact details.

"Hello Ivan? How are you?" asked Mrs. Jimenez who picked up her phone not more than the second ring.

"I'm okay auntie. Kaye is undergoing medical examination right now. She fainted earlier when we encounter a building caught in fire. I'm still waiting for the result." Ivan confessed in one go to let her parents know about her situation. Kaye's parents didn't overreact when they hear the news. They're used to it already.

"It must have frightened you. Kaye has a traumatic experience with fires when she was young. Thank you for looking after her. Which hospital are you right now?" Mrs. Jimenez asked him for the address and Ivan sent it to her phone. "I got the address. I'll be there with my husband. Take care of yourself as well."

"Okay auntie. Stay safe." Ivan didn't have much to say to Kaye's parents. He wanted to tell them not to worry, but Kaye being out of her consciousness for more than an hour was worrisome.

Not long after his call, the doctor came out with the test results. He was flipping through the pages as he walked towards Ivan.

"Sir, the patient that was with you is fine, but if I may ask, did she get herself caught in a fire before?" the doctor asked before he sat down beside Ivan. He didn't make him stand since he was blind and thought that sitting would be fine.

"I heard from her mother that she has fire trauma." he admitted to the doctor the thing that he just found a while ago.

"Hmm. Just as I thought. When we checked her earlier, she has burnt marks or scars on her front and back. What happened today was possibly because of her trauma. If she had talked to psychiatrist before, you might as well let her doctor know."

"I'll let her parents know that. Can I see her?" the doctor patted his shoulder lightly before guiding him to her room. Though he was shocked with the news about her scars, he didn't lose his composure.

Kaye was still sleeping, compared to her condition earlier, she looked much better now. Ivan sat on the chair beside her, staring into space of nothingness.

It was quiet in the room, only the beep of the heart monitor can be heard.

"Kaye, I don't know what you've been through all these years." Ivan started talking, almost like a whisper. "When I came back, you were gone and my auntie was sent away by my grandparents. I didn't know anyone who could help me find you aside from her. When I thought I found you, only to find out I was lied to, I was scared. I was scared that I am too late to find you. That day...I decided to end it all." Ivan held her hands and gave it a gentle squeeze. "I don't know if our stars are lucky or unlucky. When I became blind, I found you and I'm sure it's you this time."

Ivan was telling her his story but she couldn't hear him at all. He wanted her to know the truth but she isn't even awake to listen to him.

"I'm sorry if I have to do this. I promised to protect you but until now, I still couldn't. You would understand me right?" this time Ivan cried out of helplessness.

When they were young, he promised to always protect her, bring her out of that place and to not ever come back. In the end, he was taken home by his parents, no communication allowed to his auntie and was sent abroad. When he came back, there was only Tomo who was waiting for him. His father told him that it was left by his auntie and that he must take care of it as he promised. Ivan was devastated because the people that he cares the most were gone. From then on, the young master of Harley was never seen laughing or smiling unless he's with his sister.

Kaye woke up from her deep slumber. She tried to sit on the bed only to find out that she's currently in a hospital. Her clothes were changed to hospital gown and an IV drip was inserted on the back of her left hand.

Her mother approached her when she saw her moved on her bed. "How are you, sweetie?" she looked at her face to see any expressions of discomfort.

"I'm a little bit dizzy but I'm doing fine." she smiled at her mother but it was just for a moment. Her eyes started to wander around the room looking for a particular person.

"Ivan left an hour ago." her father told her out of nowhere that made her blush. It was so obvious that she was looking for him. Who else would she look for aside from her parents.

"I'm glad that he brought you here immediately. He called us during the examination so we rushed over here. It's good to know you're safe." her mother gave her head a gentle pat like she was a kid.

"Miss Maine will be here in a while to talk to you." her father informed her who was now peeling an apple for her.

"Thanks mom and dad. I'm glad that you're both here." Kaye gave her mom a hug and her father a smile. Even though she's a grown up woman, her parents still treated her as their own precious child.

Kaye and her parents continued their chitchat to relieve her boredom while waiting for Miss Maine.

'I thought I'd see my precious Ivan here.' Miss Maine thought before she greeted the trio who were enjoying their conversation.
