DECISIONS I

"How are you feeling right now?" Miss Maine asked Kaye who was sitting on her bed eating slices of apple. The last time she saw the girl, confusion and fear were evident in her eyes but the girl in front of her looked different.

"I'm fine. I was just shocked earlier and some things resurfaced. I'm fine now." Kaye answered Miss Maine's inquiry. "You don't really have to worry about me Miss Maine."

"I'm glad to see you're fine." then Miss Maine turned to her parents, "Can I talk to you guys for a while?"

"Not a problem doc. Shall we get some coffee?" Kaye's mom offered to the doctor while she was getting her things.

"That's absolutely fine." Miss Maine bid Kaye goodbye before leading her parents to a cafe near the hospital.

Ivan was sitting on his room pondering on the things he must do. He wanted to call Alex earlier but he realized he gave him a month to relax so he didn't want to bother him. When he left the hospital after making sure that Kaye's fine and her parents were there to take care of her, instead of going back to the apartment, he went home directly to their family villa.

He stood up and started pacing back and forth in his room. In the end, he called his sister who was currently abroad.

"Bro, you've called. Is there a problem?" his sister asked him since he took the initiative to call. Since he became blind, he would only send voice messages to his sister and it was always his sister who would call him first, but this time was different.

"I just want to check how have you been doing these past few days. It's been a while since the last time we talked." Ivan was sitting on his bed holding a photo frame, the only photo frame displayed in his room. It was a picture of him when he was younger and with him were a young girl and a beautiful lady. They were sitting on a picnic cloth under the flame tree with a black sitting on his lap.

"I'm doing fine. How about you? Did you enjoy your life in your simple apartment?" she teased him. "You almost made me like a diary."

Ivan laughed faintly as he put the frame on his bed. "I'm having a great time in the apartment. You should come back soon." he wanted to tell her that he's made his mind over some matters but he didn't want her distracted in class.

"I'll be back one of these days. I'll come home and surprise you all." his sister has always been like that. She'll come home whenever she likes it without letting anyone know, giving them a surprise.

"That's good to hear. Anyway, I won't take much of your time. Take care always."

"Yes, bro. I'll keep that in mind."

"Hn." Ivan ended the call and was lying on his bed already, the frame on his right hand once again. "This time, I'll make sure to see you both." he whispered to the people in the picture even though it couldn't hear him.

Kaye was discharged later in the afternoon. Her parents sent her back to her apartment to make sure she'll be home safely.

"Don't forget to ask for a sick leave today. Make sure you to take a good rest." her father reminded her. She just gave him a nod before entering the building. She had called Ivan several times while she was in the hospital but no one answered her call.

For the first time, Kaye was seen running towards the elevator door. She pressed the twelfth floor immediately.

"Ding!" the elevator opened and she went outside in a hurry. She opened her apartment instantly only to be greeted with a cold air. It was so awfully quiet. No movements or tapping of keyboards. No silhouette in the living room, the kitchen or shower room. There's no one.

"Ivan?" she called out his name softly at first, checking every place he could be. She knocked on his room but there was no response and the door was also unlocked. She went inside his room but it was also empty.

"He didn't go home? Where could he be? He couldn't be in danger right? This idiot is really...oh, his gadgets are missing...he must be at work." she was about to go out and ask Miss Harley if she knew his whereabouts but when she found that his gadgets were missing, she thought he was working.

Kaye felt reassured after finding out that his other things were still in the room. She skipped happily going back to her room and changed her outfit before calling the company to ask for a sick leave.

"I've decided, I'll tell him about the fire." Kaye whispered to herself before a smile appeared on her beautiful face.
