HOME

Kaye was picked up by her family's driver. All her luggage were placed inside the car's trunk before she got in on the backseat.

She looked at the apartment one more time before asking the driver to send her hom. "Let's head back home directly."

The driver gave her a slight nod after seeing her sad face. She had prepared herself in case Ivan would leave, but now that it happened it still shattered her heart into pieces.

Kaye was looking at the scenery outside the window when her phone rang. The ringtone was so familiar to her that it scared her. She let it ring for a while thinking there might be some mistakes on his end. However, it kept on ringing.

She took a deep breath and answered the phone while covering her sadness and longing voice. "I'm currently busy." She didn't bother herself to greet him.

"I...I'm sorry." Ivan was stuttering on the other end of the line. He didn't really want to call her because he was afraid he would change his mind and go home directly. It's been weeks since he arrived in California before he decided to give her a call.

"Sorry? What for?" Kaye laughed dryly but a tear fell on her lap.

"I'm sorry for leaving you suddenly." Ivan said almost like a whisper but Kaye just laughed as if everything was fine.

"Hey! You don't have to apologize. I knew you would leave sooner or later. It doesn't matter." Kaye answered but her tears kept on falling as she cried silently on the backseat. She didn't sniff or wipe her tears thinking that Ivan might hear her movements.

"I see. How are you? How's work?" Ivan changed the topic but his voice showed a tint of sadness.

"Everything's fine. I'm currently doing something for work. I have to hang up now." It was a lie. She felt bad for lying but she didn't want him to know anything about her from now on.

"I'm sorry to disturb you. It's nice talking to you Kaye. Make sure to take care of yourself." Ivan and Kaye exchanged few more words before the call ended.

She took a mirror from her purse and clean her face. She looked at herself but Ivan's voice kept on floating in her head. She couldn't help but cry again. The driver just let her be. It was obvious that the young mistress got her heart broken.

After almost a three-hour drive from her apartment to her home, Kaye arrived with a swollen eyes. She was wearing a big dark sun glasses to cover it from her parents.

"Mommy! Dad!" Kaye walked towards her parents with a big smile. "I missed you guys so much!" she hugged them for almost a minute before letting them go.

"How was your trip here?" her father asked while leading her back to the living room.

"It was great. We didn't meet any accidents on the road." Kaye answered her father before she sat down. Her parents thought that she's on vacation but when they saw the driver and other maids bringing a lot of things, their eyes widen.

"Tell me, this isn't a joke right?" her mother asked her with a look of surprise. Kaye just smiled at her parents before she took a deep breath and exhaled nervously.

"Mom, dad, I resigned from my work. I have decided to help the company since I would still be the one managing it in the future. I realized it would be best for me to start early." she told her parents with utmost sincerity and seriousness.

"My little darling has grown. I can finally see you work from here." her father was so happy and it was evident on his face and voice.

"Are you sure with this? You know we won't force you with anything." her mother was still reluctant. In fact, she dote on her daughter so much, letting her do whatever she wants as long as she wasn't causing trouble or stepping on someone to elevate herself.

"I'm more than a hundred sure mom. I think this is the best decision I've ever done in my life." Kaye answered with a big smile, still not taking off her glasses.

"That's good to know. How's Ivan?" her mother changed the topic but it was a wrong one.

"Oh. He's got things to do. He left a month ago." she answered them nonchalantly but her heart was breaking once again. "I'll take a rest for a while mom, dad."

It was obvious that she was making an excuse, but her mother didn't confront her. "Go ahead." her mother nodded and she ran upstairs to her room. Without bothering to arrange her things or change her clothes, she flopped on her bed.

Kaye felt physically and emotionally tired. Her brain and heart were both exhausted. She placed her sunglasses on the bedside table, kicked her sandals to somewhere only God knows where before she curled herself into a ball.

"I hate you Ivan. I hate you!" she whispered. Her voice was still loud in the silence of her room. "I shouldn't have allowed you to enter my world. Not only you changed it, you broke it after you left." Kaye couldn't help but cry again. It was such a pain to remember how much a person could give you and take everything as well.

"I hope we won't meet next time. I hope we wouldn't see each other again in this lifetime."

Kaye didn't know that it was a wishful thinking. In the future, there's Ivan everywhere. Of course, that's for the future.
