The old man blinked his eyes at the young woman with brown hair. Angelica had simply smiled convincing that she was a 'doctor'. Travis who was beside her also shook his head in agreement.
Today he was doing his job both as a guard and spectator. Ivan was warned not to join by Angelica and so he was ordered to guard her.
But he found this whole thing boring. It was more like surveillance and to keep Angelica's check from doing anything crazy.
Travis looked at the doctor and then Angelica who was convincing him.
"You see here, I was especially called to heal someone with a very difficult case. I hope you don't mind it... but..." she leaned in and whispered to the man, "I'm a witch and the case involves something only witches can heal. Not even the churches holy powers can help."
The old man looked confused and flabbergasted, "A witch? But why would you heal a human?"
Angelica smirked. She never thought this old man would take it better than most people. Must be because of touch of experience. "See medicine is out specialty and not to brag, there are many things humans can't possibly do. Like mixing poison with poison. Would you feed it to a patient even if you trust your skills?"
"Heavens, no! Why would I do something so preposterous?!"
"Exactly, but what about witches?"
He gulped. Yes, every knew in this world the the best doctors weren't only priest but also witches who vastly have experiences in both poisons and healing.
'They had witches in the capital as well but they refuse to help them. Of course there were reasons but most of the humans have negative responses to witches and even if help had happened. Of something went wrong they would usually blame a witch first.' Angelica thought.
It was a cruel world. But you had to be a player if you want to get what you want.
"Here, give me your hardest patient and I'll heal them. You can even say that a witch healed them."
'There will be more bad than good. But publicity is still publicity.' She just needed their attention on the fact that a witch helped.
That would rile up the priest and nobles. They will probably hunt her down, blame her and try to arrest her. Typical, since it had happened in the past to many witches.
"But why would you do that?"
"Because I care about humans. But you don't share the same sentiment."
The doctor looked at her, "But why my clinic? This is the smallest clinic and... of all the clinics, why would you chose the poorest one?"
"Doctor Frank, I don't care about poor or wealthy. Look at this kid. He was also suffering from a long time poison and I healed him." She pointed to Travis who was silent.
Travis who was paying close attention, nodded at the doctor confirming Angelica's words.
"He had his eyes affected the most that he couldn't even stand sunlight on his closed eye lids." She complained.
"Lady An." He called out to stop her words.
"See? He saw may doctors and he was even rich yet they couldn't help him! Not even the church! So he came to me." She pulled Travis by the arm and poked his face which made the man grimace
"Look at his eyes now! This is all because I heal him with the knowledge of a witch! Do you think that after seeing the church and coming out with no results, is better than what I've just shown you?"
'The Duke must have a tough time keeping this energetic woman.' Travis thought slapping away Angelica's hand and moving away so she wouldn't do that every again.
He felt embarrassed!
'Tch! What a rude brat!' Angelica inwardly thought and glared at Travis who was now looking everywhere but her.
"And for a plus, noble and other doctors won't like a woman that can heal. Don't you see how female doctors are being treated? No less, like me a real witch!"
'Come one old man! Just say yes! I'll even turn Travis into your errand boy!!' She thought.
"I see... but free of charge? Are you sure this is for community service?"
"I swear it. If you feel that I'm untrustworthy then we can sign a contract. Stating that I will be the person to blame for whatever happens to your clinic. I'll also pay in gold if you want." Angelica sincerely meant it.
She chose this place due to the poor management of this area. Most doctors preferred to treat the rich and those with more money. But normal commoners have it rough to even find a good doctor to treat them. She decided that she would not only boast this clinic but also protect it. They were bringing in innocent people to their problems.
It was only right that, they would take responsibility for what happens as well.
"Sir, you have two students and you taught them with the good of your heart. You also help people with that same heart, while being put down by others. I wish to help." She bowed her head to show that she meant it.
Doctor Frank looked at her straight in the face. Angelica felt a bit tense seeing his honest gaze on her. Her heart felt guilty but she had to do something's that involved others at the expense of using them.
"Come tomorrow at dawn. We always clean this place from patients."
Angelica blinked her eyes and smiled. She bowed her head, "Thank you so much!! I'll see you tomorrow then!!"
They were escorted out, Angelica looked around the street and sighed. Well maintained but the people here have the lowest income and education.
"Travis, let's go on a walk." She said and already started walknign but she paused again and turned to him. She waved her hand on front of his face and it made him blink.
"I've hidden our faces with magic. Don't worry no one would recognize us right away unless they have strong magic. Let's go!"
Travis who was dragged around: "....."
Angelica had taken an interest in this part of the city. As she mentioned before, it was clean enough but she noticed that people here seemed off. She wondered what it was.
"Lady An. Is it just me or the people here look more exhausted?" Travis whispered and she nodded.
"Travis, I think there something wrong here. Look around, have you seen any guards?"
"None, but this part of the city is very safe." Travis said.
"It's not a about safety. Just when was the last time they came here?"
Travis felt that something was very wrong, he looked around carefully and felt that this place was just way to gloomy. It wasn't that they were in danger but the whole place just set of vibe of something being off.
"Do you think it's on purpose?"
"Of course. While we're here let's spend time gathering info." She said stopping at a glass shop.
With Travis following her they both entered the shop and acted like normal shoppers. Angelica looked at the delicate glass piece and smiled.
"They're very beautiful." She picked the small glasses piece that looked like a small bunny. She laughed at the adorable piece.
It reminded her of certain adorable woman.
She looked at another piece and felt another chuckle break out. This one was a little wolf with yellow eyes.
It reminded her of Ivan's sunshine eyes. She actually liked looking at his eyes since it reminded her of sunflowers. But that's as her little secret.
(A/N: Did you forget her mind mind reading powers?)
Travis also looked at the glassware shop with interest. He looked at one of the pieces that looked like a eagle. He chuckled and didn't know Angelica was looking at him with surprised eyes.
'Did that boy just laugh?' Every time she interacted with him, he would have a grumpy face and annoyed face. Of course it's mostly her fault but this was the first time she saw him laugh.
"What are you laughing at?"
"Ah... this." He showed her the small glass eagle in his hands, "It just remained me of someone."
Angelica had glitters in her eyes after hearing his words.
