When the reapers turned the corner I sighed hoping that Gord wouldn't be too hard on her. "Look at you being nice to the recruit." I heard the familiar voice of the Scythe squad commander, Björn, from behind me. I turned and was almost crushed when the bear sized man hugged me. "It's been a long time kid how ya been?" He let me down and looked me over holding me at arms length with both his hands. "Björn I have been great and you?" He smiled and released me from his iron grip. "Come boy lets drink."
He opened a rip with his scythe and we walked through and ended up in the commander's section of the fortress. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and led me towards a shelf that carried any drink you could think of, behind said shelf was a very small man with a beard that went down to the floor. "Ah Björn come to clean me out of mead for the second time today?" The short man stated smiling while he did so. Björn looked at me and shrugged, "Maybe later but I would love a cup Midget." The small man laughed and waved his hand and a cup larger than my head appeared filled to the brim with a red purple liquid that smelled of honey and berries. "What about you Lord Arius?" He asked me one bushy eyebrow cocked up in a questioning manner. "Demon brew for me please." The small man simple shrugged and handed me a bottle of black liquid.
"So Arius," Björn said as he found a table that was clean and sat down propping his feet on the top of the table, "I hear you're going to the Silver City, you gonna fill me in after this meeting is over?" He took a massive glug of the mead and sat it on the table looking at me questioningly. "It's kind of top secret Björn I can't discuss it with anyone but Lord Death." Björn opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by a huge blast of dark energy coming through the far wall destroying the table we were sitting at.
We both looked in the direction of the blast and saw two Scythe squad members bickering both had their weapons drawn and one had his hand outstretched seeming to be the one who fired the blast through the wall. "Björn stood up from his chair and vanished only to reappear beside the one who fired the blast. Before I could stop him he had them both disarmed and in a headlock. "Now boys," he said calmly, "Why are you fighting inside the fortress and outside of the training grounds?" I shook my head and smiled. "Björn let them go none of us can die let them have their fun." He released the boys and knelt down so that his face was inches from theirs. "You both owe me a cup of mead." He said angrily before walking back towards me yelling for them to clean the mess they made up. He sat down and the small man brought him a new cup and snapped his fingers repairing the table.
"Now, you were saying?" I said trying to take his mind off of his squad members. "I was going to say be careful, the angels may think they're all high and mighty but most of them are just as bad as the demons. Remember what I taught you, keep your weapon close at hand no matter what." I nodded and took a sip of my brew, it burned but tasted sweet. "I'm sorry to leave so soon Björn but I have to get ready for this meeting. I leave at first light." With a grunt as he finished his mead I left and made way for my room.
Once i reached the door to my room I saw that it was open and someone was inside. "Anagi, what a pleasant surprise." I closed the door and was greeted with a kiss. "Took you long enough, I had enough time to walk here if i wanted to." Anagi was Lady Life's right hand and also happened to be the absolute love of my life, not that that needed to be common knowledge. She wore a simple white sundress and had a crown of flowers on top of her head, her hair a shower of gold shimmering down her back. Her eyes were pale green and just above that was the symbol of Lady Life, a tree tattooed in white ink on her forehead. She backed away and picked up a small object from off my bed, she hid it behind her back and walked back to me smiling when she got back to her original position.
"Guess what i got behind my back Lord Arius?" She said my name with mock authority then giggled. "Hmm what ever could it be?" I teased. She rolled her eyes and handed me a box, "Open it," she commanded I did and was confused. "What's this love?" I pulled out a necklace with a scythe made of a strange gem. "That, is a gem called the valiant stone it can store energy and I placed a protection seal on it so if you're wearing it you wont be hurt by anything but a blast from the Black Hand or the High Seraph, but be careful if the spell is depleted it will start to take your energy." I put it on and didn't even feel it. "Now Lord Death asked me to give you your armor and scythe so they're in your bathroom. But, I have to go I have to get ready for the meeting." She kissed me on the cheek and walked to my door. "See you tomorrow Lord Arius."
She left and I fell on my bed and tried to get as much sleep as my mind would allow. Just as I was drifting into my sleep I heard a knock on my door, "What!" I yelled annoyed that I was being disturbed. "Lord Arius? The commanders are having their monthly meeting and request your attendance." The voice sounded gruff and old like it was coming from a corpse, knowing Lord Death it probably was. "Tell them I'll be there in a second." I heard his foot falls then stood up went to grab my scythe from the bathroom and found my armour glistening on a stand by the sink, my scythe was propped up behind the armour, I grabbed it and went back into my room. I swung it in a high arc and cut through and opened a rift connecting to the commander's meeting area.
