Chapter 2 - Disaster

It has been about five hours since I've been reading this book. It was almost night so I decided to call it a day and returned home.

After leaving the library, I heard a loud explosion, followed by a cry. A cloud of dust and ashes can be seen on the direction of Lily's house. I headed there as fast as I can, helping if someone ever needed help. The bell rang and the villagers panicked. Militias are now being ordered to maintain the civillian's calm and some are preparing to battle.

I arrived at Lily's house and saw it was ruined. Half of the house was broken and the other half burning. I heard a scream. It was Lily's voice. It sounds like she needed help, but no one was still here.

I looked around me and decided I'll take action myself. Before I turned five I wasn't able to go out, so I started practicing magic without anyone knowing. It was mainly thanks to the Blessing I got and the effort I put in.

I casted a barrier surrounding myself so that the smoke can't suffocate me. I then proceeded to pour water over myself so that I won't be burnt badly. I entered through the intact door and followed the shout. I arrived at the room and saw Lily hugging her unconscious father, still crying.

I approached them. Lily was shocked to see me, but still requested my help. 『What are you doing here? I need help. Please. Call someone here. I can't stand up and my father is unconscious.』 She pleaded.

I reassured her that they'll be safe and called out a familliar. I opened a portal and a baby gryphon emerged from it. He may still be a baby, but he can carry an adult man on his own.

I ordered my gryphon to carry Lily's dad outside the house and offered my back to Lily. As she was hopping on my back, a beam fell. I reacted quickly, raising the ground beneath us to form a shield, sweat dripping from my temple.

Lily got on my back and I got out of the house. I saw my gryphon carrying the unconscious dad on his back, scared, surrounded by the militia. I ran towards them, Lily on my back, to clear the misunderstanding.

Running towards them, I saw one of them holding out his spear and readying to thrust. 『STOP!』 I yelled at him, protecting my gryphon with a shield of water, stopping the spear and breaking it in half. I arrived near them and laid Lily down next to the gryphon.

They were confused at what happened, so I started explaining. I told them that I arrived here with the house burning and in ruins, and went inside to save everyone. I then told them about my magic and they were terrified.

『I am very sorry, Lake. I... I thought that thing was the cause of all this and...』 The man that thrusted his spear fell on his knees. I remember him. I always saw him together with Lily.

I accepted his apology. People were gathering around us. The fire was extinguished, Lily and her dad is safe, and everyone was shocked because of me.

『Lake!』 I heard a familliar voice. My mother. I'll apologize for making her worry and explain everything later, but I'll leave about me meeting the gods out. I feel exhausted.

My mother kneeled, hugged me, and cried. 『I was so worried something happened to you... Thank the gods you're all right.』

I hugged my mother back and fainted.

It has been three days since that happened and soldiers arrived at our village. They apologized for the fire and were glad to find out no one was badly hurt.

They explained that a battle happened nearby and a fireball missed and hit here. They gave Lily's family compensation and started constructing their new residence.

The villagers were shocked about what happened and was thankful for the soldier's explanation.

I visited the clinic often, checking up on Lily and her father. Turns out, the man with the spear was Lily's brother and he repeatedly apologized and thanked me.

After those events, nothing interesting happened and a year flew by. I explained everything to my mother. How I have these Unique skills, but not the Blessings. I also introduced mother to Gray, the gryphon.

During boring days, we spent our times together in the woods hunting, foraging, and just having fun. I gained a lot of levels this year because I was finally able to go outside.

Now that I mentioned it, it's been a long time since I last checked my [Glaze].

One day, during my daily hunt, I encountered a Troll. I don't know why since the Forest of Dreams contain only normal animals. But since I'm here now, I'll have to exterminate it because it will destroy the Forest's balance.

I prepared. I got off Gray and thought of what to do. I made up the best possible scenarios on my mind, exploiting the Troll's weakness. They have an extremely high regeneration so they can be tough to deal with but a clean cut in the head finishes the dead.

Sadly, I'm no fighter. Fire is also one of it's weakness since it will burn him, preventing his regenenration. Considering my battle experience and skills, this is going to be a tough one.

We're ready to battle. I commanded Gray to hover on top of the Troll, supporting me as we fight. I then went to the troll's blindspot, but then I heard it sniff. It sniffed until it's eyes arrived my direction.

My feet trembled. Of course I'm nervous. I could be killed. I gathered up my courage and casted a Fire Spell[Flare Burst], shooting it towards the Troll's eyes hoping I can daze it.

It somehow dodged it, atleast it tried to, but Gray pushed him back again with his Wind Magic. It directly hit the Troll's head and it was staggering. The Troll's couldn't steady his movements so I took advantage.

I gathered tons of mana in me and cast an earth spell[Excavate], digging a hole below the Troll and trap him in there. It worked and it fell, headfirst. I shapeshifted into a swallow and looked at the pit and saw the Troll's head stuck at the ground.

Landing on the branch, I prepared to cast a merged spell. I practiced with it but it's hard to control, so this is risky.

I pointed my arm to the hole and gathered both fire and earth energies in one spot. Satisfied with the process, I merged them and shot it. [Magma Boulder], I yelled.

And then my fear came true. It got unstable and it burst apart, burning the trees. I barely got out and some of the debris burnt through my clothes leaving a burn mark and a wound.

Moving to a distance, I tried to heal my wound. However, I heard a loud shriek. It was like a death throe. The troll's final struggle. It appeared in front of me, half its body burnt. It charged through the thick burning thickets of the forest and arrived at the bottom of the tree I'm in.

So fast! Lucky for me I can just shapeshift, so I did just that. I turned into a swallow and flew up. Then pain on my left wing assaulted my senses. Disoriented by it, I screamed and dispelled my shapeshift. I fell into a bush and broke my leg. But Gray saved the day, swooping down and scooped the Troll's eyes out while it's lowered its guard. One of their weaknesses. And it fell down. Like a log that has just been chopped.

I heaved a sigh of relief, clutching my broken leg. I casted water magic around the forest to extinguish the fire and laid down on the bush.

I decided I'll spend the night here, grabbed a letter from my [Inventory]and wrote to my mother and gave it to Gray, asking him to deliver the letter. I left the thing about the Troll and my injuries out to lessen her worries.

Speaking of the Troll, I wonder if I can get it in my [Inventory]. I grabbed a stick nearby and tested if it could support my weight. I then limped towards the Troll's carcass and it worked! It went in as expected.

The sun's setting and I built myself a dirt hut. It reminded me of something from my previous world, but I can't get a grasp to what it is. I set up camp. I built a campfire and smoothened the ground, making it comfortable to sleep and doze off.
