Chapter 3 - Wreckage

It was dawn when I woke up. I went to a nearby river, washed my body and grabbed an extra clothing from my [Inventory]. I leveled up a lot from the Troll and decided I'll spend the points later.

Walking through the thick forest, I ran upon a wrecked carriage about two kilometers from where I set up camp. It looks like it was recently destroyed, so I started searching nearby for anyone.

Midday and still nothing. They might've already safely departed until I heard a groan. The only place I didn't search was the wreckage itself; the place where the wrecked carriage sits.

I asked Gray to help me move the destroyed carriage, conserving my mana. Sweat was dripping from my face. I don't like doing this kind of things. Finally, I can see someone in the rubble. A girl and a boy that looks like the other.

I carried them home, the boy on my back and the girl on Gray's. We arrived and was greeted by the worried villagers. I told them I was fine and said that these guys needed help and dropped them in the clinic.

I went to my house and saw mother still asleep. She must've stayed awake all night. I'll cook her lunch and apologize when she wakes up.

It's dusk and the villagers told me the ones I brought with me woke up. I walked and bought some food on my way there. I arrived in the clinic and entered the room where they were housed in.

I was greeted by them, introduced themselves, and thanked me. I accepted their gratitude and gave them the food I brought. They then told me their stories and I listened.

On their way to Restnaro, west of the Forest of Dreams, they were attacked by their own guards and were left to die in the forest. Jack's face seethed with anger when the guards were mentioned.

They were dismissed by the clinic soon and had nowhere to sleep, so I invited them at my home and they gratefully accepted.

We were on our way home when Gray arrived from his daily hunt and brought a boar with him. Elizabeth's eyes shone when she saw Gray and exclaimed『Is that a gryphon?!』.

I nodded to her question and she kept bugging me how I got him. It was kind of annoying, but with her begging me with those eyes, I gave up. I told them about my skill[Call Familliar]and explained how it worked. I was glad to know that I wasn't the only ome with a Unique Skill when they told me about theirs.

Jack had two:[Detect Trap] and [Shadow Step]. While Elizabeth had three: [Healing Aura],[Dispell], and [Rapid Heal].

We arrived at my house and saw mother sitting on the chair at the porch. I hugged her and told her about the circumstance and she agreed to let them stay. The twins rejoiced and entered our lovely abode.

While I was helping my mother preparing dinner, I saw the twins outside the window playing with Gray at the front yard. They looked at my direction and I smiled at them.

It's now late at night and the twins are tired. I guided them to their room and left. I sat down on the porch, looking up at the night sky and sighed. Remembering that I leveled up, I summon the [Glaze]and increased my skills.

I realized that I'm now over level 20 and I could summon a new familiar, but decided I'll do it tomorrow instead.

Early morning, we gathered around the front yard. I told mother, Lily, and the twins about how I'm trying to summon a new familiar. I drew a magic circle on the pavement and inserted my mana into it.

It was a long process. We waited for nearly an hour until a portal opened and something emerged. It had eight legs and is crawling. It looks like a spider. A black spider with a long white line runnung from its head down to its abdomen. I approached it and began the ritual.

『Willst thou abandon thyself and be bound with I; to serve me in thy life in all of eternity?』

The spider crawled in front of my feet and bowed. 『I pledge thee mine life, abandon mineself and faithfully serve mine lord.』

I reached out my hand and the spider reached out its front leg and said.

『Dost thou haveth a name?』

『I hast none. I shall request milord to grant this one a name to thy liking.』

『Let us stop this kind of talk. I order you to talk normally and I will grant you a name.』

『As you wish milord.』

『Nightmare. That's your name.』

『Thank you for the name milord.』

After the ritual, I sent Nightmare back to the world he came from. I looked around me and saw no one but Jack and mother. I asked where Lily and Elizabeth were and they said that they were freaked out by the spider.

A few weeks later and the twins were going home. I rode Gray together with Elizabeth to find where their home were and it took two weeks. I said my goodbyes to them, said that I'll be going to Restnaro soon and Jack gave me a pin saying that I'll need it to find them.

I wisp of cold air flew down my spine and hugged myself. Winter is coming and a new year awaits.
