Chapter Eleven: I'm Pregnant

~~~My heart was open, exposed and hoping for you to lay it on the line. But in the end, it seemed there was no room for me, still, I tried to change your mind~~~
"Sam, why don't you call him before going to him again?" Jack asked me as we walked along the corridor towards the school basketball court.
I decided to go back to Dale's school just to talk to his best friend because aside from ignoring me, he also didn't answer my calls or even sending me back a simple message. I have already asked for Dale's permission about it and he was the one who suggested me to come and visit his best friend at the university.
I need to talk to Luke before I talk to my parents about this pregnancy. I just want to know his reaction and what his plans will be. If he doesn't want to accept me--- where I already expect it to happen--- well, it's fine. I won't force him as long as he will take his part and responsibility for my baby. I'll let him do whatever he wants.
This time, Jack was the one who insisted on coming with me. She said she could handle Dale's narcissism but she won't tolerate Luke's rudeness.
"I tried, Jack, and honestly, I don't know how many times I called his phone since this morning. I even sent him messages but he didn't return any of those."
I heard her sigh.
"Fine, but are you sure he's now at the basketball court?"
"Yup, Dale sent me a message..." my words were cut when I saw her roll her eyes and I couldn't help but laugh. "Don't worry, he won't bother you this time," I said referring to my brother.
"Hmmp. I hope so."
My heart began pounding faster when we entered the basketball court. Many pairs of eyes followed us as we headed our way towards the players' quarter, but Jack grabbed my hand and motioned me to ignore them.
The first person who noticed us was Paul who also gave me a wide smile.
"Sam." He said getting up excitedly.
I greeted him back and introduced him to my best friend.
"Your brother is in the locker room." He emphasized the word 'brother' as he pointed the door to the left.
"Am I allowed to come in?"
"Of course. Do you want me to come with you?"
"No, it's okay. Thanks."
I took a deep breath before heading to the door. I don't have any idea what will happen to this conversation, but I already made up my mind. I will take all the consequences and no matter what happens, I will give this baby a happy and healthy life. I will do everything to keep him safe... or 'her', if she happens to be a girl.
I found the man I was looking for and he's talking to my brother. They both have a cup of coffee in their hand but their eyes turned into two different emotions the moment they saw me. Dale gave me a faint smile and nodded, but Luke shook his head and his lips curled with a snarl.
He left his post before I could even reach them.
"Sam."
"Dale..."
"Do you want me to talk to him?" Dale asked me with concern tied in his voice.
"No, I can do this. Thanks, Dale."
"Alright, I'll be just outside."
I nodded. "Uhm... she's with me."
He turned to me, frowning. "Who's she?"
"The woman in your dreams." I shrugged.
"What?"
"I mean, your future woman." I giggled but he just rolled his eyes.
"Tss! You're insane, Sam."
I was still laughing even when he closed the door that I hadn't noticed Luke walked over to me and stopped right behind me, so I bumped on his hard chest the moment I turned around.
"Ouch!"
"What do you want this time?"
A loud gasp escaped my throat when he dragged me towards the huge glass window.
"Let go of my hand. I'm not here to create a mess."
He granted my wish. He let me go, but with a slight push. Seriously, does he need to push me every time he's freeing my hand?
"What do you want, Sam? Didn't I tell you stop bothering me?"
"Yes, but I---"
"If you think you can trap me just because something has happened between us, then you're wrong! It was a mistake and I won't let it happen again!" He whispered-yelled.
It hurts to know how much he despises what happened but I'm willing to take it because it's my fault.
"You're the most desperate woman I ever met, don't you know that?"
"I know I'm too desperate, but this time I have every reason to be desperate."
"Tss! You're hopeless." He snorted before bringing the cup into his mouth.
I breathe deeply, swallowing the knot that formed in my throat.
"Why don't you just disappear and never come back? I don't want my girlfriend to know what happened between us. We're getting married---"
"I'm pregnant."
Those two words cut his sentence in mid-air. He accidentally dropped his coffee on the floor because of the shock.
"I'm pregnant, Luke," I repeat and this time he looked at me.
Shock was written in his eyes but then it suddenly turned into anger, so I had to step back.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" He asked following my steps.
"No, I'm not kidding, Luke---ahh!" I winced when he held my arm, tightly.
"This is not a good joke, Samantha Soriano!"
"But I'm not kidding! I'm six weeks pregnant---"
"Goddammit, Samantha!" He shouted, his eyes flared with anger and this made me shut my mouth, but couldn't prevent my tears from flowing. "Do you think I would believe you?"
Narrowing his eyes, he dropped my hand and headed towards the hard wall. And the next thing he did was something I didn't expect and shocked me to the core. He punched the wall twice which made his knuckles bleed.
"Luke!" I ran to him.
"Don't you dare touch me! I don't know what I can do with you woman!"
"But you're bleeding---"
"The hell you care!"
"I'm sorry." I lowered my head, letting the tears flow directly to the floor.
"You're sorry? Really?"
I looked up when I noticed him advancing in my direction.
"If you're really sorry, then get out of sight---no, get out of my life."
"I can't." sob escaped my throat. "I wanted to, believe me, but I can't."
"What the fuck are you saying?"
"I'm pregnant, Luke, why can't you believe me? I've already had an ultrasound result and it stated that I'm six weeks pregnant..."
This time, he didn't say anything. He just stood there, watching me as I continued to wipe my tears while I spoke.
"As I said earlier, I'm not here to make a mess. I'm just here to tell you about your child, that you're going to be a father---"
"I can't."
"What?" I wiped my tears, staring at him in confusion.
"I can't take it. I can't be a father!" He said shaking his head.
"Luke?"
"I'm going to marry my girlfriend and I'm sorry... but I'm not ready to become a father."
And that's it. He started walking towards the door and left me speechless and motionless on my spot. My hand automatically lifted over my chest as I felt a million knives stabbing my heart and tearing it apart.
He already disappeared in my sight when I realized what he did... and that I was already alone in the locker room.
"Luke, wait!" I started screaming his name as I half-walked and half-run just to reach him, but it was Dale and Jack that I met when I came out of the door.
"What happened, Sam?" They asked me in unison, but Jack immediately pulled me into a hug.
I cried over her shoulder as she rubbed my back like a baby.
"What happened?" Dale asked me again.
"He said he's going to marry his girlfriend and..." I was interrupted by the sob that blocked my throat.
"And what?" They asked again at the same time.
"And he can't take it. He can't accept my baby as he's not ready to become a father yet."
"That's fucking bullshit!" Dale cursed loudly and ran to the exit. I know he's going to confront Luke and I don't know what he will do, so I tried to stop him, but Jack also stopped me from following him.
"Let him be, Sam. He knows what to do."
"You think so?" She nodded and then hugged me again.
I guess this time I really have no choice but to accept the truth that he will never be mine, whether or not I have this baby. And of course, I need to prepare to tell my parents everything. Whatever the consequences of all of this, I guess I also have to prepare myself... just for the sake of my baby.
