New Ambitions

I sat in there my palms were sweaty, I wondered how my mother was like. I remember her, but I only had memories of the caring side of her. I wanted to know everything there was to know, after hearing what dawn said earlier I did not want to meet my father. In my mind, he was a rapist, and nothing more. My mother must have hayed her life, I committed suicide over loneliness and stress, if I were in her shoes I would have tried to kill them or escape. Really, she must have been stronger than me, she may have been too meek for all I know. Crap, I need to listen to Dawn.

" Were you listening to me," Dawn was incredulous.

" Uh... sorry about that. You said my mother and I kind of started thinking. Won't happen again, I mean it!" I was stiff in my chair while Lauren was shaking her head.

" I hate speaking about these things, but you need to know. So I would appreciate it if you did. So let's start with the basics. You do know your mother's name do you not."

"Um... no. I only knew her as mother and mom. I never caught her name," I let out a giggle, Why did I ever not question this.

" Her name was Wook, the name did fit her personality," so Wook, huh. Her name meant sunrise in English, I was forced to learn the language when I was young. Now that I have thirteen years of practice not counting my previous life, English could practically be called my first language, experience-wise.

" I met your mother at a party when I was younger, I went undercover with my team. We weren't as big as we are now, only me and ten others. Lumin was one of the first few, he was so young back then. Why did I even allow him to be apart of our group? Back on topic, Wook had already birthed many children before you, but throughout the years there has been a dull, dead look in their eyes, hardly noticeable. She was bright always laughing and smiling, I tried asking her when I could get her alone. She told me that she would give them the revenge they deserve, even if her death was the end result. I have never seen anyone as willful as that woman," Dawn took a sip of water, my full attention was on Dawn never retracting nor moving.

" Not much is known, but your mom had many male children, most who support the way women such as yourself are treated. But, you were her only girl who survived past the age of one. You were born when she was nineteen, you were her pride and joy. She tried to have you protected, I hope you know that. I have no idea what happened to her, the only ones who would know are the elders of the clan. I hypothesize that they either locked her underground where they would use her till she gave out, or she tried something which led to her demise. I believe the latter is the one most likely, your mother would kill herself before she let them take her, to a place she would never have a chance from escaping from," Dawn had beads of sweat on her forehead, she was obviously having a hard time telling me the details about my mother, Wook.

My fingers were clenched, blood seeping from my palms. Lauren's fangs pushed out, she tried to hide the fact. I imagined she wanted to not interfere, in the conversation. Human lives are not things to be played with to gain power. I may some fucked up passing thoughts, I think everyone has them. But, actually acting on them, I'll get revenge in her place.

"Want some water?" a water bottle came flying at my face, at a speed which I could easily catch before, however, I was severely weakened with lightheadedness from blood loss. Lauren caught the bottle in my stead, handing it over to me.

I took a gulp, feeling like I had dehydration all of a sudden: " Thank you."

" Yup," she gave a slight nod.

"Let's take a five-minute break; I need to use the bathroom. Mull over what I just told you," Dawn exited the room in haste.

" What are you thinking, Sera," Lauren said as she sat beside on the arm of the leather chair.

" People are going to pay," I tilted my head in Lauren's direction with a mischievous smile.

" I want to teach those people a lesson for even thinking of treating my Sera, so," I brought my hand with some blood seeping out of the tiny cuts from my nails toward her lips. She cleaned the wound very face seemingly waiting for the opportunity, " blood used to make me want to puke, It may have been a biological thing because now it's like a delicacy."

" Remember, moderation," I said with worry plastered on my face.

" Yeah, yeah. What you never know won't hurt you," Lauren said, I chose to ignore those words for my own good.

We sat like this until Dawn came back with renewed vigor. She sat behind her desk while Lauren went back to her spot.

" Now let us get started again, we're almost finished" she put the bottle of tea on the desk that she must have picked up on her way back.

" Your father disappeared, early in your life when he tried to help your mom escape. I presume he was killed, if not worse was done to him. You never know though the world is a mysterious place. Before she disappeared she gave birth to a daughter who was promising but fell ill and died at the age of nine months. Can you guess who the father of that child was?" Dawn had her hand on her chin, propping herself up.

" How would I know?" Scratching my head.

You should know he's been around you for a while. Michael is the father and the last person to have given your mom a child, it died like I just said. He was closer to you than you knew." I gasped, the hatred I felt for Michael hitting an extreme new high," That's all of the information I have, if you want more you'll have to find it yourself."

"Okay, I'll have to wait then... this is good, more than I could have expected," I wanted to head out now and find out more. Come on, how can I face a clan with so many members by myself.

" Do not try and go off on your own. You are weak, you may have power at your disposal, but training is needed to fully utilize what you have. It's like blowing water through a straw and into a swimming pool, while you have a hose that you don't know how to hook up," she knew what I was thinking about just by looking at me, how clever.

" I know I don't stand even the slightest chance, and probably won't for a while," I said.

" Good, you know your capabilities," Dawn said, no patronizing in her voice, just fact, " Lumin should be at the weapons workshop, go find him. Oh and come back here later tonight, I'm going to introduce you and your family."

We left her office after giving her our thanks, the way out of the building gave me the creeps still, we did see some people in office clothes walking past here and there. We made our way out of the building sunlight felt so good after being inside for so long. I had no idea where to go so Lauren showed me the way, we got some side glances, curious as to who we were. Our features stood out in the crowd, most people had black or brown hair with tan skin. some were like us, only a few though.

When we arrived at a shop that was a square gazebo made of wood, and floors made of concrete. The height was easily fifteen feet high and had a length of approximately fifty feet. Tables line the inside filled with a different type of weapons and armor, some accessories too. My eyes sparkled, causing Lauren to laugh. We saw men banging on metal, the forges were hot even from here. Being next to then and working on metal all day would be hard work. In the hustle and bustle, Lauren saw Lumin behind a table selling necklaces embedded with crystals wonder if they're special.

When she shouted toward him, he looked up confusingly scanning the surroundings looking for the source that called his name. He gave a smile and beckoned us with a wave. Fighting through throngs of people is not fun, elbows and shoves. People have no courtesy! We made it to where Lumin was behind the table after what seemed to be about five minutes.

" How're you guys doing? Like the place?" Lumin greeted us with a smile.

"It's different, to say the least," I said.

" The people here are so friendly," Lauren said, how are these people friendly, I swear I have a bruise on my right side.

" Glad you like our little town. Ah, I see you awakened your ability, which must mean Sera here is a helpless weakling. Am I right?" he gave a smug smile as he completed a transaction with a customer.

" No one can lay a hand on her with me here," Lumin gave a snicker as the next customer waited for him to bring out the item he wanted, a red dagger with engravings of vines on the blade.

" Where's my sword? I couldn't find it in my room," I asked.

" Oh, I had Stella melt the thing down, it was a hunk of metal anyway," my fist clenched and my breathing quickened, Clam down Sera. No need to kill a man over a sword.

" Calm down, Once he sees you build and fighting style he'll make you a new weapon," Lumin said putting his hands up in defeat.

" It's okay, I grew attached to the thing. I'll get over it. Now, why were we sent over to help you," I asked with my arms crossing my chest, I bet I looked like a little mafia leader.

" Well you won't be helping me, you're getting a job. And you start today, You can choose between becoming a blacksmith or manning the stands as I do. Lauren, down the street, should be the bakery I showed you earlier," Lumin said asking the customer to wait a moment.

"Okay, see you later Sera," before I had the chance to speak Lauren had already left leaving a cloud of dust behind her. She gets to work in a bakery while I get these shitty jobs.

" Are you kidding me, " knowing the answer already, I felt terrible.

" Of course I'm not, you have to work for your food and housing. You'll get some walking around cash as well. so what will it be; Stand or forge," he said giving the grumbling customer his goods.

I had to choose carefully working in the forge or standing around selling items. Forging was hot sweaty and tiresome work, I'm used to working but that doesn't mean I like it; an upside would be that I can forge my own weapons which is kind of cool. The other option, I would have to talk to people, standing around sorting and cleaning the wares, and making sure no one stole anything. There was more to both, but I said all the things I care about. Now is it not obvious, I hate dealing with people and sorting come to the hell on. I do those types of things, don't make me laugh. I still had to ask though.

" Which one pays more?" I asked while leaning my elbow on the tables.

" After taxes, living fees, and a few others, from manning the tables you get around seven dollars an hour and from forging fourteen dollars an hour or a set value on projects," he said barely paying attention to me.

" I'll run the forges," I said with determination laced on my face.

" You sure, there's a reason I don't have that job and why there are many positions open," he turned to face me.

" Yes!" my decision wouldn't be changed.

" Alright then, take over for me. I'll come in an hour I have to get the papers in order," he left waving while his back faced me.

" I guess I can't get out of this can I," my head was turned to the ground in depression.

" Miss, I have an order," a chubby man said while taping his shoe against the ground.

"I'm coming," my voice came out, more monotonous than I meant to.
