Secretary Ying Yue (2)

Fei Huangjin's phone had been buzzing for 5 minutes now. He was hoping that the person on the other end of the line would drop it with calling him but he knew his mother was as persistent as a coffee stain on white linen.

He sighed. He knew what these calls were about.

He put his phone on loudspeaker as he received the call. "Mother."

"Huangjin! Why don't you answer my calls, ah?" Lin Wenshun's voice filtered through the room, the woman's obvious irritation lacing her tone. "How could you disrespect your mother like this?"

"I know what you're calling for. I'm not going." Fei Huangjin knew that when it came to his mother, he had to be blunt and direct. She shared the same unreasonable persistence as that of Haocheng that only his father could diffuse. Now that he was gone, however, his mother channeled all her matchmaking skills to finding a girlfriend for him.

He had so many things to deal with at the company. And yet his mother wouldn't stop bugging him to bring home a woman. He was still 28 years old. He had time.

Lin Wenshun grunted in displeasure. "I'm not asking you to go on a date this time, I'm just asking you to have dinner with me! Is that so hard to do?" She purposefully made herself sound pitiful, hoping to guilt her eldest son into joining her for dinner with the Ye family.

He closed his eyes and sighed. "Mom, I know dinner with you will involve a female guest. Until you understand that I'm not interested in finding a woman, I won't be visiting you or having dinner with you."

She gasped. "Huangjin! You. You…"

The image of his younger brother Fei Haocheng came to mind, and he secretly snickered as an idea lit up in his head. "I'll send Haocheng over. You can set up a date for him."

"Your brother can't get married first. It would be a shame on you!"

Fei Huangjin sighed.

Just five minutes more to go and Ying Yue would get off work. She would go home, shower, and then report to Juyan. Maybe even get someone from the tech department to hack into another company that Fei International was having dealings with. And then maybe CEO Fei would give her a few days off if she was lucky. She'd been dying for a small vacation from her office work anyway. She would much rather focus on Juyan. She squealed at the thought.

Her intercom buzzed and a deep husky voice could be heard. "Miss Ying, in my office please."

Hoping this was her boss telling her she could go home already, she hurried over to his office and poked her head in to smile brightly at the man. "Yes, Mr. Fei?"

Fei Huang was going over a contract that needed to be signed when Ying Yue got in. He looked up at her and blinked several times before speaking. He appeared to be momentarily caught in a thought before he spoke to her. "Miss Ying, am I free tonight?"

"No, Mr. Fei. You are to attend the 7PM launching event organized by CEO Zhang at the west side of the city. You told him you'd come."

The three richest families in S city consisted of the Fei family, the Zhang family, and the Xiao family. The eldest son of each family had all taken over their family businesses and were called the Big 3. Of course, since they grew up together, they were also very good friends. Fei Huangjin couldn't miss such a big event as this one.

"Mmm." He was already poring over the contract he was holding, seemingly uninterested with her words.

She cocked her head to the side. Why did her boss call her over if he was just going to ignore her? "If that's all, Mr. Fei…"

"You will be accompanying me tonight." He signed the contract he was holding and held it out to her. She drifted closer and retrieved it carefully, wondering if she heard his words right.

"Pardon?" Ying Yue blinked several times, unsure if she heard it right.

"Accompany me tonight. I'm tired. I need you there to socialize with me." The truth was, she wasn't really needed at the party. He called her over to his office to dismiss her for the day, but when she came in peeking at the door, Fei Huangjin suddenly recalled the last event they went to. It was an auction held months ago. Ying Yue had aptly pointed out to him every piece of valuable item that was worth investing in, and even gave a brief background on the history of each piece. He was impressed. But he had a bad headache today and wasn't in the mood to socialize, so he might as well bring her in.

Ying Yue fidgeted with the paper she was holding and narrowed her eyes at him. "Mr. Fei, I apologize, but as stipulated in our contract, I can't work overtime at night during weekdays…" She had this specific condition put in the contract before she signed because she didn't want her daytime job to interfere on her spy work at Juyan.

He wondered if she had a boyfriend or family she needed to take care of that took up her nights. Fei Huangjin frowned, and for some reason he found himself annoyed over this.

"Oh," he paused, "but I also recall that our contract stated you can work overtime once in two weeks, and frankly Miss Ying, it has been over 2 months since I've last asked you to work overtime for me." He said his words coldly and yet very gracefully, without even looking up at her. He busied himself with browsing through some documents on his desk.

She sighed. He had a point. If only her pay as his secretary wasn't that big, she'd refuse him flat out. But Ying Yue was paid three times the usual salary of an executive secretary. Now she had to call Big Boss at the agency and tell him she couldn't come in tonight. "Yes, Mr. Fei. I will arrange my schedule for tonight."

Ying Yue left the office with a pout.
