"Be careful." Fei Huangjin held her steady as she stepped onto the boat. Ying Yue walked briskly to the front, dragging Fei Huangjin behind her.
When she felt like he was walking too slow, she pulled him harder. This woman… she was in heels and the flooring was wet and slippery. She should really be slowing down.
They got to the front of the boat with the breeze getting stronger and cooler. She turned to him with a genuine smile, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "Let's sit down over here."
"Wait," seeing that the surface was wet and dirty, Fei Huangjin took off his suit and laid it for them to sit down.
"Thank you." Ying Yue almost couldn't believe her eyes and wanted to laugh at him. Her cold, domineering CEO boss who was often a neat freak had actually laid down his suit for her. Perhaps he really wasn't that cold on the inside.
The boat had moved forward, and Fei Huangjin's attention was already directed elsewhere. He was staring at a few men who were trailing the riverside in search of them. These people were really serious about getting the girl. If his date tonight with Ying Yue wasn't enough of a message for Wang Longwei, he'd need to have Dragon Club pay a visit to the man.
Ying Yue followed his line of sight to the riverside and she sighed in satisfaction.
"Tell me about Juyan." His voice was somber, and it made her glance at him questioningly.
Fei Huangjin still had his eyes on the riverside, but the expression on his face was unreadable. It was the same one he used when listening to project proposals and investment deals. It was a poker face meant to intimidate people and make them second-guess themselves. It was also the same one he used when he interviewed her.
Although Ying Yue had always been immune to it, she couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking at that moment.
She cleared her throat. "Well, I work there."
"Obviously," he scoffed, "tell me why."
Ying Yue was silent for a while. Her hair was billowing in the strong wind. "I lost everything when I turned eighteen. You already know that." Her eyes became distant, and she turned away to look at the distance. "Juyan took me in so it's been my home ever since."
"How did you get there?"
"Big Boss picked me up when I had nowhere to go. He took me in like I was family. I was already trained to protect myself when I was a kid, so it didn't take much for them to turn me into a spy." She'd excelled at the trainings she underwent and learned everything as quickly as she could. She wanted to make Ying Shen proud, even if he wasn't there to see her anymore.
"Don't you want to get out?"
She turned to him at the question. "From Juyan? No. Of course not."
Fei Huangjin frowned. If she'd been at Juyan since she was eighteen, that meant she'd spent six long years of her life there. Surely, she should have plans of getting out and living a normal life. "I know you have blind loyalty to Juyan, but don't you want to fulfill your childhood ambitions?"
"My ambitions are different now." Ying Yue raised her chin in defiance.
"Oh?" He gave her a mocking smile, "You want to forever be stuck as a secretary at day and a spy at night -- is that it?"
"I have plans." Her tone made it seem like she didn't want to pursue the conversation even further and Fei Huangjin pursed his lips to stop himself from pushing the topic.
"How about the Jade Circle?"
"What about them?" Ying Yue let out a sigh as she realized that Fei Huangjin was asking too many questions for her liking. She still couldn't trust him enough to tell him about her brother, so explaining to him thoroughly about Jade Circle's business with her was out of the question. Unfortunately, she couldn't lie too blatantly, either. The man was too smart for that. "I'm the top agent at Juyan. I know something against Jade Circle so they're trying to hunt me down. Somehow, my identity was leaked and we're not sure how."
Fei Huangjin ran a hand through his already-messed up hair that was swaying along to the breeze. He could tell she wasn't going much into the details, but he didn't mind and didn't push her. He cocked his head at her, curling his lips. "Do you know something about Dragon Club and Fei International, too?"
Ying Yue flashed him a look. "If I do, are you going to hunt me down, too?"
"No." His shoulder touched hers and he looked down on her. "You're already right where I want you to be."
She turned an eyebrow upward, her cheeks becoming warm from his words. It was a good thing they were out in the water at nighttime, otherwise, he would see two blotches of red on either side of her face.
The boat slowed to a stop at the middle of the river and a net was cast on one side.
Ying Yue narrowed her eyes to help herself get accustomed to the dimness of their surroundings. She turned to Fei Huangjin, who was now looking up at the sky, leaning back on one elbow. Even under the moonlight, his features were still obviously a work of perfection. The bridge of his nose and the thickness of his eyebrows did nothing but accentuate the sharpness of his jaw.
It wasn't a wonder why women threw themselves at him.
The net that was cast a while ago was already being pulled up, and the smell of fish assaulted their noses.
"Argh, shit." Fei Huangjin sat up and covered his nose. "Remind me again why we had to ride in this thing." He groaned out loud and cursed a few words. He had been through rigorous training since he was a kid. But never had he been subjected to stay in a fishing boat, with stinking fishes, nonetheless.
Ying Yue giggled at the sight of him struggling to keep himself together. It seems that no one was truly perfect at all.
