Ying Yue glanced as the door creaked open.
The head of the Productions Team came out of CEO Fei's office with a hunched back and a defeated look on his face. The clean and pristine-looking papers he had held on to just 5 minutes ago were now crumpled and dirty, looking like the man inside the office had crumpled and stepped on them.
She sighed.
For the rest of the afternoon, Ying Yue had been making excuses not to see Fei Huangjin. Instead of gladly taking documents to be signed from the managers and other executives, Ying Yue told them to go ahead and knock on CEO Fei's door.
Each and every one of them either came out angry, depressed, or crying. She shook her head helplessly and carried on with her work.
The memory of their awkward lunch date and the flash of disappointment he saw in his eyes when they were walking back to the company was gravely ingrained in her mind.
She shouldn't think too much of it, but it might be the reason for his foul mood right now.
It was almost four o'clock in the afternoon. Biting her lip, she stood up and headed to the staff break room to brew coffee for the man.
When the coffee was ready, she poured the brown liquid into two mugs: one for herself and one for Fei Huangjin. She was about to put cream into one of the mugs when a hand rested on her shoulder.
Out of reflex, she pivoted and took hold of the hand, twisting it into a pin. The man was strong though, and he grunted in surprise but didn't move. When she looked up at his face, she let out a small yelp and released him as she found Xi Shenghui giving her an exasperated look.
One of her hands came up to cover her mouth. "Why are you here?"
"You already know why." He stared at her blankly until realization dawned on her.
The call last night… Xi Shenghui said one of the men from the phoenix team was to go undercover to protect her at Fei International. But he never said it was going to be him.
She frowned, "Why is it you?"
"I'm the most capable one." He answered defensively.
She flashed him a disbelieving look. Ying Yue turned her back on him as she continued to put cream in the mug that was meant for her. She took a sip of the coffee and she gradually felt her mind clear up. "Where are you assigned?"
"Finance."
She glanced at him with a horrified look. "Do you even know anything about finance?"
He seemed unfazed by her reaction and just shrugged. He wanted to tell her he had studied finance before getting into the military, but he stopped himself before he could. She was someone he had to protect. She didn't need to know that.
Ying Yue picked up the two mugs on the counter. "Well, if you run into any problems, you can call me." She left him with a pointed look.
Xi Shenghui watched her walk away from him, her hips swaying like she was on the catwalk rather than in the company. The woman was like a wildcat --- a pretty wildcat, he thought.

Fei Huangjin was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window on one side of his office when his secretary came in. She was carrying a steaming mug carefully with both hands.
"Your coffee." She sashayed all the way to his desk and placed the mug at a spot in between the piles of documents.
"Sit."
"I'm sorry?" She looked at him, unsure of what he wanted her to do.
Fei Huangjin walked over and sat behind his desk, pulling his coffee closer. "Sit down."
"I still have work to do, Huangjin," she reasoned, leaning her hip against his desk.
"Are you avoiding me?"
"No." She said the word immediately, and her face reddened in guilt.
He took a sip out of his mug and sighed. This woman was really quite difficult to deal with. Since their lunch, he'd been thinking of ways to talk to her gently, but he'd always been a direct person, so he might as well just say it directly.
"Just stay with me. Okay?"
Ying Yue's lip quivered.
The words he said were unromantic and blatantly honest that she couldn't help but feel a prick in her heart. For a while, none of them moved and a deafening silence stretched between them like an ocean on summer's day.
"Okay," she whispered.
She had already made the decision to stay with him, and Fei Huangjin could barely conceal the elation threatening to bubble up inside him
They looked at each other and smiled.
The door then suddenly opened and in came Zhang Zihan in a bright blue suit with sunglasses to cover his eyes. "Secretary Ying! I was looking for you outside." He said with a bright smile.
