Marry me

"You're insane," she admonished.

"I am a lot of things but my mind is perfectly fine."

"Are you even serious right now?" She blinked repeatedly. Maybe if she blinked enough times, she'd wake up from this very odd situation and realize that it was all just a dream.

"There are a lot of things I am serious about, Ying Yue. I'm serious about work, I'm serious about our relationship, and I'm definitely serious with wanting to marry you." He clicked his tongue and drew himself closer to her.

There were some things that people couldn't explain. Fei Huangjin couldn't explain how the world came to be, and he definitely couldn't explain the unusual attraction between him and his little piglet of a secretary. At first, when he hired her, he thought it was physical attraction, but the more time he spent with her, the more he liked her intelligence and enjoyed that sassy mouth of hers. And when she disappeared, he could barely function. It was like he was connected to her.

She couldn't help but feel like Fei Huangjin was brought up to demand things from people. First, he demanded her to be his girlfriend. And now, he was demanding her to marry him. "We can't get married just because you feel the need to protect me."

She was really making it difficult for him to persuade her. Fei Huangjin pursed his lips in thought for a while before a ghost of a smile touched his lips. "Perhaps not, but we can get married because I like you, because I get muddle-headed without a vixen called Ying Yue by my side, and because this little vixen likes me, too."

Her face started getting warm, and it wasn't long before she looked like a tomato that was ripe for the picking. "You…" She couldn't get the words out; mainly because she couldn't deny his statement or refute his words.

Fei Huangjin took another step closer, pulling her in to his embrace, and he anchored his chin on top of her head in an affectionate way. He was never a hugger or anything like that since he was young, but with this woman, it was the opposite. He found that he quite couldn't keep his hands off her. Thankfully, she didn't resist him at this crucial time. "Marry me." He whispered.

Ying Yue blinked. Marry me -- those two words rendered her speechless. Because even if she was the kind of person who planned ahead, she never planned as far ahead as marrying someone. Ever since she joined Juyan, she had given up on that normalcy. Part of being a spy was to make sure you weren't tied down.

But now, she had a shot of living the life she wanted before reality got in the way. She could marry the man she liked, get rid of the Jade Circle with him, probably even go ahead with that scholarship he offered earlier so she can finally get her degree. A spark of hope got ignited deep within her as she thought of it. It sounded so… perfect.

However, it sounded too perfect.

Ying Yue gently pulled away from him, and she leaned against the kitchen counter with her eyes trained on the ground. "Let me think about it."

The man across her pursed his lips in frustration as he watched her try to make sense of things. There wasn't anything to analyze, really. He liked her, she liked him, he couldn't stand being apart with her, and he was offering her everything she wanted in exchange with marriage. That wasn't a bad deal, was it?

However, he had to put himself in her shoes. What exactly was holding her back?

Fei Huangjin glanced at her downturned lips and wondered if she was doubting him or thinking that it all seemed surreal. He thought carefully until he recalled something he learned and was fascinated by as a child. "How did you do in physics?"

The question was so out-of-topic that Ying Yue lifted up her head in surprise. "What?"

"Just go along with me." He had a deep look in his eyes that you couldn't look away from. "How did you do in physics?"

She rolled her eyes. "I was an accelerated straight-A student. How do you think I did?"

He nodded, satisfied with her answer. "Well then, do you still remember the phenomenon of quantum entanglement?"

Ying Yue frowned, a bit bewildered at the turn of events. Were they seriously going to discuss physics right now?
