"Ying Shen left me with Big Boss and I've been in Juyan ever since. It wasn't until recently that we found out my identity's been compromised, which is why Jade Circle is after me now." Ying Yue sighed and raised a hand to her head to massage her temples. Explaining her predicament was more tiring than she thought it would be.
Fei Huangjin frowned thoughtfully. He was sure he had never heard the name Ying Shen before, but why did her brother seem familiar?
"Where are the documents?" Fei Huangjin asked. Her brother was right. In the right hands, if those documents were really what he said them to be, no blood shed would be needed to annihilate them. The same went for Dragon Club if the situation was reversed.
Lucky for her, he had the right hand to deal with it.
Her voice trembled slightly and she bit her lip in an effort to keep herself calm. "It's been six years, and I-- I don't know."
"You don't know?" He raised a brow. She better not be kidding him. Those documents would guarantee her safety more than he ever could. He may be able to keep her safe as long as she stays by his side, but who knows when Wang Longwei would go back on his word? "You're his sister. You're bound to know something. If you used those documents wisely, you wouldn't be in a twist over when the Jade Circle would be coming to get you."
As if she didn't already know that. Ying Yue didn't like the trace of doubt in his tone and she eyed him angrily. "I said I don't know where it is. Why do you think I was gone for a few days? I was looking for clues to its whereabouts."
"That's why you disappeared on me?"
She nodded.
Silence ensued, and Fei Huangjin felt slightly at a loss of what to say. The way she pursed her lips together into a pout told him she was a bit upset. However, he was never really good in comforting anyone. The most he ever did when Haocheng was upset was to feed him wagyu beef until he would shut up. He surely couldn't treat Ying Yue the same way, though. Or perhaps he could if the circumstances allowed it; after all, she was a little piglet. But the circumstances of this situation certainly didn't allow that to happen.
"What…" He started to say, cringing at the only question he could think of right now. "What do you want me to do?"
Her eyebrows rose up in reply. "Nothing."
"Nothing?" He looked at her incredulously.
"I told you this so you would understand the situation I'm in. Not to ask you to do things for me." Her clear eyes betrayed some stubbornness in them as she glared at him. Then, she walked past him to take the photo frame, locking it back in the safe.
Fei Huangjin couldn't help but blow out a breath of frustration and he became slightly aggrieved at the way she was acting. "Don't underestimate who I am and what I can do, Ying Yue. The fact that it's been six years and you still don't know where those documents are, tells me that you're at a standstill. Unfortunately for you, Jade Circle is getting bigger and stronger, and they know who you are, which means that you're on quicksand. You'll sink by just staying still and you'll sink by trying to get out of it alone. You need someone to help you."
"What are you saying?" She stood up and keyed in another set of numbers that made the compartments fold in on themselves, hiding themselves completely under all the clothes and pretty things in her closet.
Fei Huangjin followed her as she took off from the closet and headed out of the bedroom towards the kitchen. "I'm saying that I'm the best gambling chip you've got. I can protect you from Jade Circle. I can find those documents for you. And I am the only one who knows how to deal with those documents once you get them."
Ying Yue was getting a cup of water when she momentarily stilled at his words, and she angled her body to face him properly as she thought about what he said. He was right. Dragon Club could protect her and Fei Huangjin had the authority and the resources to deal with the documents. If she thought about it, Jade Circle surely had connections in politics and even with the police. By handling it herself, she might be giving the documents to the wrong hands. But if Fei Huangjin handled it... "Okay then."
He held back a smile as she watched the emotions on her face transition from doubt to acceptance. "I only have one condition."
Her lips parted in annoyance as she looked up at his imposing height. "What is it?"
"Marry me."
