That's not why I'm with her

Fei Huangjin closed the door behind him and sat down opposite his grandfather in his study. He seemed older than the last time he saw him. The wrinkles around his eyes were more prominent, and his graying hair had almost taken over his entire head.

"That girl, who exactly is she?" Old master Fei directed his sharp eyes at him, with a look that he usually reserved for talking business.

The younger man's lips pursed, and he sat back with an eyebrow raised. "Since you're asking me that, grandfather, it seems you know more than you let on. Why don't you tell me what you know and I'll fill in the gaps for you."

This brat…. Grandpa Fei's mouth twisted into what looked like a pout. His grandson had always been smart even as a young child. It was something he was proud of, but now also something that frustrated him. "I heard her father was in the Special Forces and that she's quite the intelligent lady. A pity that she didn't finish her schooling."

"Go on."

He eyed his grandson carefully, cautious with his words. "Why is the Jade Circle after her?"

Fei Huangjin stilled for a second, looking up thoughtfully before smirking at his grandfather's question. He should've known that the old man would be doing his own background check on Ying Yue. "She's not just my secretary, she's the top spy agent of Juyan." He couldn't tell him about her brother. However, the fact that she was from Juyan can be reason enough for the syndicate to be after her. "Her identity's been compromised."

Old master Fei pondered at this new piece of information for a moment. He wasn't sure if it was a good thing for Huangjin to be in involved in this. "Is that why you're with that woman? To help her?"

The way his grandfather phrased the question irked him a bit, and a cold look flashed on his face. "That woman has a name -- and her name is Ying Yue. And to answer your question, no, that's not why I'm with her. I sure don't need to explain to you why I like her, do I?"

Although the old man disapproved of his grandson's tone, he was satisfied with his reply. "It is better to ask and hear the answer from you. I never asked your father, and look how your parents' marriage ended up."

"Mmm."

"The Jade Circle won't be easy to deal with. They've grown bigger in the recent years." Old master Fei looked away. Despite his old age, he still constantly received news from his former subordinates and friends. Like him, they were retired, but that didn't stop them from discussing about the underworld or occasionally playing around with it.

"I know." Fei Huangjin sighed. He was the mountain master of the Dragon Club -- of course he knew these things.

"Have you found out who their vanguard is yet?"

His brows furrowed at his grandfather's question. A few years ago, the Jade Circle had reportedly changed vanguards, and whoever that man was, he had elevated the status of the syndicate group and expanded it across the country.

Until now, they still haven't figured out who the new vanguard was. "Our mole in the Jade Circle still has no clue about it. The higher-ups are said to be keeping his identity quiet. In fact, whoever it is doesn't even seem to visit their headquarters."

The old man nodded. "You should take care of that right away. You can't protect your woman without knowing who the enemy is."

"Is that your way of telling me you approve of her?"

His grandfather's lips thinned in exasperation. "If I don't approve of her, would you be willing to swap her for someone else? You brat. We've been forcing you to date for years. Your grandmother is over-the-roof that you've finally found a woman. She thinks it's a miracle. I don't want to disappoint my wife."

"You've grown softer these days." Fei Huangjin became amused at his grandfather's words and gave a short laugh. "I want to marry her."

"Then go ask her. Why are you looking at me?"

"I already have." He said frustratingly. "She hasn't given me an answer yet."

"Then ask again. Use your common sense, boy."

Easy for him to say. Fei Huangjin scratched his chin in annoyance.
