Easy there

The serious look on Fei Huangjin's face made her purse her lips in silence. Why was he such a killjoy in here?

He sighed. "There's only one hidden compartment in here." He took her hand and half-dragged her all the way to the other side of the room, where Fei Huangjin touched the wall gently. It slid to one side, revealing a metal case buried there.

"What's that?"

"Years ago, my grandfather used this is a storage for his love letters with my grandmother. When my father took over, he chose not to use it -- even for other purposes. There's also one in Bunker 2, but without a proper locking system, I can't find any use for it either." Fei Huangjin took his sweet time opening it, and Ying Yue couldn't help but feel impatient. Her hands were itching to take over.

She pursed her lips in frustration. If he wasn't going to hurry up in three seconds, she was going to open the case herself.

1…

2…

3.

Ying Yue swept his hand away and stepped forward, surprising and amusing Fei Huangjin both at the same time. She tugged at the metal case and frowned. It seemed stuck. She pulled even harder, and thankfully was able to pull it out successfully in one go. However, the force of her pull outdid her weight, and she felt herself falling backwards with the metal case in hand. "Ah!"

Warm hands and a strong wall caught her in time. "Easy there."

Her cheeks reddened as she mumbled her thanks.

Ying Yue held the case against her chest. The whole thing was finally pulled out. Without wasting another minute, she got down on her knees and started tinkling with the case. She flipped it over, pushing at one side until the other end slid open.

Her chest tightened in anticipation. It was like she could hardly breathe. Ying Yue's fingers started shaking lightly against the box.

Fei Huangjin held out his arms to support her quivering state, and his hands enveloped hers until they stilled. She looked up at him and saw the gentleness in his eyes as he gave her an encouraging nod. It was then that she knew that no matter what happened, she'd have him.

How could any woman resist this man?

She couldn't help it, she lifted herself slightly off the floor to plant a chaste kiss on his nose. Her sudden movement surprised him, but warmed him all the same. She turned back to the case and slid it fully open.

There was no pile of documents inside. There was only a single, white but yellowing, envelope. Ying Yue frowned, confused. She felt her throat close in on her, as if it was dashing out the hope she had at that moment. Picking it up carefully, she looked for her name on it.

But it wasn't her name on it.

The letter was addressed to Fei Yangcheng. The flimsy envelope left her hands and fluttered to the ground like a dried-up leaf falling from a tree.

"No." She whispered. Her eyes tearing up. "No, no, no." She checked the box again for any other letter left there. Ying Yue stood up and stared at the empty portion of the wall where the case was and shook her head at it. No, Ying Shen should have left something for her here. It should be here.

A lone tear escaped the corner of one eye and spilled over her cheeks like the melting wax of a burning candle.

"No…" Her mind was in turmoil, and she started going around the room looking for any other compartment where her brother's stash might be. Ying Yue opened and closed drawers and built-in shelves, checked under the anchored seats and tables.

Another tear spilled over her cheek.

She touched all the wall panels in case something was hidden in them and walked back to where she left the metal case, shaking it, and closing and opening it again. A sharp cry spilled from her lips, and her knees shook.
