Where were the documents

There was no movement from Fei Huangjin even as he finished reading the letter twice. The study was enveloped in silence, and even his breathing couldn't be heard in the stillness of the night. Only the chirping of the cicadas outside were barely audible at that moment.

No wonder there were no records of anyone staying at Mike-8927. Ying Shen was a double agent and an important man to Fei Yangcheng. In other words, he was too important to be kept in writing.

Furthermore, no one other than his father and his most trusted man could enter that bunker, which meant that only Ying Shen and Fei Yangcheng could have gotten inside. The letter had obviously been read before. So where were the documents, and why didn't his father make use of it to usurp the competing syndicate?

He pursed his lips. Ying Shen had said in the letter, "I know that I have no right to ask any favors from you, especially after I insisted to leave the Dragon Club." The most important rule in the syndicate was that once you were in, there was no going out.

Leaving equated to betrayal.

Fei Yangcheng was never an easy man to get along with, and betrayal was his bottom line. Huangjin could imagine the tantrum his father must have thrown when his right-hand man had asked to leave the syndicate. He would've thrown one too, if Guan Ting did the same thing.

He doubted his father would have forgiven Ying Shen.

He pondered this for a moment until his fingers curled into a ball.

Bang!

Fei Huangjin slammed his fist on the desk, shaking with an impenetrable fury. He had a feeling that his father had those documents but didn't act on them, as payback for Ying Shen's betrayal.

As much as he wanted to let Ying Yue read the letter, he couldn't. He couldn't hurt her like that without figuring out the truth first.

He had to investigate the matter before telling her anything.

Ying Yue stirred, opening her eyes to an unfamiliar room.

She sat up, rubbing at her eyes groggily, looking around in alarm through the dim lighting as it all came back to her. Ying Shen's room. The bunker. She pushed away the covers, jumping off the bed.

However, the suddenness of her movements made her miscalculate, and her foot was caught in the covers, sending her tumbling down to the carpeted floor.

"Ah!" Ying Yue gathered herself and sat on the floor, tears beading at the edges of her eyelids.

There was the sound of faint footsteps running up the stairs, and then the oakwood door to the room was abruptly opened, revealing a panting Fei Huangjin, his eyes darting around the room until they landed on her.

"Ying Yue…" In a split second, he was at her side. "What happened? Are you okay?"

The sight of him put her at ease, calming the storm raging inside her.

Fei Huangjin lifted a hand to her cheek as he examined her face. She closed her eyes and leaned into his touch.

"I'm okay." Her voice was a little hoarse, and then she felt a slight burn in her stomach that made her gaze at him with a pout. "I'm hungry."

He sighed with a smile, pulling her up. "There's food waiting for you downstairs."

Fei Huangjin led her out the bedroom, and she managed to tinge pink with the thought of having fallen asleep on his bed. "What time is it?"

"Nine."

"In the evening?" She exclaimed incredulously.

"Mmm."

"Why the hell didn't you wake me up?"

"You seemed tired," he chided, putting a hand on her head to pat her there gently. It made her feel like a kid. "Dr. Li said you needed rest."

She didn't say anything and just frowned. The lingering thoughts of Ying Shen were still fresh in her mind; she just tamped it to the back of her head so she could think clearer.
