Fei Huangjin felt exhausted as he hung up the phone from a call with Guan Ting. The man said that there were really no records of Ying Shen in the Dragon Club database, but with Fei Huangjin's description of him, the older members were able to identify those looks as the one "who was always with the master." He had suddenly gone in with the master one day, they said. No one had known his name and he rarely interacted with anyone else other than Fei Yangcheng.
Nothing was going right lately, and things were getting more confusing as it was. Moreover, he probably shouldn't have tried to keep the letter from her. His mouth drew into a thin line as a look of exasperation crossed his face. The timber had been turned into a boat already [1].
Ying Yue found the dining table cleaned spotless, and she turned to the kitchen to find it empty. Fei Huangjin's slippers weren't by the door, so she was sure that he was somewhere in the house. She turned to the ground floor hall and stalked to the door at the end.
She found him standing by the floor to ceiling windows of his study, looking out of the glass like he was entranced by the scenery.
She walked even faster towards him.
He was broken out of his reverie when he heard quiet footsteps on the floor. But before he could turn around, a lithe set of arms circled around his waist, and a warm body clung to his back like a koala bear hugging a tree. There was a flash of surprise on his face that quickly melted down into a calm smile.
It was one of the rare times she took the initiative to get closer to him, and damn did it feel good.
Fei Huangjin tried to face her, but she tightened her hold on him and buried her face deeper against his back. He sighed and put his hands over hers reassuringly. At least he knew she was willing to work things out and not disappear again to solve things on her own.
"Your father…" she whispered. She said the words too quietly that Fei Huangjin wasn't sure he heard it right.
"Pardon me?"
She swallowed and started off what she was about to say from another angle. "Over a year ago, Big Boss made me submit my application to Fei International."
He didn't understand what she was getting at. A confused frown marred his eyebrows as he nodded. "And it was a good thing he did--"
"He did it because your father asked him to."
"My father?" Fei Huangjin turned around abruptly, prompting her to drop her arms from around him as she stared up at him with an unreadable expression. "What do you mean?" He asked.
"Your father asked Big Boss to let me apply to Fei International. He looked for me at Juyan before he died." Her eyes began to shine with a bit of hope as she gazed at him unblinking. Even her voice pitched up higher. "That meant he was fulfilling Ying Shen's last request. He must've wanted me to meet you. He probably knew I'd figure out the truth if I worked at your company. We just have to find the documents now."
Fei Yangcheng -- that brute of a man -- looked for her? "How do you know this?"
"Big Boss told me." Her bright eyes were so open, that he could see through them with ease, at the eagerness and hope that blossomed underneath her tough exterior. "So the documents…"
There was something questionable amidst all of it. How does a young man like Ying Shen end up at the Dragon Club without any records of going through the initiation, and why was his identity protected by Fei Yangcheng? Furthermore, although his father valued loyalty, he was also very ruthless and cruel -- even to his own son. How does that kind of man turn into someone who would look for the sister of someone he used to trust? There had to be a reason why he was invested in Ying Shen.
He thought of something, but he quickly dismissed it as soon as it crossed his mind.
"I've asked Guan Ting to look into where the documents could be. Right now he's gathered all the old members who were around at the base as far back as six to seven years ago."
