You answer my questions

Song Yinan frowned, but after a while, he nodded. Come to think of it, he was getting more in the bargain than she was, so who was he to complain? Who wouldn't like to be in situations that would benefit them? Definitely not him. He was a businessman, after all.

"How did you become the heir to the Song family? And how did you get your name?" Her poker face was exquisite. You couldn't tell what she was thinking even though her eyes were bright and clear, and staring straight at him like she was looking into his soul.

"A few years ago, I got into some accident of some sort. I couldn't remember who I was or where I was from. It was Director Su's father and his friend, Song Qi, who found me. Father-- Mr. Song, didn't have children of his own and wanted to adopt me, but as we both know, you can't get adopted when you're past the age of 19, and I didn't look like I was anywhere near that age." Song Yinan looked away, remembering that moment like it was only yesterday. "Anyway, father took me in, and since I didn't know who I was, he gave me a name, a birthday, and even sent me to university."

Ying Yue gulped. "When did this happen?"

"Why are you asking these things?"

"Our deal is that you answer my questions, Mr. Song. Not the other way around." Her poker face didn't budge.

After staring back at her in silence, he sighed. "About 5 or 6 years ago. The birthdate they gave me -- December 20 -- was the day I was found. They just chose a random year to fit my age based on how I look and had it registered."

His story fit the timeline too well. Maybe Xi Shenghui was right. Maybe Song Yinan was really Ying Shen minus his memories. "You said the Song family sent you to university…"

"Mmm."

"So you remembered the basics of education, but not your past?" She probed.

"Yes." He tapped a finger on the table several times before expounding. "I don't have any memories of my past. But yes, I can solve math and even remember Chinese history. Father got me in to university and I finished my business program in less than three years."

The hairs on her back stood on end. "And how did you end up at Changsu?"

"I took care of my father's agricultural business after graduating, but Su Jianjun asked me to take care of Changsu's operations. I couldn't refuse. He's my only friend and he's the only one -- was the only one -- who knew about my situation." He smiled slightly at that. "He only asked that I stay on for a year to improve the company. After that, I'll be going back to B city so I can help my father out. He's already in his sixties. He's retiring soon."

Ying Yue felt a slight ache in her heart as she listened to him talk about his 'father.' If he was indeed Ying Shen, it was a good thing he found people who took care of him at his lowest. As his sister, she wasn't even there for him. Moreover, all this time she had expected him to be dead. She didn't even try to consider the possibility that he was alive until she was confronted with Song Yinan hinself. "That's… that's great." She whispered.

Perhaps she'd misunderstood Si Jianjun. With the way Song Yinan talked about him, Su Jianjun seemed to genuinely care for him, and for Changsu.

Song Yinan checked his watch. "If there's nothing more, Miss Ying, I have an inspection to do at the warehouse this morning, so I'll have to cut our meeting short. Allow me to make it up to you with a meal some other time."

"Yes. Yes, of course." She stood up as he did, and he opened the door for her to exit first.

An idea came to her like a light bulb turning on inside her head, and as she slipped past the door, her stiletto heels slid sideways and she let out a small squeal as her body was drawn backwards by gravity. Her arms were trying to grab on to anything she could, and she ended up grabbing at Song Yinan's head and neck when he leapt forward to support her.

"Ow, I think you pulled a bit of my hair." Song Yinan grimaced as he gently set her on her feet.
