Like dinner with a particular woman

There was a knock on Song Yinan's door, but before he could say anything, it opened to reveal Su Jianjun's confident smile as he wafted into the office and sat down.

The man behind the desk wasn't surprised at all. He knew Su Jianjun had a bad habit of thinking he owned everything, including everyone's time and space. "Jianjun."

"Yinan, Yinan, Yinan…" He chuckled. "I heard Miss Yue came to see you today."

"And what about it?" Song Yinan proceeded to work on correcting some drafts of their would-be proposal. Ever since he woke up years ago not knowing who he really was, he'd thrown himself into learning things as fast as he could and to work as diligently as possible. As the Su family had close ties with the Song's, it was Su Jianjun who stuck with him when he was trying to figure out a place for himself. That was why, even if Su Jianjun's mysterious words occasionally got to him, he had respect for the man.

Su Jianjun's grin stretched all the way to either side of his face. "So what was she here for?" Seeing that he didn't answer the question, he poked even further into the issue. "Let me guess, was she curious about you? Did she ask about your past? I'm pretty sure she wasn't here solely for business since she didn't even bother to look for me."

Song Yinan's fountain pen stopped in the middle of his signature as his mind wandered over what he'd just realized. How did Su Jianjun know she'd asked about his past? Did he know something that he didn't? The ink of his pen blotted on the paper. And when he noticed it, it was already too late.

He put down the pen and focused his gaze on Su Jianjun instead. "Yes, she did ask about that. Do you know something that I don't?"

Hearing this, Su Jianjun leaned forward, a mischievous smile gracing his lips that was starkly different from the softness of his features. The man stood up and whistled on his way to exit the room. "I know a lot of things, Yinan. But don't you worry, since you've been searching a lot about your past, perhaps you'll find something soon."

Song Yinan blinked at this as he tried to read between the lines.

Before he closed the door behind him, Su Jianjun turned to him one last time, his eyes twinkling. "I'll tell father you won't be able to see him tomorrow with me. You might want to be someplace else."

"Someplace else?"

"Like dinner with a particular woman." He winked.

The room was finally quiet without Su Jianjun's presence, and Song Yinan pondered over what the man said before he left. His eyes travelled over the document he was perusing earlier, until he focused on the blotted spot of black ink.

He pressed the intercom to call for his secretary. "Please contact Fei International and get me Miss Ying Yue's phone number." He paused. "And get me a reservation at a good restaurant for tomorrow night."

The days had gone by without any word from Fei Huangjin, and Ying Yue started to blank out from work as she stared at his office door. The earlier attempt to call him stuck in her mind, and right now, she was in a roller coaster of emotions.

Should she get Mo Yiling to find him? Should she book a flight to the Philippines? Should she visit the Dragon Club headquarters? Her mind was reeling, and she felt gravely uncomfortable.

Before she could decide what to do, her phone rang. There was an unknown number on the screen, and her eyes sparkled in anticipation as she pressed to answer the call. "Huangjin?"

Song Yinan was taken aback. He didn't expect her to call out someone else's name instead of a chaste hello. "Uh, I'm afraid not. This is Song Yinan, Miss Ying. I had my secretary contact Fei International for permission to get your phone number."

Ying Yue swallowed the bitter disappointment that she felt. "Oh, Mr. Song."

"I called to apologize about cutting our meeting short earlier. I was hoping you could join me for dinner tomorrow." He felt himself hesitate the moment she answered, and so he rushed to get the words out before he'd back out of it.

She paused, wondering if this was real. "Tomorrow?"

"Uh, yes."

It seemed like she had to put off the plans to find Huangjin, after all. Recalling Xi Shenghui's reprimands earlier, her lips pursed and she made a mental note to tell him she'd be meeting up with Song Yinan. "Of course. Send me the time and place. I'll have someone to drive me over."
