Ying Yue gathered her things as quickly as she could. It was already five in the afternoon, and she was going to meet Song Yinan for dinner.
Her phone buzzed in her purse when she got to the company lobby, and she took it out, elated to see Mo Yiling's name on the screen. Pink lips curved upwards as she answered the call. "Hey genius."
There was a sigh, and she could almost picture him scratching his head in exasperation. "Stop calling me that," he grumbled. "Anyway, the sibling DNA test results are out and I've forwarded the results to Xi Shenghui. He'll be there soon."
There was a slight pricking feeling in her heart as she thought about getting the results. If Song Yinan was really Ying Shen, she'd be the happiest person alive. If not, well, she was sure she'd be more than just disappointed after getting used to the hope he had evoked in her. Her footsteps slowed as she reached the entrance to the company. "Have you…" Her voice cracked a little and she cleared her throat to sound more confident. "Have you opened the results yet?"
Mo Yiling chuckled. "The envelope is sealed. It would be better for you to open it first."
A wistful but happy expression crossed her face. Mo Yiling had always taken her side all these years, even doing her favors whenever she needed them. She was grateful. "Thanks, Yiling. I'll drop by with food for you one of these days."
"You better."
She smiled and put down the phone. It wasn't long before she caught sight of Xi Shenghui at the corner of her eye. His usual expressionless face was present, and he poked his head out of the car as he held up a hand to signal that he was waiting for her.
She got in the passenger seat instantly.
Xi Shenghui pulled the car away from the company. But just a few seconds into the drive, he felt like Ying Yue was observing him, and he turned to see her expectant face staring at him without trying to hide it. He raised his brows at her questioningly.
"Don't you have anything to give me?" She demanded.
His face was a mix of emotions. It went from confusion, to understanding, before settling in to one of amusement. One of his hands remained on the steering wheel as he rifled through the center compartment, pulling out a white envelope and holding it out to her.
With a grin, she grabbed it off his hands as quickly as she could and stared at it with glee.
Her obvious excitement dimmed a little when she stared at it. "Did you open the envelope?" She asked bluntly. The seal was already opened.
Xi Shenghui glanced at her. "No. It was already like that when I picked it up from Mo Yiling."
That couldn't be right, Ying Yue thought. Mo Yiling particularly said that he hadn't opened the envelope and that it was sealed, and yet here it was. Her lips pursed. She shook her head and decided not to read too much on it.
With great care, she pulled out the document inside.
Her hands shook as she stared at it, seeing rows and columns of numbers that she didn't understand. Finally, she got to the bottom where an interpretation was indicated.
Combined Siblingship Index: 351
Ying Yue's lips trembled.
Based on testing results obtained from analyses of the DNA loci listed, the probability of full siblingship is 99.7%.
She blew out the breath that she didn't know she was holding and a slender hand went up to cover her mouth that was agape. Her eyes watered, and one by one, the tears started to fall.
Six years.
She spent six long years thinking Ying Shen was dead. And yet after all this time, he was alive and well, after all.
Xi Shenghui glanced at her in alarm. "Are you okay? What does it say?" He struggled to take out the white handkerchief in his pocket and offered it to her.
She took it willingly, of course. But that wasn't what she needed. More than anything, she wished that Fei Huangjin was there.
