She half-expected the men from the Dragon Club to come over knocking at the door. But then again, it was already pretty late at night. And ever since Fei Huangjin went off on a trip, she'd been sleeping earlier -- turning off the house lights right around this time.
Whoever had planned this seemed to know her schedule pretty well.
A chill swept through her, and for the first time in a long time, she felt uneasy. Her fingers quickly swiped through her phone to press on the call button beside Fei Huangjin's name.
Unusually, the call ended before it even began.
Ying Yue frowned, reverting to call Big Boss instead. The same thing happened. Was something wrong with the network service tonight?
The tingles on her hand grew stronger. No, she doubted it. Her phone signal was at its maximum.
She didn't have time to internally debate on what to do. Ying Yue ran to the walk-in closet and rifled through the cabinet which she and Fei Huangjin had converted into a small armory. She took two guns, strapped a knife, and hooked an earpiece, tapping it to connect to Mo Yiling.
There was a mild buzzing sound in her ear that quickly died out. She cursed under her breath. Even Mo Yiling couldn't be contacted right now. That means someone was definitely jamming the signal around the house or purposely disabling her device.
The sound of the telephone ringing pierced the air, like a shrill cry amidst the silence of the night. Ying Yue's head whipped towards the bedroom and her eyes narrowed. The hairs on her back stood on end, and she cocked her gun as she silently drifted towards the telephone beside the bed.
It rang four times before Ying Yue picked it up.
She didn't say anything, opting to listen intently on the other end to try and figure out who it was. There was the sound of breathing, and then after a few seconds, a chuckle rang in her ears.
"Chen Shen's-- or should I say, Ying Shen's-- sister is truly remarkable."
Her eyes widened in alarm.
"But now it's not only Ying Shen or Chen Shen, he seems to have added another name for himself… I believe he now goes by the name Song Yinan." The deep nasal voice chuckled again. He seemed to find her silence quite amusing. "It's a shame he has no memories of you."
Her grip on the phone tightened, and she had the urge to smash it to the ground out of pure frustration. "How did you know?"
"How did I know? Hahaha!" Wang Longwei guffawed, as if she was asking a stupid and ignorant question that he couldn't quite get over with. "Ahhh Ying Yue, you're a good spy -- I'll give you that. But you're too trusting, don't you think?"
Ying Yue's eyes dimmed. Her mind wandered to the broken seal of the DNA test result, how Mo Yiling said he'd left it sealed for her, and how Xi Shenghui said it was already opened. It was also Xi Shenghui who showed up unexpectedly a lot of times. And tonight -- he ran off with an excuse of an emergency at Juyan. Could it be him? It seemed almost difficult to believe. But she saw the signs; she should've taken them seriously and trusted her gut a long time ago.
Wang Longwei took a glance at Su Jianjun who was sitting across him. The other man nodded his head, silently telling him to proceed.
"You should've stayed with that Song Yinan longer tonight." He smirked.
Her jaw clenched in anticipation. "What do you mean?"
"Well, after your dinner with your long-lost brother, we decided to bring him in -- maybe jog his memory for a bit," he laughed.
Ying Yue's heart felt like it stopped at that moment. Her blood ran cold and her lips parted in both worry and panic. She had just reconciled with Ying Shen after all these years. She couldn't let the Jade Circle take him away again.
