Guan Ting walked behind him, his eyes travelling to the damages on the house incurred by the said "explosion." It wasn't as bad as he thought. From the way he saw it, only the master's bedroom was severely damaged. Other than the front door, the rest of the house was fine.
He frowned. If someone wanted to kill the master's wife, why not let the entire house explode to make sure she'd really die? Why only the bedroom? There had to be something more to this.
Fei Huangjin bristled at the silent reply of his men. Fear bubbled up inside him as the seconds ticked by. Where they too afraid to tell him what happened? "I SAID, WHERE. IS. MY. WIFE?"
At that moment, one of his men walked out from the house, clutching a note that was half burnt at the ends. He looked startled as he realized that their master was already standing outside, demanding the presence of his wife.
"Sir!" He briskly walked closer to where the master was and bowed low.
"Where is my wife?" Fei Huangjin growled.
"Sir," the man repeated. "The madame was not in the room when we arrived, sir. We've also searched the rest of the house. She wasn't hiding anywhere, either. However," he stuck out the half-burnt paper he was clutching for Fei Huangjin to see. "This note was found in the bedroom. It seems to have been written by the madame."
Fei Huangjin's eyes narrowed and he quickly grabbed the paper, scanning its contents.
Huangjin,
Ying Shen is alive and held captive by Wang Longwei. I have to do as he says before they kill him. Forgive me for the explosion. Come find me.
Love,
Ying Yue
His hands shook and he looked into the distance, crumpling the paper in his hand. He could still picture Ying Yue raising an eyebrow at him, her smiling, her enjoying the food she was eating, and her in his arms with that face she made when he made love to her.
His wife was running headfirst into danger, and he was a step too late. He shouldn't have left her here. He should've just brought her with him. He should've taken extra precautions to keep her out of harm's way. Maybe… just maybe… His jaw clenched out of fury and frustration.
"Guan Ting."
"Yes, boss?"
"Find every vehicle that had gone in and out of the Majestic Gardens within the last eight hours. Get surveillance on all of them, track them down wherever, and I want every man of ours mobilized to search all areas within a five-mile radius." There was a bitter taste in his mouth. He had expected to come home to her sleeping, and he wanted to surprise her with the set of pearls he had bought. But now, none of that seemed important.
Now, he just wanted her safe.
"Right away, boss." Guan Ting turned around and started shouting orders at everyone and making calls, and as if the men around Fei Huangjin started to wake up from their trance-like state, they started to move and run in all directions to do as they were told.
Come find me.
Fei Huangjin remained where he was, standing in the middle of it all, both hands fisted -- the half-burnt note from Ying Yue reduced to a crumpled ball at his side.
Come find me.
He pocketed the ball and reached for his phone. He hated to admit it, but no matter what they do, Juyan's surveillance technology was the best in the country. And to find his wife, he needed their help. But first, he had to know who the traitor in Juyan was.
Come find me.
He dialed Big Boss' number, the ringing sound putting him in slight agony, and the more he waited for the call to be picked up, the more he felt like a knife was slowly slicing through his insides. Until finally, the man on the other end picked up, putting a pause to his pain.
"CEO Fei... Is there anything I can do for you?"
