Her hands shook in anticipation, and then she got to work almost robotically.
She unplugged the manual hand dryer attached to the wall beside the door and started gnashing her teeth against the thick outer wire insulation, tearing at the rubber covering to expose the smaller red and black ones inside.
Perfect.
The red one represented a live wire, and the black one represented a neutral wire. She knew this much from her electronics classes back in high school. After all, she didn't top her class for nothing.
She started picking at the red wire with her nails, carefully exposing the copper lines inside. Calm down, Ying Yue. You can't do this with shaky hands.
"One more minute, girl!"
Her head whipped up in alarm. She hurriedly finished up what she was doing and then gently, she stuck the wire against the metal door knob. "I'll be out in a minute!" She yelled back.
There was only a grunt in reply.
Ying Yue bit her lower lip and plugged the hand dryer back. Then she ducked below it, leaning against the tiled cement wall, making sure no part of her was sticking towards the door. Her hand shot upward, reaching towards the button on the hand dryer. And then she waited.
Any second now. Come on, boys.
There was another set of harsh knocking. "Open the door now!"
A blank look was on Ying Yue's face, but if one happened to look into her eyes, there was the sharp stubbornness of the woman that she was. It held the glint of someone struggling for survival in a dark, cruel world. She whispered to no one in particular, "Three… two… one." And then her hand pressed the button on the hand dryer just as the man behind the door turned the metal knob.
"AAAARRGHHH!"
A current ran through from the electric outlet to the door knob and then towards the man holding on to it, and similar to any horror movie, he was caught in the middle of a scream and a groan, as he stiffened against the door before slumping onto his knees.
The sight of it was shocking as it was nerve-racking, and a commotion broke out among the men outside.
"Hey! B-7! What's wrong?"
"Don't you pull pranks on us, douchebag."
"What are you-- AAARGH!"
"Hey-- AAARGH!"
Gradually, Ying Yue's lips curved upward as she continued to press on the button of the hand dryer. If the man was still holding on to the door knob, anyone else who touched him would then get electrocuted, too. It didn't seem like they understood what was going on. "Idiots," she whispered.
"AAARGH!"
"WHAT THE-- AAARGH!"
Ying Yue kept pressing on the hand dryer button, the warm air blowing towards her like a reassuring pat on the head. Her hands only stilled when she realized that it was unusually quiet outside now.
How many men had groaned aloud in pain earlier? Was it four? Five? Regardless, the important thing was that she'd debilitated more than half of them. Which meant that out of the seven, there were only two or three of them that could put her at risk.
BANG!
She froze, her eyes drawn to the lone bullet hole at the middle of the door.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Ying Yue inched lower and closer against the wall, covering her face with her hands to shield herself from the shrapnel, hoping against all odds that they wouldn't think of aiming for the wall beside the door.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Her hand grabbed the toilet plunger nearby when the bullets ceased, and when the door was kicked open, she swung it hard on the infiltrating man's head much like a tennis racket hitting a ball. He yelped. She took his distraction as an opportunity to twist and take control of his arm, using it to point the gun he was holding behind him and shooting down the two other men squarely on the chest.
By then, however, the man with her had already recovered, and he circled his other arm around Ying Yue's neck to lock her into a choke hold.
"Mmmpppf!" Ying Yue and him struggled together for a while as she attempted to shake him off. However, it was of no use. He was bigger and stronger, and the more she struggled, the tighter he was squeezing her neck.
