Of all the places she could meet him…
Speaking of which, Juyan and the Dragon Club had still gained nothing from spying on him. He was their only clue to finding Song Yinan, but Su Jianjun was proving to be a dead end as the days passed.
Ying Yue steeled herself and flashed him a polite smile. "CEO Su, it's been a while."
"Indeed." The unmistakable smirk on his face gave away nothing about his thoughts. "Would you care for a cup of coffee?"
She gritted her teeth for a moment. It was tempting -- not because of the company, but because of what she could get out of it. If she asked where Song Yinan was, would he answer?
Su Jianjun saw her hesitation and tilted his head at her. "Come on, I won't bite."
Even if you would, I'd cut your head off before you could. When she assessed the situation, however, she couldn't deny that she was at a disadvantage. She was on her own inside the shop, while Su Jianjun had someone else with him. Furthermore, she doubted if this place had an emergency exit should she need to make a run for it. She glanced at the counter to check on her order, but the shopkeeper was still busy packing all fourteen boxes. Damn it, why did she have to order fourteen of them? She turned to him instead with a nod of the head. "Well I hope you don't mind."
"I don't mind if it's a pretty lady." He seemed to be enjoying the exchange, watching her like a hawk as Ying Yue sat across him with her back straight. There was only a tiny round table between them. "How have you been, Miss Ying? I heard you've resigned as Fei Huangjin's secretary. Are you working on something else these days?"
His voice was suggestive of something she couldn't quite put her finger on. Did he know she was running Juyan now? No, probably not -- Juyan hadn't let the outside world know about the changes within the agency, and she'd already pulled out any possible weeds in Juyan.
"I've been making well of my duties as Fei Huangjin's wife," she said softly. Ying Yue answered with a smile that men would go to war for. She had this dreamy look on her face that even Su Jianjun's secretary couldn't help admiring. The man's face turned red at the sight of it. "Should my husband allow it, you should come over for dinner with Song Yinan."
"Mmm." Su Jianjun's lips pulled back, but he didn't say anything more.
"How is COO Song, by the way?"
He was impressed with her acting. She made the question sound so normal that it would be impossible for him not to reply to that. Su Jianjun knew was bound to ask one way or another, but he expected her to throw a tantrum at him, not charm him like this. He cocked his head at him, pondering about it for a moment. "He's doing well. However, Yinan has filed for leave. I believe he's gone back to his father's estate? I'm not too sure, myself."
It was Ying Yue's turn to be impressed. He lied so fluidly that it almost sounded like the truth.
They basked in the silence and gazed at each other with knowing looks and overly-eager smiles. What a farce. She should've known she'd get nothing out of this.
Her eyes briefly flitted to his secretary. Well, maybe not nothing… "And who might this be, CEO Su?"
Su Jianjun's head turned to the man beside him and then back to Ying Yue. "My assistant, Miss Ying. He's a bit shy so he's not always with me."
Ying Yue doubted it. She was sure Su Jianjun kept him hidden as often as possible. She made a mental note to remember the man's face as accurately as she could so she could run a scan on him back in Juyan. Around five foot seven, brown hair, thin straight brows, prominent nose, thin lips, and a mole on his chin…
"Madam, your order's ready."
Ying Yue glanced at the counter at the waving shopkeeper and internally thanked the heavens for good timing. She stood up, straightening her dress. "Thank you for your time, CEO Su. I have to go now."
"No, it is I who should thank you, Miss Ying." His elbow was against the armrest and his long fingers were under his chin as he looked at her with a gleam in his eyes. When she'd finally left the shop, it was then that Su Jianjun shifted to a serious note. He waved at his assistant. "Have some people follow her. When Song Yinan is ready, have people forcefully take her."
"Understood."
