"Shadow fox, finally! Listen to me, get out of there right now!"
She was already half out of the fence when she heard the panic in his voice. "I'm already out. What's the problem?" She excitedly dragged herself out of the place with a smile, but after a few seconds, the smile disappeared as she realized that something must have happened since Xi Shenghui didn't respond. She stopped in her tracks, her face complicated. "I can hear you breathing. Why aren't you answering me?"
"…"
"Shenghui?" And then as if a matchstick had been lit in the dark, her eyes widened as a nagging suspicion came to light. "Huangjin? Where are you? Huangjin?"
Ying Yue felt her hands tingle again, and before she knew it, she was running to the spot where Fei Huangjin was supposed to be stationed, waiting for her. He wasn't answering through the earpiece. But that didn't mean something happened to him, right?
Right?
Her feet stopped at the edge of what was supposed to be Fei Huangjin's hiding spot. His camouflage coat was on the grass. His rifle was missing, but his backpack filled with ammunitions and other firearms was still there. Ying Yue could feel a prickling sensation in her chest begin to gnaw at her. She brought him here. She had put him in danger again.
Xi Shenghui sighed and closed his eyes. The sight of Ying Yue through their satellite feed, standing still with a blank look – as if she blamed herself and was unsure what to do, was both disheartening and painful, even to him. "I'm sorry…" He whispered. "I couldn't stop him; he went after you when the alarms went off. We've lost connection with him and his vitals have disappeared."
Her fists clenched on either side of her as she turned to the view of the facility – all its lights on and the alarm still blaring through the speakers. The sound of it was carried by the wind all the way to where she was.
Huangjin…
"Shadow fox, the best thing we can do now is for you to leave the area. We'll deploy the—"
"No."
Xi Shenghui flinched at her directness.
"I have to go back inside," she declared. "This must all have been a trap. They knew we were coming. There wasn't even anything much in the basement. They were leading me here. I'm the one they want."
"It's too dangerous to go back now, shadow fox."
"No." She I am the director of Juyan and I say that I have to go back. I can't let Huangjin get hurt again because of me. So if you're not going to help me, I'll throw off my earpiece right this instant. You can't stop me, Shenghui."
Of course, he already knew that. But… he also didn't want her to get hurt either. "But I promised Big Boss I'd protect you…" he pleaded.
Ying Yue closed her eyes. "I also have to protect my husband."
Xi Shenghui couldn't bring himself to oppose what she said. He'd known her for not very long; but he knew enough to know that nothing could shake her resolve. "Just… come back alive. Juyan needs you… And keep your earpiece on, please."
She breathed in and out. And when she opened her eyes again, they were dark and full of rage.

Fei Huangjin hissed in pain as the guards dumped him inside a room and locked him in it. Despite his futile attempts at putting pressure on the nasty wound, it was still furiously bleeding down his chest. His shirt and other equipment had been taken by the guards right after he'd been injured, and he was now reduced to his bare feet with only his pants as clothing.
How embarrassing.
He'd been to distracted trying to look for Ying Yue that he hadn't noticed the people who had spotted and followed him until one of them shot him.
F*ck. Why am I always getting shot these days?
