Ying Yue was still a bit dazed and groggy, and she struggled to sit up without some pain coursing through her abdomen. The lukewarm water that Fei Huangjin had offered to her felt like heaven to her lips, as if she hadn't had any in days.
Heaven… Thinking back, those dreams she had… Were those some sort of precursors to heaven or the afterlife? She had met her brother – who she longed to speak to again, Big Boss whom she'd always wanted to thank, and finally, Mo Yiling, who apologized to her in her dreams. She wasn't sure if she'd met their souls or if those were figments of her imagination, but at the very least, it felt good to talk to them again.
"How are you feeling?" Fei Huangjin asked cautiously, pulling her out of her thoughts.
She considered her answer carefully before answering, "A bit sleepy and I… ache a little all over." Now that she'd sipped some water, her voice wasn't as hoarse as it was earlier. However, her answer must have concerned Fei Huangjin, because he stood up suddenly and was about to call for someone if it weren't for the hand that pulled him back. "No, don't. It's not that bad."
He hesitated for a moment before sitting back on the side of the bed. "You need to get checked by Li Hsiung. You just woke up."
A nurse came in to record her vital signs and ask for any discomfort, to which she answered honestly. The nurse said that Dr. Li was rushing over and was due any minute now. Ying Yue just nodded her head, but the man in the room glared daggers at the messenger, as if he wanted to kill the person for the doctor's delay. With fear in her eyes, she scurried out quickly at that.
"Don't glare at people like that."
Fei Huangjin's face softened as he turned to her. "Like what?"
"Like you're about to murder them."
He scoffed, "I do not glare like that."
Ying Yue only replied with a smile on her face. Their hands were entwined together on the bed and his thumb was lightly caressing her. He felt an overwhelming amount of relief course through him at the thought that he was finally conversing with his wife, that she was responding to her touch, that she had opened her eyes and looked at him just like this right now. And damn, even with her pale lips, he wanted to kiss her so much.
"Lovebirds, I ask that you give me space." Li Hsiung drifted in with his stethoscope around his neck, looking pointedly at Fei Huangjin who gazed back at him bitterly.
Fei Huangjin complied, anyway, and pulled away from the bed to allow space for the doctor who took too long to arrive despite the copious amount of money he was paying him. "What took you so long?"
Ying Yue wanted to roll her eyes at her husband.
"Now, now, Huangjin," Li Hsiung said while examining Ying Yue. "Miss Ying is not the only patient we have here at the Dragon Club medical facility and I was in the middle of an operation on one of your men. Considering that I had to scrub out in the middle of the operation and leave instructions to the assisting surgeon, I'd say I arrived here pretty quick."
Fei Huangjin opened his mouth and wanted to say that he didn't care, but he caught sight of Ying Yue who frowned at him in displeasure. Ah, f*ck. He swallowed down the cruel words he was going to say and ran a hand through his hair instead.
"Thank you for the rush, Dr. Li," Ying Yue said politely.
"No need to thank me, young madame. I'm merely doing my job. If the patient is as wonderful and courteous as you are, it's more of a pleasure to serve you, really." The remark was meant as a jab at Fei Huangjin's rudeness, and it had its desired effect when he saw the man's face turn ugly at the corner of his eye. On the contrary, the young madame just chuckled lightly. The stark difference was so apparent, anyone could see it from a mile away.
