Yingjie nodded, and he placed down the book on the coffee table before heading off to the door. Despite his perpetually-expressionless face and cold personality, he had a soft heart for his mother, and often even accompanied her to Juyan. He seemed to be quietly interested in both the Dragon Club and Juyan, that even Fei Huangjin himself was curious about the boy's plans in the future.
"Daddy, let's go to mommy!" Huiyin exclaimed.
He nodded and picked her up, glancing at the book that his son had put down. His eyes narrowed then widened when he read the title – The Art of War by Sun Tzu.
Huh.
Ying Yue was greeted at the door by her son, Fei Yingjie, who had a small smile on his face when he saw her. "Mom, let me carry your bag for you."
She grinned broadly and handed over her bag, then leaned over to kiss him on the forehead, ruffling his hair while she was at it. He was quite tall for his age, and the top of his head was already up to her shoulders. "Sweetie, you're getting more handsome each day."
"That's because I inherited your good looks, mom."
This made Ying Yue laugh aloud. Her son wasn't even ten yet, but he already had a way with words. A few years from now, girls would surely be all over him. She surely wasn't excited for that.
They went inside and she soon spotted her daughter, Huiyin, who was carried by Huangjin. "Mommy!" She reached out her arms towards her, but Ying Yue didn't reciprocate. Huiyin was a little spoiled by both Huangjin and Yingjie, so it was her job as a mother to make sure the kid doesn't grow up into a brat. She turned her sharp eyes towards her husband, who just shrugged at her with a smile.
"Huiyin, I know what you did in school." Then she turned to Yingjie beside her. "And I know what you did for your sister."
Yingjie's ears turned red and he gave her a sheepish look. "I'm sorry, mom." He should've known his mother would know about it right away. She ran an intelligence agency, after all. He should've been more careful.
Huiyin pouted in reply. "But mommy, they were bullying me."
"There are better ways to deal with them than chasing them with your air gun and shooting them from behind. You even put a gash on the boy's cheek! Gosh, Huiyin, I didn't raise you to be careless and improper! I'm confiscating all your toy guns, and you won't have sweets for a week."
"Okay, mommy. I'm sorry." The little girl buried her face at Huangjin's neck, feeling very wronged. Huangjin didn't bother to interfere with his wife's discipline tactics. The last time he tried to defend the kids, Ying Yue didn't allow him to sleep with her on the same bed for weeks. Just thinking about that made him uneasy.
Ying Yue sighed at the dampened mood in the house. "If you both behave this month, your dad and I will take you to the amusement park."
This perked up Huiyin right away, as if she wasn't just scolded a moment ago. "Really? You mean it, mommy?"
She nodded.
The girl squealed and promised to be a good girl. Even Yingjie seemed to smile at his mother's words. And then the family of four went ahead to the dining room to eat together. Parenting wasn't easy, but Ying Yue was glad that Huangjin was a dedicated father, and they had two wonderful children together. Come to think of it, maybe they should add one more?
Ah, never mind. Their home was hectic enough with one child too mature for his age and a daughter who was too violent. Ying Yue wondered where that girl even got her violence from. Huangjin and herself weren't really that violent, right?
Right.
