Looking at her status, Lilah heaved a sigh of relief after confirming that she gained another level. Just three more levels to go and she will reach LVL 10.
These past few days, she had been getting stronger and her skills are improving. Her archery had also improved by a Grade and she earned the skill Craftsmanship after creating arrows and creating mini bone knives.
She also learned that Daemon's grades depend on the number of evolution a Daemon had undergone. If a Daemon has yet to evolve even once it is common if it evolves a total of one time it is Rare.
She had also learned that she can gain skills. Though she has yet to gain a single active skill have and not everything she does can be converted into skills so she is still looking at the situation as to what can be a skill or not.
But despite what she is learning, Lilah was still in the dark on how to increase the number of Daemons she has. She tried searching the pocketbook but nothing came up.
She spent half an hour looking and finally, she got the answer from the system itself.
[System: To increase your Daemon one must have the ability to tame a Daemon or get one in the Shop. Please note that one cannot have more Daemons than the limit. The limit will increase every ten levels.]
Simple and concise. She liked that.
Lilah head home, this time around she managed to sell three more Premas before heading to pick up the twins.
When she picked them up, Lilith and Lily seemed to be more depressed than the past days. There were also red marks on their necks and faint marks on their arms.
Normally, she would not stick her nose into it as she wants to let them handle it on their own and increase their strengths and adaptability as to not make them rely on her too much.
It is imperative for the twins to learn and become independent. It is unknown when she will die as she continues to hunt Daemons. She may have gained some powers through the system but she is not invincible.
She knows what major events that will take place in the near future but that it accounts for what may happen by accident. Even her interference may change the flow of the future, she is not so stupid to believe her actions will not cause a ripple on what is to come.
So, as Lilah observed her twin, she and stopped on her tracks. The twin turned to look at her and questioned what was wrong.
"Is something the matter, big sis?"
Lilah did not say anything for a long while, she began to contemplate what she should do and decided to shake her head and continue walking. She secretly turned her head and looked at the school her sisters were studying at.
[I will pay a quick visit tomorrow.]
The sun set and night came; their routine continued. The exchange of shifts was normal and when Lilah closed her eyes she had a familiar dream. It was when her mother was about to pass away, she held her hands tightly wishing for her mother to call her name even once, but the one she uttered last were the names of her sisters and her bastard of a father.
Even in death, she had no room for her, for a robot-like person who only knows how to act human, she is but an eyesore to her who she wishes to disappear and die.
She was her mother and when she breathed her last and her sisters cried, she smiled.
She opened her eyes soon after. It was time to change. She looked around, Lily was nowhere to be found. For a second her heart beat faster, and then she abruptly got up.
Moving to the door, she called out, "Lily, where are you?"
Her voice was still weak as she had not fully woken up. She was parched and seeing Lily was nowhere to be found she got out. And outside, there she found signs of struggles on the ground.
It was hard to see if it was any normal who observed, but Lilah's eyes were trained and when she observed the grounds there were scratches made from struggles. There were only a few of them, but they were there, her heartbeat a second faster once again.
Her brain began to turn faster than before and she looked for clues and found minute ones on the ground. So she lowered her body and observed it even more. Her eyes seemed to be bulging as she tried surveying every little detail, she ran across the empty lot trying to find what happened or what caused these marks.
She was frantic, more so than she was willing to admit. And finally, she managed to discern the location of where the trail leads. West, the place where the Black Hounds resides.
And with haste, she hurried and ran. She was running with all her might but found herself to be lagging behind so she opened her stats and placed everything she had on AGT to increase her speed from 30 it became 55 in a single jump.
Her speed increased exponentially and she dashed forward like an arrow.
She did not care about the implications this incident may bring. Her instincts were telling her this was the right call.
And so she rushed for her sister, she was run and run and continued to run some more. There was no more tracks to follow so she relied on her eyes; trying to sift through every information she may get.
And in her heightened sense state, she heard the growls of hungry beasts and some faint, but ever-present muffled cries of a child.
Her eyes widened as she changed her direction left, she ran and run and as she reached the area and caught sight of three Black Hounds tearing through the leg of Lily, Lilah's eyes turned red as her voice disappeared when she tried to let out a shout.
It was a soundless scream but that worked to her advantage, in front of her were [Black Hounds LVL 17 (orange)]; it should be a challenge, she should be worried, but she jumped in the fray without any hesitation.
And from above, she descended like a reaper.
Fwu!
"AwU~"
A Black Hound whined as it was silently and quickly stabbed by the neck using the bone knife she kept with her at all times.
Lilah was ten levels below, but as she did it so quickly, the Black Hound died shortly after twisting the mini bone knife.
[System: LVL 7 – > 9.]
[System: all stats raise by 2 pts.]
The knife was lodged deeply making it hard to be taken away. But she did not care about the mini bone knife and swiftly carried her sister son after slaying one of the Black Hounds and confusing the other two with sand and blood.
Lilah carried Lily with ease and started running for their lives. But closely behind her were Black Hounds who managed to recover quickly.
These Hounds were much more efficient in moving through these woods than Lilah herself. They were quickly getting closer to her.
Lilah did not even hesitate to once again pour her newly gained free points. Another 10 pts were poured to the AGT and her sprint became even faster than before.
Lilah slowly managed to create some distance between her and the Black Hounds. She caught sight of the Faerith trees and ran even faster.
She was pushing herself, and the Black Hounds were doing the same. But the Black Hounds would not let them get away so easily, and in a last-ditch effort to get the two preys, it activated one of its active skills, [Pounce].
It pounced at the sister pair but Lilah felt something was coming just before she was hit and managed to move to the side, but her left arm was scratched in the process.
She did not groan or anything like that, she looked forward and finally, she reached got passed the Faerith trees.
But even then she did not stop running. She wanted to bandage Lily before taking her to a hospital to get her patched up. But as she neared the area where their shack was built, he saw a man with one arm observing the blaze with a smile.
When the one-armed man noticed the presence on Lilah, his face changed and he panic. He covered his visage before running away.
Lilah dropped on the ground, she looked at the shack that was burning to the ground.
Lilah saw this and fell to her knees. She cried, but then she heard, "Big sis, Lily, where are you?!"
Lilah gained her spirit and like a spring she jumped up and without any hesitation, she jumped into the burning shack. Inside, it was very hot and suffocating, it was a small shack and it didn't take her a long time to find Lilith who was cowering on their bed.
She did not have the time to cry out as she hurriedly took her out of there braving through the fire. She covered for Lilith but when she got out, she still suffered some burns.
After saving Lilith, Lilah did not have the leisure to watch their former home burn down. She freed Lily who had passed out from her bindings and then carried the twins to the hospital where they were taken to an emergency room.
In the waiting area, Lilah had her eyes opened devoid of emotions.
