After a few tries, we got the stone spike out the hole. We lucked out on the last throw as it got stuck in something right away. So we started climbing. I didn't have any problems, but Felix kept gagging as he climbed behind me. I was curious why, but still pissed at him. So those warred for a while. Curiosity won.

"What's wrong with you?" I asked, pausing in my climb.

"I have my hand wrapped in my own intestines, using them to escape a hole in the ground. Pardon me for being a little grossed out by that." He sounded rather snippy.

"Oh, okay. That makes sense," I resumed my climb.

It took maybe 10 minute to climb to the top. Before fully exiting, a thought occurred to me. "Hey, If the sun is out, are we going to get burned?"

"Not really. While the sun is damaging, it's not instant death. Though vampires generally can't stay awake while the sun is out as well. I figure, since we're both wide awake the sun is not out. Now, can we PLEASE get out of here."

"Sure." I pulled myself out of the hole and blinked. On one side there was a tall brick wall, with coiled razor-wire lining the top. On the other, a very bland and spartan building with thick cement walls and narrow windows. What really caught my attention was right in front of me.

A long list of notifications appeared in the middle of my vision.

"Huh, I guess I might have a name." I said down the hole to Felix.

"Great, now move so I can get out? You tell me about it after I wash my hands," he shuddered slightly as he finished talking.

"Fine," I stepped back so he could climb out. "By the way, would you happen to know who a Dr. Dunlane is? And why he might want me dead?"

"Starting to remember, eh? And no clue. Not even sure how long I was down there. Though I can think of a reason or two that someone might want you dead. What did you remember?"

"Nothing, but as soon as I got out of the hole a bunch floating words popped up. The first one is bright red. The rest are all blue. Any idea what they are?" I glanced up at him. Huh, he's taller than I thought.

"More evidence you're completely insane?" He looked around, trying to get his bearings, "Where are we? Do you know what year it is?"

"Do I look like I know the answers to any questions? Let me ask the floating words. Um, Mr. System, what year is it?"

[System Notification: Date request acknowledged. System Update in progress. Please wait.]

"Oh, sorry for interrupting Mr. System."

[System Notification: Apology notification acknowledged. Use not found. System Update in progress. Please wait.]

"Understood. Apparently Mr. System is updating. So we'll have to wait to ask."

"Huh. Anyway, you said you might have a name?"

"Yep," I smiled at the fact I now have a name. It's such a simple thing, but so powerful.

"And what would that be?"

"Oh! I Patient Vix."

"Uh... How but just Vix. The word patient isn't really a name. More of a title, and not a good one. Though it might explain a few things, when taken with the building next to us."

"Yeah, I was wondering where we were. Do you remember?"

He just stared at me for a bit. What a weirdo. "Well, before I was over throne this was the capital of my kingdom, as small as it may have been."

"Oh? Were you a king?"

"Almost. I managed to rule for a full 6 hours. Then what I was was discovered, and they threw me down there. That was in 1613."

"According to Mr. System, I was to be terminated on 18/13/3011. So it's some time after that."

"Wait, 13? There's only 12 months in the year."

"Maybe it changed? 1400 years is a long time."

"Yeah, but what else has changed. That's what's really worrying me," he looked around trying to find something. "That 'Mr. System' tell you anything else?"

"I told you, he's updating!"

"And how long will that take?"

"Huh, I didn't ask. Hey Mr. System, how long will your update take?"

"OKAY! I get it! A little less than 2 hours."

"So, what now? We just sit around for two hours?"

"Well, we could check out the weird and creepy building. Or we could look for an exit in the wall. Which do you want?"
