Perseus sat on a table in a inn and looked at Jack who was brightly skipping down to Perseus and looking at Perseus with a bright and fresh look in his eye.
They had just gotten back from finishing a few quests at the guild but the glee of joining the guild was still fresh in Jack's mind. Perseus looked at Jack straight in the eye.
"Jack, I want you to infiltrate the reapers and become the head honcho"
Jack nodded his head fervently and answered
"Whatever you say, master, but just how am in going to do it?"
Perseus answered with his hands propped up on the table covering his mouth
"you said that anyone in the reaper gang can challenge a higher ranked person in a battle and if they win they get the rank right?"
Jack nodded and answered again
"mhm yes, but it rarely happens anymore now it's mostly from regular promotions by the top leaders"
Perseus started to think some more. He asked Jack again
"that tattoo you have on your back, that means your a member of the reapers right?"
Jack gave a small laugh and turned around and lifted his small back to show Perseus
It was bloody tattoo figuratively and literally, whoever made the tattoo was either inexperienced or did it maliciously since Perseus could still see scars and bloody marks on Jack's back. The skull and the pile of bodies the tattoo depicted didn't help the image either.
Jack started talking
"yes while I have this tattoo on I can pass as a member, the lowest ranking one, but a member none the less."
Perseus interrupted Jack again
"tell me about the ranks the reapers have"
"yes, there are four ranks. Henchmen, Dealer, Enforcer, and the Leader. The henchmen are the backbone and are the lowest-ranked they just do whatever the higher ranked people tell them to do. The Dealers are the weapon's dealers, drug dealers etc.. they aren't high ranked but they have some command over the henchmen. The Enforcer is the most loyal to the Leader of the gang and enforces anything the leader wants, they are usually the strongest in the gang. And finally the leader of the gang."
Jack finished his explanation with a satisfied face. Perseus was surprised that Jack had such an accurate grasp on the gang's inner workings for a 10-year-old. But what Jack didn't know was that there was a 5th rank. According to the book Jason and Boops sent to him a bit before about the underworld of the city of Herdita. The last rank was called joker they were the informants and acted as the spies of the group, they could be a high ranked enforcer of common street henchmen. But the information on the jokers was limited and Perseus didn't want to assume everything the book and Jack said was right. He needed to double-check his information or maybe even triple check.
Heck, perhaps Jack was actually a joker the entire time. Well actually according to Boops's loyalty subsystem that wasn't the case, but still Perseus was wary of him.
Perseus motioned to Jack and the two walked out of the inn. Perseus looked around, he wanted to figure out the average level of a thug and a dealer so he could understand how strong Jack needed to be to successfully fight.
Sadly he couldn't ask Jack directly as the NPCs didn't have the concept of levels. They probably had their own way of ranking strength but Perseus didn't have time for that.
Persues scanned almost everyone in his vicinity as he walked down the road. Some of the people, especially the dudes were confused as to why the handsome golden-haired boy was staring at them with such an intense stare.
Persues sighed to himself, he couldn't find anyone who was part of a gang. So he could only guess. The two walked to the guild again. Even though they had just finished a herb gathering quest. They were going back into the forest to grind, so they might as well finish another quest while doing it. Heck currently they were dirt poor after paying for the guild.
Perseus pushed the doors open and walked in. Heads turned to them and then quickly turned back in disinterest. They might have been interested in the youngest guild master in Herdita at first, but now after witnessing him only doing herb gather quests they all lost interest.
Perseus looked at the guild recruitment poster he had put up. The little papers that could be ripped off that had contact information and stuff were all still there. Perseus had to admit, seeing that was kinda depressing.
He walked up to the guild receptionist that he had previously swindled to make the guild.
She saw Perseus approach here empty counter and she nodded to Perseus with a smile
"How can i help you Perseus"
Persues walked up and went straight to the point
"Are there any quests that have anything to do with the forest outside the north entrance?"
The receptionist started to flip through a binder that was next to her. She started to list out a few
"hmm there are 30 herb gather quests, 10 extermination quests, 5 escort quests, and 1 for searching for a lost relic that may or may not be in this forest."
Perseus went into deep thought and then said
"ill take all of the extermination quests and all of the herb gathering quests"
The receptionist looked at Perseus with an inquisitive look.
"Look Perseus I know that you were able to do 10 herb gather quests in one time, but 40 quests? and half of those are exterminating quests. I get that you want to build a reputation but I don't think you can do this."
Perseus looked at the receptionist
"try me b.. I mean miss"
The receptionist threw her hands in the air in annoyance.
"fine, I tried to warn you multiple times already"
Perseus and Jack walked away ignoring the pissed off receptionist who was yelling at them as they walked away about how they would regret it.
Perseus looked at the quests that he had just gotten. The herb quests were quite easy. All that Perseus needed to do was have Boops analyze a field and boom, all that he needed to do was pick them up. The monster extermination quests might be harder, but they were going to grind so they were already going to kill those monsters anyway might as well get some money along the way.
Persues couldn't get used to the fact that he could see the sea from the guild, which was situated close to the ocean for emergencies like sea monster attacks. And then he could turn to the north entrance and a massive forest would be in front of his eyes.
They excited the city entrance flashing their adventures guild card to the guard and walked off into the forest.
The guard watched the two boys walk off, he looked at them fondly thinking about the times when he did that with his friends. But the golden-haired boy kept on going off the path and picking up stuff. Strange it seemed random the moments when the golden-haired boy went off the path but if the guard had better eyesight he would have spotted him picking up a rare herb that cost more then his salary for the week. Maybe it was better that he couldn't see so well he probably would have coughed up blood or something.
On the journey up to the forest, Perseus had already completed 4 of the herb gathering quests. He grinned and mocked the receptionist lady in his head
"you'll regret it she said, it's going to be impossible she said. Ha, she better give my master allot of points when I drop the load of herbs in front of her face."
Jason then shuffled through the hunting quests.
"hmmm rabbits, goblins, some kobolds, and horned rabbits, heh they all are basically repeating themselves, besides shouldn't there be wolves, my master met a pack and tamed one so there should be more nearby."
Perseus turned to Jack who was diligently walked up with Perseus keeping up at his pace and watching out for any animals and herbs that they needed.
"Hey Jack, do wolves appear in this forest?"
Jack answered quickly
"yes master, wait, no ummm kinda master, they used to be a big problem I saw adventures rally to defeat them multiple times but then they suddenly disappeared, I remember hearing some adventures talking about it"
Perseus asked again
"like just disappeared, no corpses?"
"yes master, completely disappeared maybe the pack left for somewhere else or something"
Perseus thought about that, he thought about stuff allot, didn't he? Well, that was his character to think over things over and over again to make sure they were safe. He was probably going to send Boops the information. It seemed like it was an interesting piece of information.
