Jason sat around a campfire along with the Blue 2 team and the wolves. The campfire was the only source of light in the dark forest. And the entire team seemed to be on edge thinking that the altered goblins would jump in and attack them at any time.
Thankfully in the last battle, there were no casualties mostly thanks to Colby who tanked most of the altered goblins projectiles. The wolves were experts in dealing with goblins and though they were different from regular goblins, they were still goblins with similar habits and bodies.
They all sat down around the campfire, Jason was making food. While the rest tried to rest up. Having a fire or any source of light was extremely dangerous in the forest. It was like lighting a beacon in the forest screaming that they were there.
Jason asked multiple times to make sure that, the commander ranked monster was the only one in the forest and Charlie responded that if there was a higher-ranked one the city would probably have fallen already.
So Jason sat there wondering if he should be worried or not care about the campfire.
He was tasked to make food, which he happily did since he got points of gratefulness from the wolves and the rose knights and exp for his cooking skill.
So Jason grabbed some rabbit meat and started to cook it for the entire group. He accidentally burned a piece of meat and put on the side. He didn't want to give it to anyone so he just put it on the ground.
At this point, he was hyper-cautious of his surroundings so he couldn't cook as well as he did before. The rest of the group was also cautious but with the wolves, they were all relatively relaxed compared to Jason how was looking at the map the entire time he was cooking the food.
Charlie and Ethan sat together, and Jason could hear them talking a bit.
Ethan looked at Charlie and asked in an inquisitive manner
"so how do you expect us to find this commander ranked monster and how do you expect us to defeat it?"
Charlie smilled and pointed towards Jason.
"goblins love meat, especially human flesh but whatever meat Arch is cooking should work"
Jason looked at them and said in a confused voice
"wait, you guys are using me as bait?"
Charlie smiled and patted his shoulder
"no, we are using you as a tracker, besides one of the wolves would probably smell them coming we just need to locate them first."
Jason was pretty worried and scared he really hated dark atmospheres like the pitch-black forest they were in currently and knowing that the food that he was making was attracting all of the creatures to him made him sweat bullets.
Jason was about to complain but at that moment Jeffery stood up and gave a short bark.
The entire group stood and readied their weapons. The wolves made a defensive circle and the rose knight trainees started to get into a formation with Mark and Charlie in the back and Colby Lyle and Ethan in the front.
Jason also stood up holding up the skewer of rabbit meat and carefully stored it into his inventory for later.
From the depths of the forest, a large multitude of glowing eyes opened and moved towards them.
In the back was the low growling of their leader. The commander ranked monster towered over the rest of the altered goblins as they all swarmed towards where Jason and the rest of the group was.
Some swung on trees and others ran on the ground climbing over each other to get to where that delicious smell of meat was.
Usually, the sheer amount of numbers the altered goblins had would be more than enough to swarm over a group the size of Jasons. But the people in Jason's team were very special.
Lyle was raised as a fighter, Colby was a rose knight commanders younger brother which spoke for itself. Ethan and Mark were twins who had been raised in the adventures life and Charlie, well Jason had no idea what Charlie's back story was but it definitely was something intense to get him so strong and knowledgeable.
Jason also had the wolves on his side, beasts who came from a fallen clan and had lived on the run for years. They had been fighting and living in the forest their entire lives, they had been fighting against swarms of goblins since the beginning this was nothing different to them.
The swarm of altered goblins rushed and clawed over to where the group has set up camp.
They broke through the small barriers of bush and into the clearing under the trees. The group had cleaned up the ground as best as they could and in the middle of the ground was a pit that was still on fire, it was still burning and on the side of the campfire was a charred piece of rabbit that Jason had recently burned.
The altered goblins stopped and looked around confused as to why the ferocious humans were not there.
The altered goblins formed a circle around the burned rabbit meat drolling and munching on air, imagining themselves eating it.
But none of them approached the food, they just looked at it from a distance. Heavy steps came from the back of the swarm of the and the swarm of altered goblins parted in two.
The commander ranked monster stepped up, it was a goblin but it stood heads taller than the other altered goblins.
It was huge and muscular, at least from what Jason could see. Its skin was dark and its eyes also gave off an eerie yellow light. It looked more like an orc than a goblin as it lumbered towards the piece of meat.
An altered goblin seemed to have been overtaken with the urge to eat and dived towards the piece of meat.
The commander ranked monster saw the altered goblin saw the goblin rush towards the piece of meat and raised its fist up and slammed down on the goblin the punch carried into the ground and gave it a large impact that left an imprint on it.
The commander ranked monster raised its fist back up, and on the ground illuminated by the slowly dying campfire's light. Jason saw the remains of that goblin seep into the cracks that the commander ranked monster made with his punch.
Jason looked at the remains of the goblin and thought about what would have happened if they were still sitting at the campsite.
They were currently right above the crowd of altered goblins.
Yup Jason had suggested that they surprise them by climbing on the trees. Thankfully no goblin was climbing near them because they were right underneath the piece of meat. Which would have probably provoked the commander ranked goblin.
It had taken Jason a lot of effort to help the rose knight trainees up, surprisingly the wolves were agile enough to climb the trees with ease. Probably a skill they picked up after a long time in the forest.
Charlie and the rest of the group, watched the commander ranked monster happily eat the rabbit meat.
Jason wasn't the best at fighting, he had been thrown into the campaign and everything, but he did know that the best chance they had was to attack the commander ranked monster while it was busy eating.
Jason looked back at the blue 2 teams to tell them that. But then realized that they had disappeared.
He looked back down to see them fallen down with their weapons glinting in the campfire's weak light.
The wolves were dashing down the near-vertical tree trunks and leaping off of them with their fangs and claws open.
Jason looked at all of the people moving with a stunned expression on his face. That was when he heard Boops shout at him
"What are you doing?! Go and beat their (*&^s'
Jason managed to snap back into reality with Boops' help and he unsheathed his iron sword and ran down the trunk of the trees.
Once he got close enough he jumped off the trunk and fell directly towards where the commander ranked monster was.
Jason activated all of the skills that he could use
(precise strike)
(poison blade)
Jason's blade glowed cyan and dug into the commander ranked goblin.
Jason heard Lyle's voice behind him
"oh we're taking the commander first, I guess"
And Lyle's black and red runish sword joined Jason and stabbed into where commanders knees were.
Mark jumped on top of the commander's head with a flaming sword and stuck down.
Ethan stabbed into the other knee and Charlie decided to stab his blue sword that was covered in light green energy into the commander's chest.
Colby stood there silently making sure none of the goblins would do anything. Thankfully they didn't have enough time to react to the hidden assailants falling down on the goblin commander.
And the goblin commander collapsed from its busted knee joints, and heavy brain and heart injury.
Charlie stood on top of the fallen goblin commander and said out loud
"huh, that was easier then I thought it would be"
