Magnus and the taller, bulkier, and older Deutsche man went at it in a bout of fisticuffs. Magnus landed the first blow, a punch to the gut. Rather than hurting the Deutsche man, it just hurt his fist.
The man laughed, and struck Magnus with a right hook. The power behind the blow was more intense than the man's presence, but Magnus would not give up. He could not give up! The end of the war was near, and he could not be knocked out and lose the war!
The force behind the blow would have knocked any human unconscious, but Magnus was an Administrator. Rather than being knocked unconcious, it just hurt insanely bad.
The punch rippled Magnus' face as it made contact and moved, moving his face too. The hit was so strong that it snapped Magnus' lower jaw in twain.
Being knocked back about five feet, Magnus let his jaw heal while he strategized as the big, burly man fast approached. There was no escape, so he dodged left, and ran.
"Hey, Amicus, do you think I have any chance of winning this fight?", Magnus probed into the depths of his mind.
The answer came back as, "No", but was changed to, "Yes", as shooting was heard from outside the government building.
Magnus ran around circles, hoping his stamina was good enough to out last his opponent. His plan of action now that distant gunfire sounded was to last until UPC forces got to the building.
Magnus ran behind a table which no one was sitting at. He was cornered, but had two escape routes as the grey-haired man caught up with Magnus.
He stepped left, and the bulky man stepped the same way, but suddenly, Magnus changed his choice to the right, and darted, escaping the clutches of the Deutsche officer.
The officer was irate. He thought this would have been a quick and simple thing to do, but no. His killer blow didn't kill, and he was being evaded by such a pipsqueak!
The anger overtook this usually calm man, and the government workers took notice of this. The workers were worried for Magnus.
They had seen the same situation before. Someone demands something of the Field Marshal, and he challenges them to a fist fight. If it's someone he likes, the Field Marshal will just give the other person a good smack. If it's someone he doesn't like, he has gone as far as killing them.
The Field Marshal picked up the metal table Magnus had just ran out from behind like a little mouse and the big Deutsche man threw it at the little scampering mouse that angered him so.
Magnus didn't know that this was going on, but he evaded it by chance, the table flying over his head, having ducked down because there were bullets flying in through the windows.
These bullets struck the Field Marshal, and he fell, but didn't die. The UPC soldiers who were there to break the fight up and get a surrender couldn't kill him, because Schmitler had requested him for negotiations. A soldier walked in the building and helped Magnus get up as seven soldiers carried the unconscious and wounded Field Marshal to a truck.
They left the government building, and went into the streets. Outside the building, there was a line of grey uniform-wearing Deutsche soldiers on their knees with their hands beind their heads.
Getting into the back of a truck, Magnus was debreifed on the situation. Apparently, the entire time he was asleep, the troops were making their way into Birlin, and if Magnus had waited around half an hour, he would have been rescued by UPC soldiers who marched through the town, unharmed because a truce had been signed to negotiate the surrender.
The diplomats had gone directly to Schmitler's bunker rather than to the government building in Birlin, so they were still talking to the Deutsche General-In-Chief when the Deutsche attacked. The UPC soldiers successfully fended off the Deutsche assault, as they were attacked by a couple of drunk Birliners who knew how to make Molotov cocktails while intoxicated.
Around an hour and ten minutes after that, the diplomats returned with Schmitler and his board of advisers who were requesting the Field Marshal, who was probably asleep. Thus, they decided to march through the city in the morning, with Schmitler in tow as he was going to keep the Deutsche soldiers from attacking the UPC soldiers.
Thus were the events as Magnus peacefully slept in the holding cell in Birlin. Ultimately, Magnus' attempts had caused more loss of life, but he was alone and with no way to know, and also technically helped capture the Field Marshal.
When they got back outside the walls of the city, the General was standing there the welcome his Magnus back from the dead.
"Magnus, my boy! You are back! Well, let's go, we have to get you on a boat!"
"Boat?!", asked Magnus, fully surprised, wrapped in a blanket given to him as a treatment for shock.
"Yes, boat! We have to go to the continent of Ashiya! You need to finish this war!", the General shouted for all to hear.
It was not right, Magnus thought, to deprive a soldier from his leave. So he argued with the General, saying, "What about my leave? Can't I go home?"
"No! Of course not!", the General replied, "Leave is for soldiers who complete their mission. You, my boy, have not yet completed your mission. You agreed to end the war, not just the war in Europa, remember?"
Magnus thought back. He closed his eyes to focus. All of a sudden, he was surrounded by images in the darkness of his imagination. Then, he was floating, viewing the memory like a vision from when he was asleep, but still awake.
Magnus saw himself say, "Wow, Administrators are so powerful... So, what are you going to have me do?"
Magnus floated up to the General, floating right above his desk. He watching the lips of the high-ranking officer of the UPC Army move, as he said, "I need you to win the war..."
Before the General in his memories could continue, the General in the material world said, "Magnus?", pulling Magnus' eyelids open and his attention to what was in front of him.
Seeing Magnus' eyes open, the General continued, "Magnus, now that you have more mental capacity, things are going to change, just like your remembering process. That's how an Administrator remembers, by seeing the environment and the people again. Things are transitioning in you from human to Administrator, so be wary of sudden change. Ask Amicus for more details later, we have a boat to catch!"
The General waved to Schmitler, who waved back, and started walking to a car. Magnus, realizing he had no other choice, followed the higher ranking man to the car, and got in the back as the General got in shotgun.
Thinking he would be back home to see his family and marry his fiancee, Magnus was now off to the other side of the world to fight a whole different people. Magnus' thought turned from visiting and marriage to his step-father. What was wrong there? Magnus would just have to ask him. Magnus kept thinking and eventually nodded off, as one usually does on long car drives, as they reached the harbor on the coast of a newly liberated Gaul.
