Let's Follow Him

"Where are we going?"

Her question only added to the troubles of the man who was sent to get her. Among the chaos which was breaking out in other areas of the warehouse, he was instructed by his Boss to get the girl out safely. Looking at her troubled state he wondered if he could do the job or not.

"That's none of your business." He let out a displeased groan as his eyes lingered over her shivering figure. "We have to leave, right now." He instructed her as he took a step closer to her. Reaching down, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her up.

His forceful movements were powerful enough to pull the girl's figure up in one swift movement. He was ordered not to use too much force while bringing her to the contact point. But looking at her state, he doubted that she would just listen to him like usual and follow him out.

"I don't want to go with you." She whimpered out. It was the first time that she had voiced her protest before him since the day she was brought to the warehouse.

She knew that if she let them have things their way, she would most probably end up in another abandoned building. The words of the other man whom she had met earlier in the day, echoed through her mind. They only added to her misery.

The loud bangs were enough for her weak soul to get scared for her life. The shattering sounds of bullets being fired in the background only added to her dejectful thoughts. It wasn't hard for her to guess that whatever they planned to do with her, was only being pushed up.

"Where are you taking me?" She let out a whimpering cry as she tugged at her own hand, trying to get it out of his hold. But all of it was in vain. How could she, a sixteen-year-old girl, be a match for a man who seemed to be in his late twenties.

"You don't get to ask any questions." He replied to her with a scowl. Her continuous pestering about an answer was only adding more to his work. His Boss would have his head on a silver platter if something happened to the girl.

They knew that the attack on them was related to their illegal activities in the city. They went for the only thing which wasn't given a green light by either the government or their only rival in the city who ruled the underworld. But never did they think that they'd actually be attacked with their current backing.

It seemed like they were taking their rivals lightly. Despite knowing about their plans in advance, they were close to losing. But to them, what mattered the most at the time was to get the girl out of there safely. They could care less about the other children. If they managed to pull off the given task, they might be able to get in the good books of their backer and would easily start anew with much more power.

"Let's go now." He came out of his stupor and muttered out before he began to tig at her arm. It didn't require him to use much force to drag her frail figure out of the room while she kept whimpering.

"Stop getting in my way." Blake let out an annoyed remark when he saw Jeffery walking a step ahead of him. He knew that he meant to protect him, but there was no need for him to get in his way. He was after all, wearing a bulletproof vest. Even a direct shot wouldn't be able to hurt him.

"I am just doing my job." Jeffery replied to him as his eyes moved around to locate any potential source of harm. He wasn't bothered by Blake's constant nagging. What was important to him was to make sure that Blake didn't end up getting hurt in the process.

The sound of rushing steps entered their ears which forced them to put a stop to their squabble.

"What's that?" Blake mumbled softly under his breath as he threw a quizzical look in Jeffery's direction who had his back facing towards him

With their light steps and stealthy movements, the two of them made their way around the corner into the next hallway. Following the sound of footsteps, they found themselves standing next to a staircase which was opening into a hall. The whole place was shrouded with darkness with the peace being shattered by occasional gun shots.

Blake was about to take a step closer to the stairs when his eyes landed on the two figures which were coming down the stairs. More specifically, it was a man who was descending the stairs at a fast pace and tugging at the arm of a girl, almost dragging her frail figure with him.

The sight forced Blake to take a step back into the shadows so that the man wouldn't be able to spot him. Jeffery followed his suite and took a couple of steps back.

"What do you make of this?" Jeffery spoke up once the man was no longer in his line of sight.

"Let's follow him." Blake muttered under his breath as he stepped forward. He wasn't worried about how his men would proceed with the rest of the mission. He knew that they were more than capable of taking care of some goons. What he needed was to get his hands on their Boss, and he had a feeling that the man would lead him there.

Moreover, for some reason he wasn't able to blink the trembling figure of the girl who was being taken to somewhere else. And it piqued his interest. Why only her? They should have taken every child away if they were worried about losing their source of income. But what was the point of taking one girl away.

There was only one way to figure out the why, and it was to follow the man out. With those thoughts running through his mind, he started to head towards the hall while keeping his steps light.
