Fraternal Twins (1)

Realizing that all eyes were now focused on her, Lillian could only shrunk herself in her spot. She could tell that the question was directed at her, but she wanted to avoid it for as long as she could. Running away was never an option, she knew it too well.

She tried her best to use the old butler's tall, yet slender frame as her shield, but it was of no use. The old man had willingly stepped to the side, so that he was completely out of Katherine's line of sight.

"My, my. You are a cute one." Katherine beamed up with joy as she eyed Lillian up and down, while Lillian continued to stand like a statue in her spot.

For some reason, she didn't enjoy the scrutinizing gaze of the lady before her. She felt like she was being judged for some competition. Little did she know that she had somehow managed to pique up Katherine's interest, who otherwise didn't pay any attention to the people around her.

"How old is she?" Katherine spoke up once again, but this time her words were directed at Blake. "Isn't she too young for you?" She furrowed her brows as she pondered over it, giving Lillian another look. "Dude, is she even legal?" Her eyebrows shot up as he questioned Blake once again.

"What!" Blake, who had only realized where Katherine's train of thoughts were going, gave her a puzzled look. "Have you lost your mind!" His words were rather more of a statement than a question. He, of all the people, knew better about her craziness.

"She is sixteen. Will you put a leash on your tongue?" He added after seeing the horrified look on Lillian's face. She might have a huge chunk of her memory missing, but she was no child. She could easily understand what was going around her, and Blake was no fool to turn a blind eye to it.

"Oh!" Katherine first narrowed her eyes down at Lillian's face before bobbing her head up and down. "No wonder she looked young. She is young." She pursed her lips together.

"Duh!" Blake muttered lightly as he continued to dab the cotton swab over the small gash.

"Can you please hurry up? I have to leave for the mansion, and there's a ton of unpacking that I need to go through with." Katherine complained about his careful actions.

"Okay." Frustrated with her continuous complaints, he muttered out and pressed the small swab against her index finger without holding back his strength.

"Owww!" A loud yell echoed through the hall which was followed by a hiss as Katherine jumped up from her spot. She ended up bumping into Lillian who almost tumbled down to the floor if it wasn't for Blake's fast reflexes.

Without wasting a single second he jumped on his feet and grabbed Lillian's shoulders with his one hand while the other one kept holding on to the swab.

"Careful with your steps, little one." He mumbled softly before throwing a glare or two in Katherine's direction who was staring back at them with her eyes wide open.

"Have you lost your mind? Bumping into our guest on her first day here, and toppling her down. Good going." He rolled his eyes at her before shifting his attention back to the small figure who was still in shock.

"Are you okay, Lillian?" He asked her, his voice filled with concern. He didn't want her to have a bad experience on her first day here. Especially when she was supposed to spend the next couple of years at the base.

"I am fine. Thank you." Lillian, who had kept her mouth shut since she approached them, finally spoke up in a meek voice which Blake managed to catch with much difficulty. She moved her eyes around and found herself leaning back with one thing stopping her from ending on the floor, Blake's arm.

Since Blake was only supporting her from the side, she was in a really awkward position. She could neither stand on her own, nor could she move always from his support.

"Let me help you." Katherine spoke up after seeing the puzzled look on her face. She was more than guilty of putting her in her current state. The least she could do was to figure out a way to help her.

Seconds later,

Katherine was standing next to an angry Blake, who was standing like a tall wall in between the two young ladies, making sure that Lillian was way out of Katherine's reach. Meanwhile, the old butler was just standing near the other end of the table, seemingly unaffected by the whole ordeal.

"I am sorry." Katherine spoke up, apologizing to her. She had her head hanging low. She was feeling too guilty for not being able to pay more attention to her surroundings. Blake was right. She could have easily hurt the frail little girl.

"It's fine. I am not even hurt. You shouldn't be apologizing to me at all." Lillian shook her head in response. There was a small smile clinging to her naturally pink lips.

"I know, but Blake was right. I should have been careful. So, I am sorry." Katherine replied to her as she looked up at her and gave her a bright smile which showed off her pearly white teeth.

"Let me introduce you two first." Blake interrupted them as he heaved out a sigh. "Lillian, meet Katherine. She is my clumsy sister." He added politely as he tried his best to keep her anger in check. He still had to give Katherine a lecture about the mess she had caused in the kitchen, and the gash on her finger.

"Katherine, meet Lillian." He added without even looking at her. He just kept his eyes on the table ahead throughout the boring introduction. It helped him in keeping his ire in check.

'Sister! No wonder they looked somewhat similar.' Lillian thought to herself, but decided to keep her mouth shut about it. She still found it weird to poke her nose into matters which didn't concern herself even when she was curious about other things.

"Nice introduction, bro." Katherine didn't forget to add in sarcastically as she tried to look past him. "You know there is one thing which he forgot to mention. We are twins. Fraternal twins if we are being specific." She added gleefully, leaving the other girl in shock.
